i keep buying them and try everything and they never last beyond a few days. my latest one has been planted outside i thought i would try a different angle. Has anyone been able to keep them alive??

No! Mine always die too!

Re pot them into a slightly larger pot, with some decent compost.

Water them with 3 drops of baby bio per litre of water.

Keeps supermarket herbs going for 6/8 weeks.

Not a coriander one, but I've had about six months out of a supermarket basil before. Basil likes a lot of water.

Coriander is a short term herb. It goes to seed so quickly. Basil plants I can keep going for weeks

Coriander's life cycle is short. Grow, flower, seed, die. They sell them in the supermarket ready to use the leaf but hurry up or the plant will move on!

aaaah that's where I'm going wrong then! basil works though, im good with basil.

ah that makes sense. i keep the basil going fine. just wish i could have a coriander plan because i use it so much. going to try the planting out with baby bio.

I buy it on the day i want to use it and then finely chop the rest of the plant and whack it in the freezer.

do you freeze it in oil quiz or just on its own?

those pots are just for storage. keeps herbs fresher than a fridge.

if you want to grow them, look up what the plants really need, get a pot and seeds and go from there.

Waitrose do bags of chopped frozen coriander. They're brilliant - just take what I need when I need it- still really flavoursome too and more cost effective than the endless bags/plants I've ended up checking out in the past.

i've definitely wasted too much of my life trying to actually grow them.

but the basil does work!

We plant our pots of parsley and thyme outside and they always survive.

Mine survived outside until the hedgehogs ate it! You need to harvest frequently, otherwise it will bolt (go to seed) and die. If you start getting long skinny stalks instead of the shorter leafy ones that's happening and there's not much to do from that point. Just wait and collect your corriander seeds :) When you harvest leaves, take the top bits of any stalks, but leave some leaves below, so that stalk keeps producing more leaves.

I've grown coriander from seeds this year, just with a bit of compost in a yogurt sized pot, move to bigger pot when they're about six weeks old, put outside for a few hours a day for about a week to harden off, then outside for good. I've not fed them, just watered daily in dry weather and have the biggest healthiest coriander plant I've ever seen :)

You could try changing the soil and getting it to the right ph

sainsburys do all sorts of frozen herbs tio - they're fab. but I love chuckimg a handful of fresh herbs on too

Buy three bundles for a pound from Asian supermarkets.

I stand mine up in a jug of water and put in the fridge. It lasts a good while.

Even I the right conditions in the garden it bolts and dies. You need a big packet of seed and sow some every couple of weeks In the summer. Freeze what you don't use.

Gosh.

I've planted supermarket marjoram, thyme, mint, parsley and chives all outside, and they've survived. Parsley's only biennial anyway, and coriander is an annual, so they're not going to live forever.

Years ago I popped one into the fridge door (where the milk lives) on a whim. It lasted for well over a month and seemed quite happy, weirdly. In the end it went to seed, literally, lots of seeds and no leaves. Maybe we had invisible fridge bees.

I try to grow coriander all the time, but it always dies too! I have a Mexican DH so we get through a fair bit :))

Yep me too, another Coriander Killer here!

I have given up trying, buy one big healthy one every so often when doing a batch cook, use it & chop rest up into little pots with a bit of water & freeze for later use.
