To get really upset when people talk to me and my dog

She's my first dog so I'm new to all things canine and might be PFD about this. I put on one of her collars and matching lead (we have quite a selection already!) and off we trot to the local park - poo bags at the ready.

Every day, EVERY flipping day, someone speaks to us.

"Nice day"
"Lovely dog"

Kids will point and say "big dog", their mums will say "yes, it is a big doggy". Men try to engage me in conversation and, if the weather's a bit nippy, you can bet your life some old bag will tell me my dog needs her coat on.

AIBU in just wanting to walk my dog without men trying to pick me up, kids and their parents pointing at us and old biddies making passive aggressive comments?

Don't worry OP. I'm sure people will leave you alone once they get to know you.

You are being utterly ridiculous.

Angria · 19/06/2015 17:11

Is this a wind them up and watch them go one?

lordsandladies · 19/06/2015 17:11

Erm. Ok then.

And Grin that all the men saying lovely dog are desperate to shag you.

OurGlass · 19/06/2015 17:12

What a fucking misery you are.

FirstWeTakeManhattan · 19/06/2015 17:12

Oh. A TAAT.

Marvellous.

NerrSnerr · 19/06/2015 17:12

Bloody hell. Is it taat day today?

SteelyMindedLiberal · 19/06/2015 17:12

Maybe if it was a cleverer joke more of us would have managed to get it.

IrianofWay · 19/06/2015 17:13

Oh and don't you just hate it when people try to TOUCH your dog or even...god forbid.... discipline them. Why can't everyone just leave you alone!!

Hmm
GeorgianaDevonshire · 19/06/2015 17:13

i just wish people would remember what it's like when you're settling your first dog in. You're tired and hormonal and just don't need random people making comments. Especially the old trouts who've had their turn at being young dog owners and should just keep their unsolicited advice to themselves.

I think the OP was joking. It read tongue in cheek to me. Ever the optimist

scarlets · 19/06/2015 17:14

Without wishing to generalise, some of those older folk will have little contact with other people day-to-day. It'd be nice if you exchanged a few friendly words, in case that's the situation.

insanityscatching · 19/06/2015 17:14

YABVU you could be helping your dog to socialise and making use of all the people who are being friendly. Our dog Eric is a sucker for a bit of fuss from anyone most likely because from his first weeks we encouraged him to be stroked and petted by anyone who wanted to stop. Have some treats along with the poop bags to reward him for positive interaction.

Gileswithachainsaw · 19/06/2015 17:15

i do this :( I love seeing dogs and so do my Dds. I always thought it was rude to admit the dog them not at least smile and say hello to the owner.

no pick up intended I just love dogs

SisterMoonshine · 19/06/2015 17:16

Ah, I see you're joking . But I do like this....

To get really upset when people talk to me and my dog
Theycallmemellowjello · 19/06/2015 17:16

Op sorry but you're coming across as kind of weird. No, using offensive terms is not a good way to erm fight the use of those offensive terms if that's what you're thinking.

Vagabond · 19/06/2015 17:16

Maybe don't give off such friendly vibes? You're obviously too approachable. ;)

What does taat mean?

BackforGood · 19/06/2015 17:17

YABVVVVVVU.

If it is a joke, as some people are suggesting, then it would only really work if we all knew about whatever it is you are mocking.

SpudCunt · 19/06/2015 17:17

That cartoon is so true Grin

Momagain1 · 19/06/2015 17:17

This is why I have cats. Indoor cats. So i can walk in peace. Wink

I thought it was well known that dogs attract attention, people get them specifically for that reason even.

My DS8 is still outgrowing a fear of dogs, so he and I wont talk to you. My DD28 still stops to pet most dogs, and talk to them, and maybe the dog's person too. Especially if it's a suitably aged male human with no visible wedding ring.

littlesupersparks · 19/06/2015 17:18

snort try having twins!! I empathise with your frustration but it's just people being nice!!!

Get a sign on your neck saying the Bitch is not the dog. Should work like a charm.

wankerchief · 19/06/2015 17:19

I walk the dogs in pyjamas, wear earphones and sing loudly

No fucker approaches me
