to wear my jammies at home?

Context: I'm a SAHM, 2 under 5, on playgroup, pre-school run & day out days, I dress smart. If we're having a home day getting messy baking & playing on the floor etc, I wear what I like to call my 'lounge outfit.' Grin essentially pj trousers & top. But, importantly I think, I have sets of pjs that I designate as lounge outfits & therefore never sleep in, so to me, they aren't pjs. Anyway, DM carefully suggested to me this morning that I should 'get dressed' so that I when answer the door I'm not in my pjs. She said staying in my pjslounge outfit all day sends the message that I don't care. My point is a. they aren't y pjs as I don't sleep in them and b. It's my house, I want to feel comfortable playing at home with my kids & I don't care what the postman thinks when I answer the door. AIBU? AIBSlovenly?!

I never ever get dressed unless I'm going somewhere! Do wear a bra tho as I find it uncomfortable not to

squoosh · 19/06/2015 14:53

I hate being bra-less. Unshackled bosoms is only comfortable for those with modest norks.

Doyouthinktheysaurus · 19/06/2015 14:53

Oh god yanbu, and I love my jammies and could happily live in them.

I work nights so spend half my week legitimately not getting dressed anyway and if I'm not going anywhere on the day before my nights I'll run, then get straight back in my pyjamas.

I do have yoga trouser things but I prefer my jammies, less hassle at bedtimeBlush

One of my dses spends most of his evenings in his onesie. He gets In From school and changes. I'm normally back in my jammies by teatime even on days I've dressed.

Thankfully my mum lives 120 miles away and knows nothing of my slovenlinessGrin

Sorry should clarify - Dr by profession, am on mat leave but not returning to work...I think DM may be worried I'll never wear a suit again ;)

I like the idea of superhero loungewear...

I don't get dressed unless I'm leaving the house.

What a waste of clothes & washing!

mileend2bermondsey · 19/06/2015 15:04

I always wear my pjs at home. When I was a kid if you were out of bed you had to be up showered and dressed nicely. My ExDP was the same and would get irritated if I didn't get changed all day, I cant really see what business it is of anyone elses. Every other day I spend 1.5 hours doing hair and make up (high maintainance hair style) so when I'm off I just want to chill.

Probably the post man thinks I'm a lazy slob when he gives a raised eyebrow and a 'sorry I woke you' at 2pm, but I couldn't really give a damn.

Socalled · 19/06/2015 15:05

Is your mother terribly over-invested in the prestige of her doctor daughter, or something?

Tell her you need some new 'at home' clothes for your next birthday and send her the Toast catalogue - there's a rather splendid Ikat bed jacket for £165 and a selection of hooded djellabas for £125.

mileend2bermondsey · 19/06/2015 15:05

I don't get dressed unless I'm leaving the house. What a waste of clothes & washing!

This 100%

Totality22 · 19/06/2015 15:11

I tend to have designated PJ's (in this weather its chemises and short / vest combo's I am a bit overweight so no visitor wants to see me in those!!), clothes I only wear round the house and going out clothes.

My 'house' clothes are generally my old going out clothes. So today I am in bobbly leggings and a top that has a small bleach stain on it... I could run to the shops in what I am wearing [it's a weeny bleach stain] but I wouldn't go out for the day in them. Nor will I sleep in them!

I always get the kids ready even if we are just staying in (unless poorly)

lornathewizzard · 19/06/2015 17:01

Another who very rarely gets dressed unless going out. And bra off for me. I could not give a monkeys what other people may think and DH can lounge about in trackies all he wants. Superhero Jammies are definitely the best type.

SaulGood · 19/06/2015 17:10

I'm failing to see the problem here.

It's just fabric fgs.

KatieScarlettreregged · 19/06/2015 17:10

Everyone in this house wears business dress all fecking day. Heels, suits, tights etc.
Everyone also wears pjs or joggers or yoga pants the second we get home.
These things are not unrelated.
No one is fat or lazy and if random strangers think it's bad they can kiss my arse.

Agrestic · 19/06/2015 17:12

I'm braless, pantless and in my pjs if I'm at home!

If I've gone out in the morning I'll get undressed changed when I'm home, I'd then get properly dressed again to go out, or just stay as I am until the morning! Blush

squoosh · 19/06/2015 17:17

Braless and pantless?

You're a brazen strumpet my girl.

VodkaJelly · 19/06/2015 17:43

I always put on a nice top and bra and my pj bottoms if I am not going out, if I do need to go out I just take my pj bottoms off and put my jeans on, then do the reverse when I get back in. I don't sleep in my pj,s either.

CrohnicallyAspie · 19/06/2015 18:05

I go for a onesie at home. It's not that my day clothes are uncomfy, but that my onesie is more comfortable. For a start there's no waistband so if I'm bloated there's nothing to press into my waist. And my onesie is just looser all round, less restrictive than tailored trousers or jeans. Plus it's made from fluffy and snuggly fabric!

FanFuckingTastic · 19/06/2015 18:18

I only wear clothes when I am going out.

I have several pyjama sets and nighties which are extra big and very comfortable, and I have some wire free bras to wear to give my back and shoulders a break from carrying all the boob weight.

I also have several sets of slippers, some sheepskin ones, and some extra soft ones.

I love my jammies, and I often get up and shower, then put on a fresh pair, as I did today.

My excuse (if I really need one, I don't think I do) is that I have allodynia, which is extreme sensitivity to touch, my right hip in particular and my shoulders. I need to wear really soft cotton trousers with a very loose waistband to be comfortable.

BettyCatKitten · 19/06/2015 18:22

I work nights so am in clothes at night and pj's in the day. I don't give a toss what anyone thinksGrin

jellybeans · 19/06/2015 19:31

When I am not going out I wear lounge pants or joggers and a fleece hoody. Sometimes a onesie. I never wear then in bed. I prefer the former as I can then answer the door. I am lazy and love lounging about but also it is more comfy, I have ibs and get very bloated. And also it keeps my going out clothes clean and makes them last longer and saves on ironing and washing.

jellybeans · 19/06/2015 19:33

P.S where do I get superhero loungepants Grin

WanderWomble · 19/06/2015 19:36

Personally, I do find it a bit odd that people on Mn so often post about coming home from work, tearing off their bras and/or their work clothes and putting on pyjamas 'because it's more comfortable' - what on earth are you wearing in the daytime that's so uncomfortable you can't go home and eat dinner in it?
---

I used to wear a uniform that was bloody uncomfortable. Itchy trousers and a stiff shirt. I used to change out of it at work! Also as a lady with 40K boobs, I can't wait to get out of my bra in the evening!

YANBU. Wear what you want and don't take any notice of people who try and tell you you shouldn't.

HeadDreamer · 19/06/2015 19:41

Your house your rule.

And why do I need to wear a bra? They are quite uncomfortable.
