To wear a bikini with a noticeable bump?

I'm currently pregnant and have booked a holiday in August with a friend. I'd love to wear a bikini as I'm not used to one-piece swimming costumes! Problem is many people seem to think that you should only show your belly off if it's as flat as a pancake!

Like previous poster, I live in a hot country and rocked a bikini with both pregnancies (and a week after the birth of the second one which was probably less than desirable but needs must)

Enjoy it!

Bishopston · 17/06/2015 20:34

Thanks Stroke - I'll also try and make it my goal to wear a week after the birth!!

I just hope my slim friend will be happy with me proudly exposing my heavily pregnant tummy on the beach!

As long as your comfy wear what you want.

I'm also in the rock your bump camp.

Scoopmuckdizzy · 17/06/2015 20:42

YANBU but make sure you keep applying sunscreen. I ended up with a very sunburned bump while pregnant with DS2 because I wasn't used to how sensitive my skin had become. Then I had sunstroke. It put a dampener on that holiday!

Bishopston · 17/06/2015 20:46

Oh no sorry to hear about that Scoop! I'm definitely going to apply loads of sunscreen.

I've also got a family barbecue in August - I'll use it as an opportunity to show off my bump! I'm definitely proud to be pregnant!

My outlook on it is: No matter how insecure you might feel about your body, there will always be someone who looks worse than you in a bikini! (I'm cringing at the thought of the fat, topless, middle-aged, hairy European women who lets it all hang out - there is one on every beach across the Costa del Sol)
I swam throughout my pregnancy and always wore a bikini :) - I went swimming the day before I gave birth, and by that time, I looked like a had swallowed a small hippo rather than the 6lb baby that was actually in there!
Do whatever makes you comfortable...screw everyone else! If people have an issue with it, politely inform them that you are busy cultivating an entire human, and don't have time for their shit!

Bishopston · 17/06/2015 20:50

Thanks emzii - wow I'm impressed ! Swimming a day before giving birth!

I wore a bikini swimming right up to 40 weeks. Someone once said I had a lovely bump, which was nice!

Chchchchanging · 17/06/2015 20:51

Wear with pride but a word of caution
I never sunburn
Last week in 25 degree not middle of day sun I got badly burned wearing factor 30 & 50 with plenty of water and then had 3 days of sunstroke so I'd enjoy weather but make sure you find shade!!

LittleMissRayofHope · 17/06/2015 20:51

Only time in my life I ever wore a bikini was when I was pregnant!
Wouldn't dare wear one now or in fact before as I felt a bit podgy pre pregnancy!

Go for it. A pregnant belly is beautiful!

Bishopston · 17/06/2015 20:55

I agree - a pregnant belly is beautiful!!- even though I look quite different now from the day I met my baby's Dad :/

Bishopston I am convinced all the swimming is what may have helped DD decide she was ready to come out...someone told me it helps loosen up your pelvis...don't know how true that is, but my waters broke that night!

Bishopston · 17/06/2015 21:07

emzii - I'll remember that tip for when my time comes! :)

Your friend has the perfect body?

When I was pregnant those were the ONLY times I felt my body was perfect. Instead of trying to 'suck it in' I was proud to stick it out!

Ledkr · 18/06/2015 07:53

I wore one with all mine.
By number 5 I was more inclined to wear one pregnant than not Grin

PurpleSwift · 18/06/2015 08:30

I've just been on holiday and I saw plenty of woman with baby bumps in bikinis. Totally fine

Mermaidhair · 18/06/2015 08:38

Anyone should be able to wear a bikini, as long as your privates aren't hanging out go for it!

morelikeguidelines · 18/06/2015 08:39

Yanbu . I always wore a bikini when preg as it's the easiest thing. I did take extra care with sunscreen on the bump though, although I'm not sure if it needs more than ordinary care.

This year I will wear bikini with somewhat "unrecovered " tummy.

I have to mix and match them though as the boob parts I bought when pregnant are all too big but I need the slightly more generous bottoms!

Fluffyears · 18/06/2015 08:45

If someone has a problem then it's their problem and not yours. I'd rather see a pregnant belly than a fat beer belly.

Bunbaker · 18/06/2015 08:51

Go for it. Besides, you will be weeing a lot more so a bikini will be far more practical than a one piece.

KnitFastDieWarm · 18/06/2015 08:53

WEAR IT! Grin pregnant tummies in bikinis are beautiful!

I wore a bikini a few weeks ago at 16 weeks pregnant, I'm a size 16 and have a bump that still could pass for 'I've eaten a burrito the size of my head' rather than a baby Wink - and I felt bloody brilliant.

My mum is 57 and a size 22, has the tummy of a woman who has carried two big babies, undergone an emergency c-section, and enjoys a pint Grin and she still wears a bikini on the beach and looks bloody gorgeous, simply because she does not give one shiny shit about what anyone thinks.

It's ALL about attitude.

KnitFastDieWarm · 18/06/2015 08:54

^^
THIS! (18 weeks and am currently pissing like a racehorse every 15 minutes Angry)

Bishopston · 18/06/2015 11:35

Thanks Bunbaker I didn't think about the weeing aspect of it but yes, - MUCH more practical.

Yes my friend has got a 'classically slim' figure but since being pregnant I love having bigger boobs and a growing belly!

Practically all my weight gain seems to be going on my 'tum' so by the end of August I expect to have a huge bump!! I'm hoping to wear more crop tops at that time as well.

Bishopston · 18/06/2015 12:25

Another good thing about wearing a bikini while pregnant - apart from the convenience when weeing - is being able to lie on the beach and watch the movements in your belly!

I wore a bikini and no issues. I looked at maternity cozzies and they were so awful, I stuck with usual bikini. DH was somewhere hot...with his submarine. So I was there round the pool with all the other guys too. Grin
