To get really upset when people talk to me and my dog

GeorgianaDevonshire · 19/06/2015 17:04

She's my first dog so I'm new to all things canine and might be PFD about this. I put on one of her collars and matching lead (we have quite a selection already!) and off we trot to the local park - poo bags at the ready.

Every day, EVERY flipping day, someone speaks to us.

"Nice day"
"Lovely dog"

Kids will point and say "big dog", their mums will say "yes, it is a big doggy". Men try to engage me in conversation and, if the weather's a bit nippy, you can bet your life some old bag will tell me my dog needs her coat on.

AIBU in just wanting to walk my dog without men trying to pick me up, kids and their parents pointing at us and old biddies making passive aggressive comments?

OK, I sort of get that...so you can talk about it in a more logical way because it's a dog and not a baby. But it totally went over my head and that sort of thing makes me feel a bit marginalised. I don't know why I care so much!!! It's only an internet forum. Must be the 3 hours sleep I had last night. Making me a bit twitchy.

Crocodopolis · 20/06/2015 09:12

some old bag

Charming.

Mehitabel6 · 20/06/2015 09:15

3 hours sleep would make anyone twitchy! I don't get half the stuff on here- I wouldn't worry. I only got that one because I always comment on the threads where people think it better for a baby to be in a sterile bubble rather than socialising. At one point I said that I would stick to chatting to people with dogs- they were friendly and easy going.

bunchoffives · 20/06/2015 09:48

YANBU

The other day some stupid old bat who looked half dead already came up to my pfd Cerberus and said "he looks like hard work, all those mouths to feed! It must be hell!"

Biatch! I mean what's it got to do with her if my gooorjuss boy is a bit overweight. He loves gnawing on his bones. But he has boundaries.

Arsenic · 20/06/2015 12:27

"he looks like hard work, all those mouths to feed!

Smile
hackmum · 20/06/2015 12:35

I think "PFD" is very good. Will remember that.

Totality22 · 20/06/2015 12:39

Gosh OP would you have a bitch about my 2.5 year who comments on every dog he passes? (he knows not to approach / touch or frighten them but he makes a comment about every single one he sees)

Talk about having your head up your own arse - I assume most men are actually commenting on your dog as opposed to trying to pick you up!!!

PacificDogwood · 20/06/2015 12:41

I have a PFD and love it when every single person we meet when out and about talks to us - he is gawjous after all

But then again I always liked it when random strangers commented on my new babies, so clearly I must be odd.

Aw, well.

Postchildrenpregranny · 20/06/2015 12:44

See MN thread on 'old dears' commenting on your baby ....

timefortiggy · 20/06/2015 12:50

God that cartoon is me!! How can they not think my dog is the cutest ever, how can they resist Grin

Signlake · 20/06/2015 12:51

You're unreasonable OP, sorry. I have a big dog too. We're forever getting lots of attention on walks. In the puppy days I felt like thanking every single person that came up to us to chat. Especially if they had a dog of their own with them. You didn't say how old your dog is but all these meetings are crucial to important socialization. The people you find annoying are actually doing you a favour

As for passive aggressive comments, ignore them. Unfortunately it's one of those things that come with having a larger breed dog. Though I'm sure people of smaller dogs have to deal with it too

We were out walking last week and went past a random man. Dog stayed by my side the whole time but was looking at him as we walked passed. Anyway he told me to "Keep that dog under control"

I told him the dog is under control and had kept to heel the entire time. He was on his lead too. There will always be idiots

luckygirl322 · 20/06/2015 15:40

I can't believe this post. YABVU. I may just be the old bag that speaks to you every day, too. I walk in the same area every day, and comment to dog walkers every day.

See you tomorrow!

Gruntfuttock · 20/06/2015 15:44

I can't believe that anyone has taken this thread seriously. It was started because of the threads complaining about 'old dears' daring to look at babies and talk to their mothers, that's all.

limitedperiodonly · 20/06/2015 15:52

I nearly fell for this Grin.

My cat likes to sit on the front step and be admired by passers-by. If I'm out there and people ignore him I get the rage on his behalf just like the cartoon SisterMoonshine posted on page 2.

BabyMurloc · 20/06/2015 15:54

Surely this is a joke? How dare people exchange plesentaries with you! If you want to be ignored wear headphones. Same goes for being on public transport/out in public in general.

Gruntfuttock · 20/06/2015 15:57

Oh FFS! Why do I bother?

Gruntfuttock · 20/06/2015 15:57

Yes, BabyMurloc it is indeed a joke. RTFT

GeorgianaDevonshire · 20/06/2015 15:58

BabyMurloc - if princesses can complain about old biddies looking at their PFBs and daring to speak to them, then I can ask that humans don't try to interact with me and my precious pooch.

Or you could just Read The Full Thread ...

I think you've managed to prove some clever and highly scientific about how much of a thread people actually read Georgiana

WhatALoadOfOldBollocks · 20/06/2015 17:45

"Have you thought of getting matching FUCK OFF Tshirts for you and the dog? You may find it helps."
LOL! That should helpGrin

Georgiana is PFD vaccinated? Fed on natural food?Wink

Ooh Ragged, you're looking well, dear. Lovely plumageGrin

Mehitabel6 · 20/06/2015 18:12

It is good for proving that people don't bother to read a thread before they comment.

I was just about to post exactly the same thing but then saw that, Arsenic.
Proving that at least I've RTFT. Wink

NewFlipFlops · 20/06/2015 19:45

Still hilarious, and quite interesting that people are still not RTFT.

Mehitabel6 · 20/06/2015 19:50

They don't even read the last post, never mind the thread!
