I consider myself pretty clean and tidy but MIL has unearthed some areas that are obviously my blind spot this week:

  • freezer drawer in fridge (all frozen up)
  • washing machine drawer (not black but a couple of mouldy bits)
  • mop bucket (again not filthy but some ingrained dirt was in there)
  • bottom of cleaning cupboard floor
  • cobwebs in kitchen corners

Do you have any areas in which it never occurs to you to clean? I want to go check if I have more!

Under cushions and down sides of our leather settees. Now clean and won't be left for years again. Behind our superking bed - when we moved I was horrified at the thick dust on skirting and carpet. I do wipe handles and light switches usually just damp cloth and s bit of spray cleaner like I'd use on kitchen worktop.

shovetheholly · 19/06/2015 17:05

I always forget to do the washing machine filter. Then the washing machine starts groaning and thumping around the kitchen and I remember. Last time it contained

  • one 20p
  • one key
  • a handkerchief
  • assorted hairgrips
  • a twig
Sad

Just been inspired to clean the ensuite metal venetian blind for the first time - it was thick with dust.

ppeatfruit · 19/06/2015 17:36

There are special brushes for Venetian blinds aren't there dixie?

DontOpenDeadInside · 19/06/2015 17:43

I don't use my mop enough for the bucket to be dirty Blush
I bought a "sticky buddy" to get all the cat fur off my vertical blinds. Love it. Though need to rinse it about 5 times just for 1 window.

Kitchen now remodelled, but when moving the vast US style fridge freezer in preparation for this I found a dead mouse.
It had been there so long it was sort if dedicated.
The shame

SuburbanRhonda · 19/06/2015 17:48

I've dealt with it by lowering my standards.

You're my kind of person, felyne Smile

Nikkinoo77 · 19/06/2015 17:53

Wait...what? Washing machine filter????Shock

ppeatfruit · 19/06/2015 17:54

Love a dedicated mouse , dedicated to being deaded ? Grin

ppeatfruit · 19/06/2015 17:57

We had a boy in to feed our cats when we were away once, and one of them killled 3 mice in the space of less than a week and the darling boy left them on the rug in the hall to greet us when got in early in the morning. Grin

maker!!

SoldierBear · 19/06/2015 22:58

Lol! Was trying to type desicated but my phone had other ideas. Lethal mixture of predictive text and not wearing reading glasses.
The poor creature was dried out like a wee mummy.

AdoraBell · 20/06/2015 03:49

My Hoover is covered in dog hairs. Only at the bottom where the static attracts them. Top of the fridge and kitchen cupboards is out of my reach. DH is tall enough so it's a mystery why there's dust up there, really.

Under the sofas is looking a tad dodgy ATM and the bathroom that teenaged DDs use is grim and I only fucking cleaned it 2 days ago

Most of the rest is passable today and gets sorted fairly frequently.

steff13 · 20/06/2015 04:01

I haven't cleaned behind the fridge since we bought it two years ago. I only manage to clean the laundry room every six months or so.

Talismania · 20/06/2015 04:13

Under the couches, under the beds, behind The kitchen appliances,

Spermysextowel · 20/06/2015 04:31

When I had the house done I chose the most streamlined toilets that I could find. They stiil have that indentation that attracts dust of the nastiest kind. I ignore it until I have 'people' visiting.

Athrawes · 20/06/2015 04:42

Who cleans plugs? Seriously. There's a whole wide world out there to be explored.

editthis · 20/06/2015 06:03

I felt so proud that I've taken to cleaning the kitchen floor every week. People clean THE TOPS OF DOORS? Fuck.

notyounanbread · 20/06/2015 06:27

My mum was recovering from surgery and I went round for a visit. We were chatting generally and I commented that the insides of my windows were looking grubby and that I really must get round to cleaning them. She responded that no wonder they were dirty as she hadn't been able to do them for months with being ill. It turned out she'd been going round to my house and cleaning them for years. I thought windows just didn't need cleaning very often!

Alwayscheerful · 20/06/2015 07:40

Bar keepers friend will sort out all those nasty marks on light switches and plugs, also works on sinks and basins. £3.25 in Waitrose or £2.25 on offer. £2 in The Range. I have seen it in John Lewis too. It is a powder and very slightly abrasive but doesn't scratch.

ppeatfruit · 20/06/2015 09:31

Soldier I knew you meant dessicated but a dedicated mouse sounds sweet , we often find them about the place and they're not nice !

unlucky83 · 20/06/2015 09:55

thefils if I had a daughter old enough - I'd be your mum! (Fridge design is another of bugbears) but had to stop saying 'a man' cos DP is the only one in this house with a penis, feels outnumbered and gets a bit touchy!
And Inamay both are things I'd never have thought about when choosing a loo!! Flush is a bit rubbish too. I made sure I got one with a standard shaped bowl so I could easily get a replacement seat if I needed one and a big make so cistern parts should be easy to get (except they aren't, nor are they cheap!). Skids - wondering how on earth you can know before you buy - (without testing the display models in B&Q ...tempting Grin).
And spermy - my new one won't have the indents - cos I'll be on the look out for them ... but no doubt there will be something else I haven't thought of that is equally annoying (and pointless)!

Sunny67 · 20/06/2015 10:06

I'm another not behind the TV unit. It's a bloody wire jungle round there. If I set too with the vac I don't think it would ever work againBlush

Armi · 20/06/2015 12:04

I spent an absorbing half an hour so wiping the doors down the other day. I hadn't realised how much dust collects on panelled effect bits. I can see why flat doors were all the rage in the 1970s.
