Give me strength- holiday huff husband

tallulahturtle · 03/07/2015 07:27

Going on holiday today and now have a grumpy husband who is annoyed I woke up at 6 to go through my cases and try shave a few kilos off (flying Thomas Cook- how tight are they on weights?).
He is basically annoyed as it is the second week in a row where its been his day off and he has woken up and I havent been there. Last week I was up early packing as I woke up early naturally and I work long hours and have a horse so don't get much time to pack.

Basically he wants me to come back to bed and snuggle (shag) , i cant win, if i do go back to bed I will be running like a blue arsed fly later as i still have my horse to sort out before i go away and some washing to do. But if i leave now and go down the yard he will be in a strop.

I have tried explaining that i need these last few hours to sort everything before we go and that next week we can do all the snuggling and sleeping in he wants. Essentially he is annoyed as the two times we have been able to have a lie in together, i have been up early.

Big whoop to the people who take bugger all on holiday. We are both very fair so have to take plenty of sun cream (talking a bottle a day) and thats what fucks the weight up. Also we both enjoy snorkelling and the mask fins boots and snorkel weigh a fair bit. When you have a hard case that weighs 6kgs empty, you can easily be too heavy without having that many clothes.

A bottle a day? Wow! What kind do you use?

The sulking over you not being in the bed is ridiculous.

WipsGlitter · 05/07/2015 07:40

A bottle of sun cream a day??? Are you a giant? I'm v v fair and wouldn't need that much.

letsgotothebeach · 05/07/2015 07:52

So you have 14 bottles of suncream?!

WorldsBiggestGrotbag · 05/07/2015 07:58

Try the 'one application' sun cream, it really works! You'd only need a bottle or 2. DD is the fairest child I've ever seen (she's almost blue!) and we only needed one bottle for 2 weeks.

Athenaviolet · 05/07/2015 07:59

What a bizarre thread!

Shaging a guy to shut him up Hmm

Totally superfluous Horse vet emergency story

Packing and re packing for 2 adults that takes over a week and can only be done at 6am

28 ?!? Bottles of sunscreen (2x14 days?) they sell it abroad btw Hmm

Some people are just weird

Notso · 05/07/2015 08:16

Some people seem make their lives so unecessarily difficult.

Volenflo · 05/07/2015 08:22

Bizarre

pictish · 05/07/2015 08:28

I have gone through such a range of emotions reading this thread. Grin

From frustration to sadness to pity to confusion to hilarity.

Will they be allowed to take 14 bottles of sun cream on the plane?

A bottle of sun cream a day??? Are you a giant? Inhaled my coffee there. Grin

Dowser · 05/07/2015 08:46

Our cases weigh under 3 kg. they are about the lightest I can find.

I start packing a week before. I take the barest minimum in toiletries and buy shower gel when I'm out there. We tend to have winter holidays so summer clothes during the day warm ones on an evening.

When I'm coming home I start packing about 3 days before. If I'm only there for a week about two days before.

Nearly everything is clean because I wash it all while I'm there.

I'm fanatical about how I pack. We are always up to our limit give or take an ounce or two.

Oh is just as bad about shopping as I am . We always bring loads back.

Oh and if we go to America....well we should just take empty suitcases.

mumeeee · 05/07/2015 10:23

How on earth can you use a bottle of sun cream a day? One bottle of a high factor sun cream should be plenty for 2 people for a week.

ThatsNotEvenAWord · 05/07/2015 10:33

A bottle of sun cream a day??? Are you a giant? GrinGrin

snice · 05/07/2015 10:41

^^
That made me snort

magoria · 05/07/2015 10:42

A bottle of sun cream a day sounds about right.

Have a look at some of the recommendations of how much you actually need to apply. It is surprising.

It is a lot more than many do.

magoria · 05/07/2015 10:45

OP if you left him sleeping in bed and didn't wake him YANBU. He stayed his hols worth a lay in.

pinkyredrose · 05/07/2015 11:52

You know you can buy suncream over there? It's not banned for sale outside the UK.

TestingTestingWonTooFree · 05/07/2015 14:51

Pinky some people like a particular brand. Children and I can wear anything, but DH has an allergic reaction to some brands. Not so terrible it sends him to hospital but it ruins a day (eyes steaming, can't see, has to go go bed for several hours to clear it).

Lupercal · 05/07/2015 16:04

&This week I have been manic with work and have barely had the energy to do my horse let alone finish packing. This morning I shagged him to shut him up

hee hee hee hee hee

hooliodancer · 05/07/2015 16:26

Do try ultrasun next year/holiday. I buy it at the airport. I bottle just lasted me 10 days.
Then you have more baggage allowance for clothes.

cardibach · 05/07/2015 16:43

Just looked - Thomas Cook give 6kgs hand luggage and 15kg hold per person on standard holidays (more for long haul). That's plenty for a person for a week. DD packed for a 2 week hockey tour, including 2 sorts of boots and stick, and it weighed 11kg. She didn't take industrial quantities of sun screen though!
A bottle a day is more than needed, even allowing for the fact most people don't put enough on (although I don't burn with the amount I use, so presumably it actually is enough and the amounts the manufacturers suggest may have another motive...). Unless you are going long haul (more baggage allowance anyway) or somewhere really off the beaten track you will be able to buy plenty of sun cream abroad, often including popular UK brands.
Pack to a list, get soft bags (which next to nothing) and just lack nice. It will take up the time you choose to give it.

cardibach · 05/07/2015 16:44

I meant for a person for. Fortnight at the top of that post...

tallulahturtle · 08/07/2015 05:08

Wow its still going :). Well personally a bottle a day of suncream is not excessive between two people. We are out a lot in the sun , snorkelling ,
swimming etc. Those who use one bottle for a two week holiday are either not actually going out in the sun or are those people who arrive back in the UK burned to a crisp. I am very fair with a LOT of moles and my husband is irish hence v fair. Please to those who use so little suncream, use more as you are clearly not using enough.
To those saying if i had time for a veterinary emergency then i didn't need to get up so early. Well i had got up early to finish my suitcase, had planned to exercise my horse, poo pick and then come home , shower, breakfast and then leave for the airport. What actually happened was i got down the yard, and then my friend from next door yard who had seen my car arrive, text to say her horse was injured , so i went over to give her moral support (very nasty cut let , not weight baring) . When we had to clear the yard for xray i popped back to my yard and fly sprayed my horse, did feet, fly mask and gave her a hug and a carrot then went back to my friends yard. I text my husband to let him know what was going on and he came over . We stayed with my friend while vets bandaged him up,
and waited with horse while my friend went and got her trailer from another yard 20 mins away. Horse went to horspital and we rushed home threw the bags in the car and left for airport. So didnt eat or have shower.
Thanks for the concern about the horse, he is ok, and will be moving from horspital to the practice stables soon and then will be coming home for 3-6 weeks box rest.

I am glad that what started as a simple thread turned out to be so entertaining :)
