Aibu to want to say something to this parent

I'm in a group on facebook for parents. One mum just posted about how her child wet herself so she locked her in her room. The child then screamed 'let me out you bastard'.

The mum then washed her DD mouth out with soap.

I'm in shock. I can't believe what I have read. Washing a child's mouth out with soap.

Would you say anything or just ignore it.

I'd say something.

NRomanoff · 27/06/2015 12:38

I would ignore it, mainly because I would assume the person had typed it to cause a reaction and get into an Facebook argument. Some people love a good fb fight.

If I didn't use it for business I wouldn't have an fb account at all.

WhataMistakeaToMakea · 27/06/2015 12:38

Report to Nspcc. As a sw I would want to call her after this referral abd advise her this is not appropriate and any further reports of similar could lead to social work involvement.

WhataMistakeaToMakea · 27/06/2015 12:38

Screen shot it

lapetitesiren · 27/06/2015 12:39

This family needs some help. Do you know who they are?

AuntyMag10 · 27/06/2015 12:39

I would ignore it because whatever you say would not be well received.

wowfudge · 27/06/2015 12:39

You can only wonder what the child is experiencing. I'm aghast that it's just the washing her mouth out with soap that you think is wrong.

Birdsgottafly · 27/06/2015 12:40

If she's in the UK, id have to point out that her behaviour is abusive and would be acted upon by SS.

If outside the UK, id just point out that its abusive and I'm happy that in my country is deemed as such by law.

Id also direct her to better ways of parenting and incontinence solving.

DialsMavis · 27/06/2015 12:40

I'd be more concerned about the locking child in room for wetting themselves

Reignbeau · 27/06/2015 12:41

I'd take it with a pinch of salt and think it was probably a troll.

teeththief · 27/06/2015 12:41

My mother used to wash my brothers mouth out with washing up liquid if he swore in the 80s/90s (it was common back then amongst my friends too). Would it really warrant a ss visit??

I'd be more concerned with the locking in the bedroom because they wet themselves tbh

LadyCuntingtonThe3rd · 27/06/2015 12:41

I would report it to NSPCC. Obviously screen shot it as well.

WhataMistakeaToMakea · 27/06/2015 12:42

It wouldn't be an Ss visit but a phone call or letter to advise it's not ok.

teeththief · 27/06/2015 12:42

My question is genuine before anybody thinks I'm agreeing with washing a child's mouth out. We didn't think anything of it as children....

DragonWithAGirlTattoo · 27/06/2015 12:42

I would post with a ?

then look at the parents page to do a bit of background checking to see if there are other warning shots?

screenshot it too! as it might end up being removed

WorraLiberty · 27/06/2015 12:44

Has this person posted before? If so, are they normally a goady fucker?

If they are, then I would ignore as they're probably just goading.

If not, and they usually post 'normal' things, I would probably screen shot and send to the NSPCC.

NRomanoff · 27/06/2015 12:45

The washing out with soap is bad enough and probably would warrant a visit. Would you think it was normal to if a man did it to his wife?

Add in the locking them up for wetting themselves and yes definite visit is needed.

Op, I wouldn't reply but get advice from nspcc , as the pp said and screen shot it.

Either a troll that thinks it's funny to joke about abusing her child or an actual abuser. Assuming the child exists, either way someone needs to look at this.

WanderingTrolley1 · 27/06/2015 12:45

I wouldn't believe it.

YellowTangerine · 27/06/2015 12:45

She actually just said 'it was johnsons so that is alright' Shock

OP posts:
spaghettajames · 27/06/2015 12:49

Don't say anything.

Do screenshot and report to nspcc.

fastdaytears · 27/06/2015 12:51

Are they definitely for real?

YellowTangerine · 27/06/2015 12:52

I presume they are real. It's a genuine profile and on a genuine mums meet up group. The child is 3

OP posts:
Birdsgottafly · 27/06/2015 12:55

I would see what her reaction is to you saying something, after taking a screenshot.

I think child abuse is everyone's business, though.

throwingpebbles · 27/06/2015 13:00

I would report it. If she posts openly about doing that ...

FizzyGreenWater · 27/06/2015 13:00

Yes I would screenshot and report to NSPCC.

My mum did this.

Can't ask her what her rationale was, as I'm happily NC :)

I have to say, as a child in the 70s I did think rather a lot of it...
