Raif Badawi: Saudi Arabian blogger to be flogged again tomorrow.

Posting here for traffic. Many of us have heard of 31 yr old father-of -three Raif Badawi who was sentenced to ten years in prison and 1,000 lashes in his native Saudi Arabia last May. His crimes were to criticise his government via the Internet. He was flogged 50 times on January 9nth this year and his further, weekly, floggings have been postponed since then partly due to international outrage and partly due to the fact that further lashings may kill him.

The Saudi government propose to flog Raif again tomorrow. If you are concererned then please tweet the Saudi embassy as soon as possible; all the details are available on the Amnesty International website, sorry I don't know how to link. Please help.

An update on this situation because the stay was only for last Friday initially (the sentence of an additional 950 lashes still stands).

Badawi's wife Ensaf Haidar wrote in a letter on 17 June, "I have pleaded and would like to reiterate my plea to His Majesty King Salman, Saudi Arabia's ruler, to pardon Raif and stop his flogging" .

She said that she remains optimistic and will "continue pleading until the last moment."

"The only real chance to have him [Badawi] freed would be a royal pardon by King Salman," said Amnesty spokesperson Nicolas Krameyer, adding that Ramadan offers a good opportunity to do so.

Forgiveness is central theme of the month-long holy celebration of fasting. In some of his teachings in the Quran, the Prophet Muhammad explains that the month is broken into three parts — mercy heads up the beginning of the month, forgiveness the middle weeks, and freedom at the end.

"....most Western governments - the UK included - have stayed shamefully silent in the face of brutality. So the international outcry to save Raif Badawi from what could amount to a death sentence will fall again to ordinary people, not Prime Ministers or Presidents.

On social media people are voicing their concern through a new campaign, launched this week, using the hashtag #backlash.

Many are using Twitter to contact Saudi embassies (in the UK, that is @SaudiEmbassyUK), asking them to halt the flogging and release Badawi immediately.

Justice should not have to be sought via social media. But, right now, that might be his last hope."
