I have a couple of FB friends deeply into Forever Living at the moment. I'd hide them but there's some weird fascination in watching it play out.

Anyway one of them has linked something today where a FL person is telling a story about a relative of theirs with cancer who wasn't tolerating chemo and is now doing much better after drinking Aloe Vera gel. It's not making any claims that it treats cancer (it says he now could be strong enough to restart treatment) and it's only anecdotal but it just doesn't sit right with me. I have no experience of the products at all btw.

AIBU to feel a bit uncomfortable about that?

Juice plus stops miscarriage...you heard it here first Hmm

moooolah · 01/07/2015 11:01

Oh. My. God.

CarbeDiem · 01/07/2015 11:32

This fucking infuriates me.
A woman along my mums street has recently started selling this bollocks and dropped a leaflet/info through the door with all the so called benefits and promises of miracles.

My poor mum, while not stupid, is currently seeking some kind of miracle and really gave this some thought. We sat and chatted about it at length.
She has a terminal, rare form of brain cancer - Dr's are struggling to help her so I dont hold out much hope that this shite could.

FF to the other day and this woman came knocking asking if mum had read the leaflets and was she interested. I could hear them but kept quiet until I heard the cow telling my mum that she'd noticed mum wearing a bandana, could see she had lost her hair and this would help her.
At this point I went to the door and asked her from which medical school did she qualify and if she could provide scientific backup that this can/will cure my mother. I also advised her that she'd be better investing her time in the woohoo as she clearly had a gift - how else could she have possibly known my mums condition and diagnosis ......
I don't think she'll be back :)

bumbleymummy · 01/07/2015 11:50

There's some info about using Aloe products on the Cancer Research website here if anyone wants to have a quick read.

bumbleymummy · 01/07/2015 11:52

Sorry to hear about your mum Carbe Thanks. It sounds like you handled the situation well!

wickedwitchofwaterloo · 01/07/2015 12:39

Downtown How on earth can they peddle such crap?!

MissBattleaxe · 01/07/2015 13:31

I'm thinking Trade Descriptions would be interested.

Headdesk · 01/07/2015 14:15

I have a FL person on my facebook. Posted a video of one of their wraps except you could quite clearly see his model pushing out her stomach in the befofe and then sucking her stomach in on the after bit. Did make me giggle.
Also he claims to have lost 14lb on the cleanse 9 and so many inches, yet looks exactly the same in the photos he's been tagged in the past few days Hmm

CarbeDiem · 01/07/2015 15:12

Thanks Bumbley.
You know, I wouldn't have given her short shrift IF she had went along the lines of 'it could improve your energy' or whatever. NO amount of detoxification, alkalising the body, boosting the immune system is going to help my mum with what she has. It also certainly isn't going to reduce the inflammation mum suffers what even a high dose of prescribed steroids don't always touch.
I will give it one star for being quite good for my skin - I've tried it myself (but not the FL rubbish)

MissBattleaxe · 02/07/2015 08:19

There's a really unsubtle FL plug over on the Weight Loss topic. See if you can spot it. (clue, it's really obvious!)

bumbleymummy · 02/07/2015 08:23

My FL did that diet thing - whatever it's called. Honestly didn't see that much difference. No more than what you'd see if she'd just eaten the healthy diet and not bothered with the juice.

MissBattleaxe · 02/07/2015 09:14

Yeah the C9 is basically a fast for a few days, then fruit and veg and then surprise! You've lost weight. You will definitely lose over a hundred pounds (in cash)

Kajamite · 02/07/2015 09:19

YANBU to feel uncomfortable. That's ridiculous.

My mum used to do FL when I was really young Blush

My asthma was just manifesting itself at the time and she took me off my inhalers without consulting the doctor, in favour of a shot of aloe vera juice shite every morning.

Needless to say it didn't in fact cure my asthma, or even help it in any way and it ended pretty badly.

On the plus side she stopped selling FL afterwards Grin

FarFromAnyRoad · 02/07/2015 09:24

MissBattleaxe - that really is a very unsubtle FL plug isn't it? And that picture? Pure photoshop - smoke and mirrors. I shall stay here and sit on my hands because if I go over there and let rip and that stupid person I will end up in a world of MN pain!

MissBattleaxe · 02/07/2015 09:28

FarFrom- indeed. It's textbook FL- before and after shots, "contact me" and dare I say it, friends sockpuppets saying good things and asking questions.

Stubbed · 02/07/2015 09:32

My FL friend claims the shampoo makes your hair grow faster. No it doesn't. I posted on her wall to ask her to stop making things up. If she was advertising on TV it wouldn't be allowed.

Flp only use gel from the inner leaf which is the part that is of any good. It is the outer part that can have side effects of a laxative. Flp put this part of the plant back into the ground as a natural fertiliser

HighwayDragon1 · 07/04/2016 13:06

another fl moron, resurrecting zombie thread to sell their wears. Shame.

BeyondTellsEveryoneRealFacts · 07/04/2016 13:25

FL can resurect zombies, fact.

Grin
Zucker · 07/04/2016 18:54

Ahhhhhh that explains the miracle it's the inner leaf. Phew for a minute there I thought it was all made up bollox. Oh wait Shock!

DecaffCoffeeAndRollupsPlease · 07/04/2016 22:57

The pregnant lady one- amazing how as she progressed with pregnancy and quack junk her migraines went, amazing! Nothing to do with the fact that some migraines have hormonal triggers, nothing. The fact that my migraines disappeared during pregnancy without any quackery juice... coincidence?

DecaffCoffeeAndRollupsPlease · 07/04/2016 23:07

All quackery should be banned. Makes me angry it does.

I've had to bat away nutters trying to sell me on their cures for partner )at the time) cystic fibrosis. People he wanted to stay friends with I had to grit my teeth whilst replying "we'll look in to that, thank you for bringing it to our attention". ( but not taking him off the antibiotics, steroids, nebs, insulin, and other meds just to enable him to sit up in the morning, breathe, and manage something to eat, thanks. Not that level of thanks)

Arrrrrrgh, fucking quackery, fucking peddlers of fuckwittery twatery.

We need to strengthen the laws on what words have licenced only use, and tighten up on people infringing the laws already in place.

Kanga59 · 07/04/2016 23:17
