To be annoyed the Tory 30 hour free childcare doesn't apply in Scotland!

It's just annoying, to be honest.

I don't like the Tories, but if we have to have them the least they could do is throw us a bone up here.

30 hours free childcare when my DD turned 3 would be absolutely fantastic. I could actually afford to live a normal life again, why isn't in Scotland? 15 hours is great, don't get me wrong, but 30 hours would be PERFECT.

HOW ANNOYING!?!?!?!

Write to your local MP. I'm sure they will be really really helpful.

QuiteLikely5 · 23/06/2015 10:22

I agree with you OP but there is going to be a change to the funding of childcare costs.

The government is going to pay 20p in every pound that you pay towards childcare. They will pay 2k per year max.

Have a Google

Already being consulted in Scotland on extension of provision to 25 hours.
It is in the SNP manifesto so I assume it will happen about same time as 30 hours in England.
The fly in the ointment will be whether it is care or education as the free 15 hours does not currently apply in some local authorities unless you can make use of state early years education provision.
I am more concerned that the free 30 hours for 2 working parents will lead to a watering down of early years education for all and result in low quality childcare even for those who qualify. The 30 hours "free" provision as defined by the government may well be cheaper than the costs associated with childcare element of WTC and childcare vouchers.

All smoke and mirrors as usual. Glad my dc will be out of early years education by the time this all happens.

What is the cost of dental treatment, just out of interest?

Is it the same as England for NHS treatment, only you don't have to pay for Band 1?

At the moment these are the prices for each band.

Band 1: £18.80 covers an examination, diagnosis and advice. If necessary, it also includes X-rays, a scale and polish and planning for further treatment.

Band 2: £51.30 covers all treatment covered by Band 1, plus additional treatment, such as fillings, root canal treatment and removing teeth (extractions).

Band 3: £222.50 covers all treatment covered by Bands 1 and 2, plus more complex procedures, such as crowns, dentures and bridges.

Doesn't Scotland get free hospital parking too? We have to pay a lot for that in England.

It would be nice if everyone got everything for free, but the world doesn't work like that unfortunately.

GinandJag · 23/06/2015 10:25

Throw you a bone? You mean the Barnet formula?

RagingJellyBean · 23/06/2015 10:26

I'm just a bit sour today because I've handed over 80% of my wages. Working a 30 hour week for £200 feels slightly crap.
Never mind, another year to go! 15 hours is better than nout!

Well enjoy the university tuition, hopefully that will sweeten the totally unfair deal for you.

RagingJellyBean · 23/06/2015 10:29

I don't think we get free hospital parking? I've had to pay to park for visiting & an appointment before! Although it wasn't expensive, about £3 for a couple hours if I remember correctly.

Crying with laughter at the free hospital parking!!! Google Ninewells Hopsital Parking Tickets in news....jeezo!!!

Dental treatment I am not sure about but my mum recently had a front crown replaced and it was over £500

RagingJellyBean · 23/06/2015 10:30

The university tuition means nothing to me. Hopefully it will to my daughter but I've never been to university & also don't understand.
When did the tuition fees become free? My brother had to get out a student loan to pay his, is this a recent thing?!

SillyStuffBiting · 23/06/2015 10:30

No it's not all free parking. If you're lucky enough to go to a hospital that's owned by a PFI it costs a fortune.

Basics...

Scotland isn't subsidised and isn't a a leech. We have a budget based on what we pay in and what is devolved.

The Scottish government then prioritises that funding and allocates it.

Don't hate on Scotland because successive Scottish governments have prioritised things that you wish that the UK government had.

ClaimedByMe · 23/06/2015 10:30

And with the shit Scottish education my dd has had up to now the closest she will get to Uni is being a cleaner...

RagingJellyBean · 23/06/2015 10:31

I had 2 crowns fitted last year for free because my daughter wasn't 1 yet, had I paid I would have been about £500/600. I'm avoiding the dentist like the plague now because she is no longer under 1 & if I had to pay for dental treatment I'd be eating weeds for a month.

OP posts:
RagingJellyBean · 23/06/2015 10:32

I say this as I chew my lip because one of the crowns hurt, a lot Confused

I never cease to be amazed by how uninformed people are on here. OP, you do know about devolved issues and the Scottish Government?

Uhplistrailer · 23/06/2015 10:34

30 hours will destroy our early years settings.

The 15 hours is bad enough and nursery schools and childminders are struggling as it is.

I know at least 2 nursery schools in our area that have had to take out loans just to keep afloat and countless childminders that are struggling with only getting £3.80 per hour for early years children.

DiseasesOfTheSheep · 23/06/2015 10:35

If you want to slate anyone, OP, take it up with the SNP. You can't blame the Tories for the decisions of your devolved parliament...

SillyStuffBiting · 23/06/2015 10:37

England is the only country within the UK still charging for prescriptions. All the facts and research show it's a cost neutral exercise.

Administrating the fees charged costs a lot. Tge vast majority of prescriptions are issued to people who are exempt from paying in the first place.

RiverTam · 23/06/2015 10:38

You sound astonishingly uninformed, OP.

SillyStuffBiting · 23/06/2015 10:40

Agent there's always a huge amount of ill informed people resorting to a base line of nasty swipes who are completely unaware of how it works.

Wales and NI aren't subjected to the same rethoric.

It's exhausting trying to appease and inform.

SillyStuffBiting · 23/06/2015 10:40

And I say that as a no voter.

ReallyTired · 23/06/2015 10:46

The SNP spin machine has been at work again. They blame the English Tories for their polices. If you want the same policies as England then you need to vote for a party that will give you those policies in your devolved parlimement.

I wonder if the SNP would find a way to blame the tories if they had got independence?
