To want these workmen to piss off!

They have been doing some sort of work on my road since this morning.
They have parked their van an arms length from our tiny cottage. One of them is now sitting on my wall outside of my sitting room window ( could touch his head if I was so inclined) smoking another fag.
I can't open my window. I can't lounge around in my see - through - worn - only - ever - indoors - super - comfy leggings. I simply can't relax cos they are RIGHT OUTSIDE!
Just fuck off!

OP - what sort of work have they been doing? Do you live on a Private Road, or is it council-owned. Is the work they have been carrying out going to beneficial to your life? Is your road in a bad state and the repairs will benefit you?

Is it work privately contracted by a neighbour, for instance, in which case, the workmen should be sitting on their wall maybe?

Not enough information!

They are having their lunch actually. Their rucksack is perched on DDs bike saddle. I have no problem with them sitting on my wall in general but they are right outside and if you can make out my last pic you can see there is a large patch of grass two steps away where they could sit

Whether they're eating or not is neither here nor there - they're on their break. They should go somewhere public to have said break - their van, the wall of the house they're working on, the park, whatever...you can't just plonk yourself down on someone's garden wall for your cigarette!

They're on their break from work. I couldn't leave my workplace and plonk myself down on someone's wall for a cigarette so why should a builder be a allowed to do so?

EvansOvalPiesYumYum · 30/06/2015 13:43

Lunch hasn't been mentioned before, nor rucksacks on your bike saddles. Dripfeed?

Why don't you just go out and ask them? It wouldn't be too difficult, surely. Point out the patch of grass maybe??

Mountain - molehill

EvansOvalPiesYumYum · 30/06/2015 13:46

Actually, Googoo - it is here or there. You suggested they were having a picnic on OP's front lawn, which they clearly were not. I'd be a bit cross if that happened, and would challenge them myself.

Again, you are stating untruths. So it does make a difference

Take out some glasses of cold water and say you thought thy looked like they could do with a drink. Then ask them politely if they'd mind not sitting on your wall to smoke as the smoke really bothers you. Might stand more chance of amicable success than telling them to piss off.

justkeeponsmiling · 30/06/2015 13:49

Well no, I'm not dripfeeding. They had a fag earlier, I posted, they returned to work and came back about 20mins ago to have lunch.

Perfect solution, Soup Smile

Ha ha I love the parallel world of mumsnet! Now you're not even allowed to moan about something a workman does as it's clearly a class issue Grin

I'm assuming Op would be just as pissed off if it were a little gaggle of barristers sitting on her wall smoking fags.

I agree it's probably a good time to decide the upstairs windows need cleaning, throw them open and start sloshing a wet sponge around Grin

EvansOvalPiesYumYum · 30/06/2015 14:00

Now I'd assume that if there were to be a gaggle of barristers sitting on a wall smoking, they'd be there for a justifiable reason, a bit like a group of workmen. Doing a job, taking a break. Same question would surely be asked - are the barristers there to help me in any way? And would they like a drink of water, and should I point out the patch of grass to them Smile

addictedtosugar · 30/06/2015 14:20

I'd say something, but jusding from my last attempt to get the bulders to park a bit more sensibly (ie if they parked closer to where they were working, it would remove the chicane they had made in the nursery carpark) I got a barrrage of abuse, so I just shurgged and moved on. By the time I had collected the kids, the van had moved.

What did you do in the end OP?
