Betty - I think it would be unnecessary to initially make a massive scene. Asking nicely at first might very well do the trick! If not, then you could try making a fuss.

Night is right - JL don't have a loyalty card as such. Points are earned on their Partnership or credit card.

SnapesCapes · 24/06/2015 16:27

I have a John Lewis card that's not a partnership ro credit card. It's a 'my John Lewis' card I think.

PercyGherkin · 24/06/2015 16:29

No, Night is not right. They do. I have one.

PeppermintCrayon · 24/06/2015 16:29

Wow, I never knew that about bank notes.

Seeing as it's John Lewis I think yanbu.

EvansOvalPiesYumYum · 24/06/2015 16:30

They have a Membership Card (Waitrose have a 'My Waitrose' Card). It just entitles you to special offers and the ability to enter prize draws and suchlike, I think.

(If there is a loyalty card, then I will have to apply for one) Grin

BettyCatKitten · 24/06/2015 16:30

Yes Evans try the nice approach first Smile

Nightboattocairo · 24/06/2015 16:31

Thanks evans - JL do not have a points based loyalty card like Boots etc do. They give you rewards throughout the year. That's what on earth I'm talking about, - cactusannie - you don't collect points to then go on to choose a new Saucepan! (I shall ignore your snarky manner.)

YellowYoYoYam · 24/06/2015 16:31

I've always found their customer service in store to be much better than their call centre. I agree with others who've suggested taking it in store. Hopefully there's some of the voucher left to show them?

Nightboattocairo · 24/06/2015 16:31

Yes, I guess it's a loyalty card, but no points are added, ever

EvansOvalPiesYumYum · 24/06/2015 16:32

They have a membership card, which entitles you to special offers and entry into prize draws and suchlike. (Waitrose have a 'My Waitrose' card).

As far as I know, it doesn't earn points. If there is one, then I will have to apply Grin

squeaver · 24/06/2015 16:32

Yes but the Partnership Card here does give you vouchers, so it is Points Mean Prizes.

That is the Partnership credit card though, not a loyalty card, two different things.

EvansOvalPiesYumYum · 24/06/2015 16:34

Sorry - my second post is similar to the one before - I thought the previous one went 'poof' as PC went a bit weird, so I typed again. Blush

Branleuse · 24/06/2015 16:35

if you washed a £50 note, then it wouldnt even be damaged. You can rip a note and tape it together and its still legal tender. Obviously gift vouchers are very bad value if theyre so delicate and the customer service is so bad

Nightboattocairo · 24/06/2015 16:35

What you on about, Willis?!

They do not add points. Yes it is a loyalty card, of sorts.

Does it matter? No. Cool your jets.

SunnySomer · 24/06/2015 16:37

Maybe they're becoming a bit more hard-line because too many people take the pee? On a separate issue, my DH went on a tour of their distribution centre and said they photograph every single order they despatch before the box is sealed because so many people would order an iPad plus a pair of socks, then would call to say only the socks had been delivered, expecting a second iPad "because it's john Lewis". Maybe they're sick of being taken for mugs?

FlumptyDumpty · 24/06/2015 16:38

V surprised to hear it's John Lewis doing this. I thought they prided themselves on their customer service. As it was issued via your loyalty card I would have thought they'd be able to check the voucher in question hasn't been spent. They could then just cancel it and issue another. V unimpressive.

Have you tried tweeting them? I find companies much more amenable to pleasing the customer if you raise the issue on Twitter, as otherwise hundreds of people get to know where they've fallen short.

Blimey, you do know you've been quite rude to me, yes? Not my intention to annoy you.

Cherryblossomsinspring · 24/06/2015 16:44

JL have been excellent in my experience! Even when I had a voucher that showed up as used online they replaced it for me. I had the codes for both the previous one and the next one as I had received a load as wedding gifts but they couldn't have known I didn't give it to someone else who used it. I didn't, it seems it had been cloned by fraudsters but that was a much shaker situation than yours. They should be able to see that the original voucher they sent you has NOT been used and then issue it again or replace it with a new one of they trust you enough to not go and use the old one some other time (Which I know you can't but they don't know that for sure).

EvansOvalPiesYumYum · 24/06/2015 16:45

So, Night was right, Annie was wrong (and quite rude to boot)!
Nothing wrong with being wrong if it's acknowledged.
Was that an apology, Annie? Smile

ChocolateWombat · 24/06/2015 16:51

If it was issued by JL, they should be able to trace the issue code of it and also be able to see on their system that it hasn't been spent. They could then void that voucher and re-issue. So actually they CAN track it and see it hasn't already been spent.

I lost my Nectar points card. It had enough points for me to get 4 tickets to Legoland which I was about to do. When I called to say it was lost, they could see someone had been and spent the points in our local Sainsburys and so they wouldn't replace them. I was disappointed, but could see that in that circumstance, because they could track it and see they were spent it was reasonable not to replace.

If I were you, I would write to them - explain clearly the type of couched it was and when it was issued to you. Ask them if they can track it and see that it has not been spent. Say you were disappointed at the attitude of the staff person you spoke to. Be very polite.
