To love hanging the washing out in the middle of the night?

Knowing it will be nearly dry by morning.
Both kids in bed, asleep.
Nobody mowing their lawns.
So quiet and peaceful.
Also, as I generally wear just a t-shirt, it gets a bit cold. And I know that I can jump straight into my bedto warm up.,

Oh wagglebee, I am imagining how heavenly your Washing smells at this time of year, with gorse out and a salty tang. I'm very envious

F475LAG · 11/06/2015 09:36

I wouldn't hang the washing out at night, spiders! but it was surprisingly lovely hanging it out at 5.00 this morning. It's not a time that usually exists for me but DH needed a lift to the station to catch the first train so I was awake and the washing needed hanging. Such a beautiful morning and everything smelled all fresh and lovely. Then I went back to bed and snoozing for three more hours. Grin

mindthegap79 · 11/06/2015 09:36

Why on earth would it be musty? Air is no less fresh at night! Not around here, anyway. I often hang mine out the evening before as I don't have time before rushing off to work at the crack of dawn. Or on weekends, if I put it out the evening before, I like to lie in and think smugly of my washing getting all the sunshine before I get up.

murphys · 11/06/2015 09:43

Why is everyone worried about spiders.... there are spiders around in the day too.....

They aren't all nocturnal Wink

ElsieMc · 11/06/2015 09:47

I live out in the country and iHAVE's post sounds absolutely lovely. Unfortunately leaving my laundry out overnight often results in my getting into bed in cow dung scented sheets or worse judging from the farmer's recent prosecution for spreading human waste.

WhyCantIuseTheNameIWant · 11/06/2015 12:22

Well, the washing was lovely and dry after the school runs.
I can't see any evidence of it having been darked on!
No spiders.
A job well done.
And I still love the quiet evenings, knowing dcs are sleeping happily in their beds.

I often hang my washing the night before if no rain forecast. It never has wildlife in it the next say, never smells bad or gets soaking wet. It might get darked on, but I don't know what that is, so I don't mind.

StarOnTheTree · 11/06/2015 12:33

Your washing will get 'darked on' Grin

I often put washing out at night, no problem at all with it drying or getting spiders on it Hmm

MrsHathaway · 11/06/2015 13:08

Spiders are indeed around all the time ::sob:: but they spin at night. If I use my line two days in a row it's noticeably webby in the morning even if it wasn't when the last load went in at dusk.

I bet you don't even make sure all the pegs on a garment match.

SabrinnaOfDystopia · 11/06/2015 13:26

But the bogeyman might get you Shock

KingTut · 11/06/2015 13:30

Op I do that sometimes too. I have never heard the darker on saying.

listsandbudgets · 11/06/2015 13:34

op I do the same especially at this time of year. Never had a spider problem.

I did find a bumble bee in my pyjama trousers the other day though - thankfully before i put them away but that washing was hung up in the morning.

Topseyt · 11/06/2015 13:42

I sometimes do this too. Not in winter, but at this time of year.

I like it and it saves a job in the morning when we are all trying to get out to work or school.

Comingfoccacia · 11/06/2015 13:46

I always used to until someone told me that it was bad feng shui to leave wet clothes outside in the dark! And I haven't done it since though I do love hanging it out first thing in the morning.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 11/06/2015 13:47

If you put it out at night what about the morning dew?Confusedwouldn't it be wetter than when you put it out?Grin

GobblersKnob · 11/06/2015 13:47

I put it out all the time at night, great time to hang out any fading blacks, getting dark on them sorts them right out.

I leave stuff out in winter for days, it dries eventually, sometimes it gets rained on and dries again (sometimes more than one).

Ihavegottheclap · 11/06/2015 13:53

YABU. That's really odd. I don't know why, it just makes me feel a bit odd.

Plus, I'm concerned about the fact you're outside in the middle of the night in just a T-shirt with your fanjo hanging out Wink

Kittykatmacbill · 11/06/2015 13:59

Bleauh - it will be all foosty in the morning. Hanging it in your running gear at 0630 in the morning on the other hand... mega virtuous and dry just a quick!

reni1 · 11/06/2015 14:38

I thought I was the only one doing this, of course late at night is the time to do it.

GobblersKnob · 11/06/2015 14:40

It's not all 'foosty' (though that is a great word) in the morning Grin, once the weather gets hot it is often dry in the morning and you can put another lot out.

WhenSheWasBadSheWasHorrid · 11/06/2015 14:44

Yanbu

I do this all the time, I'm sure my neighbour think I'm bonkers. Never had a musty smell or spider issue yet.

Pengweng · 11/06/2015 14:46

Ooh Spilly I love that you say fusty! No one else knows what i'm bloody talking about.
I don't leave my washing over night but I do set the washing machine to finish around 7am so I can peg it out straight away and get two loads out before lunch.
I did notice my neighbour hanging her washing out the other night and thought it was a bit weird but each to their own. : )

WhyCantIuseTheNameIWant · 11/06/2015 14:56

All my garments are indeed peg-matched.
As all my pegs are wooden, it's an easy job!
I think the poor bogey man would be lost in the weeds and toys in our back garden.
In the quiet of a secluded back garden, one of the advantages is some nice fresh air under my t-shirt. Nobody can physically overlook my garden. It's great.

Glad I am not the only one who does it!

I've never considered this before and have just put some washing in. depending on when I put it out and how dry it is tonight, I might just try it.
