about my BiL & my sons christening

Going to give as little detail as possible in order to not cloud peoples opinion. Basically BiL was asked to be godfather for my son who is being christened in 2 weeks. He accepted. Its a special day and a formal occasion. At my insistence my dh contacted him and asked him (a) to wear a suit & (b) to shave off his (scraggy) beard (not being grown for religious/work reasons). He texted back saying he'd wear as suit but wouldn't shave and we could ask someone else if that was what we wanted. So I did ask someone else & texted BiL to tell him I had asked someone else and see you there on the day. He said himself & his family wouldn't be there. I said that's a pity but see you another time. WIBU ?

Really?

IssyStark · 07/07/2015 21:50

Is this real?

Honestly, you are being so utterly and completely unreasonable.

I'm not surprised your BiL reacted as he did. You ditched him as a godparent over his beard, how did you think he'd react to such a petty and vindictive move? You and your husband have some serious grovelling to do, and pronto, before the rift becomes irreparable.

Unbelievable, really unbelievable.

NoArmaniNoPunani · 07/07/2015 21:50

Is this a reverse? If not YABAC

Cabrinha · 07/07/2015 21:51

You know Jesus had a beard, right?

What's more important to you - your version of a nice photo, or your faith?

Seems obvious which one to me. In which case, maybe reconsider whether a christening is for you?

WayneRooneysHair · 07/07/2015 21:51

Gotta be a reverse surely? If not then of course YABU.

lovelyconverse123 · 07/07/2015 21:51

ok thanks everyone

mollypolly a reverse is where the other party in the post (the BIL in this case) writes the post as though from the other POV.

It adds to the confusion.

pasturesgreen · 07/07/2015 21:52

YABU, you should have made your requirements clear when you asked BIL to be godfather.

I can see why he isn't best pleased to have this sprung upon him two weeks before the christening.

Incidentally, may I just mention that a christening, as an important religious occasion, should be more about the spiritual qualities of the godparents rather than their physical appearance.

PurpleDaisies · 07/07/2015 21:52

ok thanks everyone

So is this not a reverse Aibu?

GinUpGirl · 07/07/2015 21:52

YABU! Shave off your hair, your cousin likes you better bald.

Wouldn't like it, would you?

Missrubyring · 07/07/2015 21:53

YABU. His facial hair has no effect on his ability to be a godparent!!!
Reverse maybe??

DoJo · 07/07/2015 21:53

YABU if you actually did this and YABU if this is a reverse.

TestingTestingWonTooFree · 07/07/2015 21:53

It is very unreasonable to ask an adult to shave their beard off.

Hygge · 07/07/2015 21:54

Grin You can't ask someone to shave off their beard to suit you, any more than you could ask them to grow one to suit you, or to cut or grow their hair.

You owe him a massive apology. Otherwise you may have a family rift, and you'll never live it down.

SanityClause · 07/07/2015 21:55

Wow!

usualsuspect333 · 07/07/2015 21:55

'ok thanks everyone'

Is that the best you can do?

Kamden · 07/07/2015 21:55

OP, does he look like this?

about my BiL & my sons christening
SisterMoonshine · 07/07/2015 21:55

The "work/relugious readons" comment make me think it's not a reverse after all.
How funny!
What state are the godmother's eyebrows in!

ILoveMyMonkey · 07/07/2015 21:56

Nothing quite like demonstrating your christian spirit through love and acceptance Hmm. YABU and you've probably damaged your relationship with them permanently!

Whatamuckingfuddle · 07/07/2015 21:57

There MUST be more to this so I'm place marking to find out

UnsolvedMystery · 07/07/2015 21:59

ok thanks everyone
Really? Your post one of the most ridiculous questions ever, and this is your only response?!

Fizrim · 07/07/2015 21:59

Seriously? You asked him to shave off his beard? And then asked someone else? Do you have any idea what a christening is about?

TinyManticore · 07/07/2015 21:59

Oh, come back and tell us that your husband is the beardy one, please

usualsuspect333 · 07/07/2015 21:59

Is he a hipster type. Does he live in Shoreditch?

SayThisOnlyOnce · 07/07/2015 21:59

I don't think Jesus ever shaved his beard.
