that's all. Not properly angry, just a little bit irritated every time. I guess I should shop at Rymans and Staples instead

Erm I quite like boots "shitty" products. Their range for greasy skin is excellent and their Anti ageing serum won awards. I also like their foundations. I love their vouchers and work out how to get the most out of my shop. This will often result in me doing multiple trips to the tills. I'm obviously a Saddo! Smile

IAmNotDarling · 23/06/2015 07:30

The email address thing bugs the fuck out of me, but it's when they ask for your address. I had one salesperson tell me she couldn't process a sale without it and I left the shop.

EggsAreNotFromCows · 23/06/2015 07:39

At least it's just one - it's Sainsburys I can't abide, where you get 3 or 4. All with a short date on them so usually useless
How much tat do they all think I can carry in my bag? a lot but that's not the point

SqueezyCheeseWeasel · 23/06/2015 07:40

I just say "no thank you" and they give them to the next person.

MrsRossPoldark · 23/06/2015 08:09

I detest my local WHS and avoid as much as possible.

It's not the paper that puts me off, but the (self service) tills are so completely swamped behind badly lit, huge pyramids of tacky board games, chocolates, special offer crap, that you can't actually see the tills! Then you have to go past the RNID stand with its salespeople trying to get you to sign up for a d/d as you finally exit the shop!

Makes me feel dirty and pressured - not customer friendly at all - WHSmith what were you thinking?!? Just stop it!

MTWTFSS · 23/06/2015 08:16

I definitely get WHSmith rage! From their narrow aisles to those vouchers that only start a week later and by then I've either lost them or I simply don't need anything until the day after the voucher has run out Angry

missingmumxox · 23/06/2015 08:42

I too used to love WH smith but rarely go in now, the jumble shop tills, the pressure to buy chocolate even at the self service till at get this, it's like 29 fucking questions do you want water, have taken a bag, how are you paying!!
And another thing why are they so dimly lit? Can't see half the time

MyVisionsComeFromSoup · 23/06/2015 08:45

are Boots doing a £5 off No 7 at the moment? I need some more foundation misses point of thread totally

StrangeGlue · 23/06/2015 08:47

I don't like it but I would never say anything as I assume the staff don't like it any better.

timelyreminder · 23/06/2015 09:06

I often buy online from high street shop websites, but the vouchers usually can't be used on their websites.

mileend2bermondsey · 23/06/2015 12:34

Boots are ALWAYS doing 5 pound off No7. Thats what makes me think their products must be shitty if they constantly have to give the stuff away!

RosesareSublime · 23/06/2015 12:40

yes! all this fuss over the plastic bags and then here - is a shed loads of crappy useless offers on a ton of paper Confused

timelyreminder · 23/06/2015 12:51

Here's an idea for environmental equality. If we have to pay shops for using a plastic bag, they should pay us to take away the wasteful pieces of paper they give us Grin

emms1981 · 23/06/2015 13:15

I have to hand out sea life centre vouchers at the moment if people spend over £5, I have been told a representative WILL be in store to check, and I MUST hand them out. However they take forever to print and most people don't want them, also the nearest one to us is about 3 hours drive away. We also have to try and sell chocolate on the till to every customer, also batteries, coffee, razors, cool boxes or dish washer tablets...... oh and we MUST try and get our min sale a fiver a time Hmm

emms1981 · 23/06/2015 13:17

working in retail is great ......

UterusUterusGhali · 23/06/2015 13:33

Sainsburys are the worst for this.

They give you SO MUCH FUCKING PAPER.

SevTSnape · 23/06/2015 13:46

WHSmith stores always look about 20 years old, the carpets are always worn in and the wood flooring super dirty. Everything is a mish mash of crap - the tills being the worst part.

I love books and stationary, but WHSmith needs to sort itself out.

meglet · 23/06/2015 13:50

@WHS_Carpet on twitter is fun. Our local store is as scruffy as the ones on there.

SevTSnape · 23/06/2015 14:04

omg meglet I've just wasted the last fifteen minutes on that twitter! Grin

MrsBojingles · 23/06/2015 15:42

YANBU them and Sainsburys with the 1 p off your next shop...

maninawomansworld · 23/06/2015 16:45

I just pick the receipt out of the wad of rubbish and leave the rest on the counter.
I also refuse to give my details unless they are needed, say to have a large item delivered or something like that.

ladymariner · 23/06/2015 17:01

Do people really get annoyed by this sort of thing? Can't you just shove it in the bag and ignore it if you don't want it????

Now, being asked if I want a store card, on the other hand, and being looked at as if I'm simple when I refuse is a different matter altogether!!!!!!!

Figmentofmyimagination · 23/06/2015 17:35

The nicest thing, just sometimes, is to spontaneously announce when paying, that you fancy some of their lovely chocolate, and then buy some as if it has just occurred to you. It is nice to see them smile... And it is very cheap - although the bars are unfeasibly large.

ByeFelicia · 23/06/2015 18:02

YANBU. Pisses me off each and every time.

JuneFromBethesda · 23/06/2015 18:39

Totally agree with OP, and with Mrs Ross and others - the little bits of paper are awful but I would forgive (as I do in Boots, where it doesn't bother me) if the shops were nicer. I used to love a mooch around WHSmiths years ago, now I can't stand it and only go in if I can't get whatever I'm looking for anywhere else. Signs and promotions and tat everywhere, it's like being hit over the head the minute you step over the threshold, and yet there still doesn't seem to be much worth buying. Horrible.

That said, I'm a soft touch and I like figment's idea of making the staff happy by buying whatever's on promotion. I might just do that next time I have to go in there. Although I still won't take the bloody vouchers Grin
