To want these workmen to piss off!

They have been doing some sort of work on my road since this morning.
They have parked their van an arms length from our tiny cottage. One of them is now sitting on my wall outside of my sitting room window ( could touch his head if I was so inclined) smoking another fag.
I can't open my window. I can't lounge around in my see - through - worn - only - ever - indoors - super - comfy leggings. I simply can't relax cos they are RIGHT OUTSIDE!
Just fuck off!

To want these workmen to piss off!

He's now been joined by his mate. They are both now happily sitting on my wall fagging it away Hmm

I would tell them to piss off. Not your building works, they shouldn't be on your wall. Better still, do you have an upstairs? Accidentally drop your bucket of 'window washing' water on top of them.....

I feel sorry for you though. I'm currently watching a builder, who can only be described as the Diet Coke man's brother. He's super polite as well, and picking up a lovely tan....

Poor workmen - just where exactly do people expect them to sit to take their refreshments?

I do get pissed off with workmen being looked down upon as being third-class citizens.

Presumably, your road needs work doing to it, OP? Otherwise, why are they there? Surely not simply for the benefit of their health or to gain a tan?

Would you be able to sit in another part of your garden, away from them?

I would tell him to piss off. I upset the neighbour yesterday by asking her to not smoke right outside me front window. It stank! She didn't want to smoke in her back garden near her children, but it's ok to smoke near my windows so my kids breath it in while they try and eat....apparently

Ummm where exactly do I say workmen are second class citizens? I want no strangers sitting on my wall outside my window when I'm home, I don't give a crap what they do for a living. Wouldn't care if I wasn't in. NDN on my left and right aren't in, why don't they sit on their wall?
I haven't got a garden, just a back yard. And indeed no other place in my tiny house where I can lounge around except my bedroom.
As for the smoking - I have no problem with smoking but I don't want my living room or bedroom, or DCs bedroom stinking of fags - go on, judge me for it Confused

evans maybe they should take their break somewhere that isn't OP's front garden?! It wouldn't be acceptable for me to leave work and have a picnic on someone's front lawn on my break, so why should it be okay for a builder to do it?

Close the curtains and get on with doing what you were doing. Sheesh. If you'd ever worked on the roads [like I have] you would know that come lunchtime you are practically falling over with exhaustion in this weather.

Perhaps you could make them a cuppa? No - thought not.

Evans Where did the OP look down on workmen as 3rd class citizens? Did you miss the point that the OP was in her house and this is what she is looking out onto?

OP, do you have a front garden? How are they able to park so close to your property?

if there is a way to see a business name/contractors name on the side of the van, see if you can contact them and raise your issues directly. Alternatively go out and ask them (always being polite) to not smoke on your property. Perhaps go out and ask them if they'd like a glass of ice cold water or a refreshment as they are practically in your house and you don't like to be rude to guests (that's the evil streak in me)

Why the "thought not" about OP not making them a cup of tea? Random people bring you cuppas in your job often, do they? Thought not. In fact nobody's ever brought me a cup of tea at work. I feel crap now I know the other 60 million people in this country are all looking down on me.

We live in a little terraced cottage. No real road outside, just a "track" really. Not a through road. Will try and take onother pic.

Am I being a bit thick, but where did it say in OP's post that they were having a picnic on her lawn? I thought they were merely sitting on her wall. Confused

There is no road at all really. Just a space to turn around. Can't get more rural.

It's still her property! Doesn't matter whether it's the grass or the brickwork, why is it acceptable to wander onto someone's property and have your lunch without their permission?

Sorry, I think you're still wrong. Sitting IN someone's garden on their lawn having a picnic is quite different from perching on a wall 'avin' a fag. Where did the lunch pop up it's little head? I don't think anyone even mentioned lunch and wandering onto property - you're just making things up now Grin
