AIBU?

To hate when neighbours sign for my parcels

Especially neighbours I do not even know. I understand it's a nice thing some do but if you aren't in all day then I have to constantly go back and forth knocking on the door hoping you are in.
It's so annoying, why can't people just refuse it? I refuse to do it only my upstairs neighbour I sign for because we have a communal bit that I can leave the parcel for when he returns.
A neighbour few doors down signed for my expensive parcel from harrods and hasn't been in since it was signed for at 11am
Should I leave a note?

Oh also I know someone whose neighbour (in an upstairs flat) took in a parcel for them from Next or one of the catalogues and the delivery note was showing the account number so then ordered a £2k worth of clothes and took in the parcels for those too...

I've hated neighbours taking parcels in since a matey 'we all know each other round here' postman used to leave parcels with random neighbours without getting them to sign for them, and without leaving me a card. Of course I had several 'missing' deliveries during this period until I realized. Now I have zero trust for any of my neighbours.

You've just reminded me actually that my 'don't leave with the neighbours' door sticker is very weather worn, must order a new one.

That's odd. Because when you order online from next you need your password as well as your account number . And your friend must be well off to have a £2,000 credit limit

fastdaytears · 23/06/2015 23:36

Stacey not if you ring up you don't, and Next gave me a £2k credit limit when I was 18, so they're not that picky. But yes relative not too badly off so don't lose any sleep over it.

Blimey - neighbour kindly signs for parcel when you weren't at home to take it in? Last week a poster complained because the neighbour cut her grass whilst they were away! What a wicked world we live in!!

Harrods actually have a bad reputation for not telling you when a parcel will be delivered

This thread is hilarious. Op your NDNs are clearly utter bastards, trying to help you out, how unreasonable! You should LTBs

Also shocked that Harrods doesnt have tracking, seriously what it the world coming to? You'd only expect this kind of shoddy service from common discount stores like Amazon! You'd have to be a mug to pay for overpriced Harrods tat and accept such shit delivery terms Grin

God I hate this. We have a notice on our door asking not to deliver parcels elsewhere as our mad neighbour won't give them back

Surely you'd need more than just an account number Confused theres usually a password for online stuff and telephone order will ask security questions DOB, mothers maiden name etc?
Also how did she know the reciepient would conveniently not be in whilst any of the 2k worth of purchases where delivered?

It's harrods OBVIOUSLY there is tracking and no they don't call you, since when has parcel force called anyone.
"Why wasn't i in"
It's called having a JOB
common sense really isn't that common on here is it. hmm

Thanks to anyone who answered their opinion without being rude.

Hmm

Pot. Kettle. Black.

What a self obsessed horrible person you sound. Oh and a BIG Stealth there, your Harrod's delivery. Hope the Neighbours find out your ungrateful attitude and never take a delivery in for you again.

What a self obsessed thread .

OP I hope your neighbours somehow find this and refuse to be considerate with taking in your Harrods parcels (stealth boast MUCH) in future. Some people's self importance is astounding.

I am more than happy to take in neighbours parcels , , oh none are from Harrods but hey ho, ,never even been there, have no interest in the Store.

mileend I don't know why they don't ask for that stuff but I know they don't because I used to order stuff on my mum's account years ago (note my mum is not the relative and she knew I was ordering school trousers or whatever). I guess as you were having it sent to your own address they weren't so fussed. Also they apparently improved it all after they had to refund and now you can't see the number without opening the package.
Not hard to know that you'll be able to intercept a parcel though when your neighbour works full time. I did read at the time that it had happened to other people too sadly. But obviously most neighbours are lovely and this lady had a lot more issues than just getting some free clothes. This was very much the tip of the iceberg.

Sometimes Mumsnet slides over into an different universe from the one I am in.

londonrach I so agree. They must hate me in F&M for looking at everything for hours and buying one minuscule box of biscuits. Everything is so pretty in there though. Has Harrods stopped doing the puppies now? Not that they were available for mail order I guess.

Just sometimes margaritasbythesea!
I inhabit a universe where neighbours are considerate enough to take in parcels and the recipients are grateful! I shall continue to do the decent thing.
If you don't like it use common sense and put your wishes on the delivery note.

YABU. Our neighbours are in at funny hours of the day and will always sign for a parcel if necessary. It can be frustrating waiting for them to return home and hand it in but they are only being nice and if the courier took it away I would be waiting longer!

YABU.
For many people it's a Godsend to have people do this.
My NDN is a merry as a judge most days, but will take in deliveries for all of us and leave a note saying she has it. I'm always very grateful to her.

I just get everything delivered to work. Better option altogether, even if it involves having to lug stuff home on the tube during rush hour!

How do you know he hasn't been in since 11am if you've been at work? If you don't want neighbours to sign for parcels then you make that clear to neighbours and when you order a parcel. There is usually a space for delivery instructions. I just get mine delivered to my work.

Report
momb · 24/06/2015 11:24

I hope you got your parcel OP. I kind of understand your frustration if you've been home a while and want your parcel but they have saved you a journey even if it takes an hour or two longer than you wanted.
I dread things being sent by parcel force..if there's no-one in to sign for it they take it back to the depot which is a 70-odd mile round trip. On the rare occasions my neighbours have been around to sign for anything I've bought them flowers .
