AIBU?

'This Morning's hosts being cruel, or was she fair game?

First thread I've started. I watched This Morning, (I'm off sick awaiting surgery, and get my fun where I can!) There was an interview with a woman of 58, who says she looks 35, she says she's had men cry at her beauty, and people have crashed cars through looking at her in the street. She is very slim with large (implants ) breasts. Think She was in the newspaper recently.

The issue is Amanda an Phillip were clearly mocking her. They filmed her walking about and pointed out no one looked at her. Amanda was smirking and trying not to laugh, they both looked sceptical, Amanda asked if what was inside mattered and Phillip finished by saying 'well that just shows everyone is beautiful to someone'

AIBU to think they were cruel and nasty, or did she make herself open to this? I am cross on her behalf.

Shes deluded because she thinks she soo much better than everyone else - and thats why i dont like her (based on the article) there is a huge difference between confident (i like confident) and arrogant - she is arrogant (based on the article - men cry at my beauty, and crash cars, and think i am in my 30s)

MissPenelopeLumawoo2 · 24/06/2015 14:59

'People are always surprised to see someone as glamorous as me walking around,' she says

From the DM link. Did she really say that? Do people really come out with stuff like that? I suspect the article has been 'surgically enhanced', if she really did say that then she is bonkers! Glamorous?

WallyBantersJunkBox · 24/06/2015 14:59

I didn't see it, but just googled her quickly. Her physique is very good (I don't like the boob job particularly).

However i find more and more confusion with the kind of plastic surgery women have that results in her features. I saw a younger girl on a program have similar procedures, Heidi Montag I think?

They seem to go from a particular age to a "plastic surgery age". Are they 20 but look 60, 60 trying to be 20? They look like a nondescript age in a bracket all of its own. To me this seems to age women more? You can't guess their age so you just think "very old trying to be young".

Nothing wrong with that, if that's what you desire I guess. I quite enjoy looking 40. More than I'd thought actually. I feel secure in my own slightly looser skin. Grin

Perhaps she never did and this helps her in some way. But if she invited herself on for ridicule maybe she's just really thick skinned.

I can't muster up a single fuck to give about daytime tv.

Sallystyle · 24/06/2015 15:00

I don't believe for a second she is confident.

People who genuinely have good self esteem and confidence don't feel the need to go around telling the world how great they are.

I would guess that she has very low self-esteem deep down.

pictish · 24/06/2015 15:00

When she describes the man who was drawn to tears by her 'beauty' (he was standing with his wife at the time) you can tell she sees what she wants to see and believes what she wants to believe. There was nothing in her anecdote the man had even noticed her - she just assumed he had and that's why his eyes had filled up. Confused

She's shallow, dull, self obsessed and deluded. A fine example of a narcissist at play.

Daft cow.

SaskiaRembrandtWasFramed · 24/06/2015 15:00

What cupofthemiddle said.

And yes, why do the DM always stick women in those frumpy dresses that appear to be at least a size too small? I've never seen anyone dressing like that in real life since at least the 1970s.

pictish · 24/06/2015 15:01

nothing in her anecdote to indicate the man had noticed her...

Denimwithdenim00 · 24/06/2015 15:02

Why is it mysoginistic? Are you saying women need protecting against themselves as they are too stupid to see the what they say makes them controversial?

She's a mature adult woman. She either believes she looks 35 or more likely she's after attention and to make a quick buck.

Either way that's fine but it's equally fair game to take the piss. Why not? I would take the piss of any body of any age who is so big headed and vacuous.

I am 51 and wear what the fuck I like but agree with my mothers mantra.
Self praise is no praise.

Denimwithdenim00 · 24/06/2015 15:03

No idea how the dm dress women! All newspapers are crap and the dm utter crap.

SaskiaRembrandtWasFramed · 24/06/2015 15:07

No, I don't think women need protecting from themselves. However, the DM does have a track record of finding useful idiots (this woman, that other one - somebody Brick who is married to a werewolf - and Jiz Lones), and using them to promote the idea that women are obsessed with their own beauty and anyone who suggest they aren't beautiful is jealous. It is basic misogyny because it plays into the idea that we are all pathetic, insecure and morbidly jealous of each other.

SaskiaRembrandtWasFramed · 24/06/2015 15:09

I've remembered what the dresses remind me of - Sybil from Faulty Towers. I suspect Dacre has a Sybil fetish.

cupofthemiddle · 24/06/2015 15:09

Oh, and it encourages us to devote attention and emotional energy to shaming other women (who might just be a bit eccentric/weird/barking but are essentially harmless) rather than tackling the REAL issues for women.

paulapompom · 24/06/2015 15:11

In the tv interview she said she'd had one enhancement only, the implants, which I thought didn't look good. ButI did think she had a nice figure for a woman who does no exercise. Yeah I didn't like that comment about the man standing with his wife though!

Just read the article. I'm speechless for once. And she's from my hometown. Blush

DoraMarstellar · 24/06/2015 15:31

If she hadn't had something done to her face then I'm a pork pie.

She's got that telltale stretched look.

LotusLight · 24/06/2015 15:35

She looks better than many women her age because she's not fat which 60%+ of us are these days in the UK! It's all in the weight.

DragonWithAGirlTattoo · 24/06/2015 15:42

but women need a bit of fat, there is a picture of her in a bikini, and her legs have no definition

With the loose skin (legs/tummy), is that an age or a rapid weight loss thing (i'm really not flaming her, i know it sounds bitchy, but am genuinely wondering, - i'm mid 40s and no glamour puss either, but want to know what i have to look forward to)

for her age, she looks fine.

Pumpkinpositive · 24/06/2015 15:46

Phillip finished by saying 'well that just shows everyone is beautiful to someone'

A lot depends on how he said it but on paper, that sounds a bit dickish.

Sallystyle · 24/06/2015 15:52

My mum is 60 and looks younger than her.

I think she has a lovely body but her face shows her age, and there is nothing wrong with that.

Roussette · 24/06/2015 15:53

I thought Philip and Amanda couldn't have been nicer given her total arsiness. Yes, she is a reasonably attractive woman but her fake boobs looked utterly ridiculous as did the outfit she was wearing to parade down the street.

Good figure, yes of course she has but she had a downturn to her mouth I thought and didn't sound like a particularly nice person and verrrrry irritating.

Peacheykeen · 24/06/2015 15:56

I'm sure she was on couples come dine with me a few weeks ago. I didn't see the TM interview but Amanda always seems to look a bit smug to me. The lady has got a good physique but she doesn't look 35. I love her confidence though Grin

Bathsheba · 24/06/2015 15:57

She looks every single minute of 58....

GeekLove · 24/06/2015 15:59

I remember her on CDWM - that episode with the pooing snake and the man who boasted confessed that he had never read a single book.
She was going on about how beautiful everyone said she was. I couldn't see it myself as her default expression that week seemed to be 'someone licking shit of a statue of Hitler'.
Having said that she would be attractive if she smiled more. You get the face you deserve...
