re abbreviations: "DH" isn't compulsory on MN. If he's being an arse you can just say H

same for husband or wife - you can just say H or W if they don't deserve the D.

If your partner is being a total cunt, just call them P. No need to put " around the "D".

It's OK - we will all understand.

BF can be either best friend or boy friend though so it can be worth clarifying.

I'm a childminder and so quite often click on CM threads.

Many a time have I opened one to find out I am indeed cervical mucus today. Confused

lilacblossomtime · 09/06/2015 06:55

We could use DMNHQ if we want something Flowers

youareallbonkers · 09/06/2015 07:05

I'd go one further and say stop using the D at all. All that time wasted

TealFanClub · 09/06/2015 07:06

I've seen people use it on Twitter. It looks stupid.

TealFanClub · 09/06/2015 07:06

I disagree it's all over th Internet. Maybe parenting websites

NobodyLivesHere · 09/06/2015 07:19

I have a friend who refers to her ex-husband as exdh, I find that weird and annoying.

TheCowThatLaughs · 09/06/2015 07:31

I've seen Dhamster in the past, which I found a bit much tbh

happygirl87 · 10/06/2015 08:02

I have previously waxed lyrical on the fact that ILs are only ones who don't get the "D" prefix and are also the ones people traditionally/typically have the hardest relationship with- I think it's a type of nominative determinism...and I prob need to get out more.

Trills · 10/06/2015 08:17

I don't read DH as dear/darling/whatever at all, just as "My husband".

DD3 is certainly better than "my third-youngest daughter"

YABU to think that the prefix is read as meaningful by the majority of posters.

KanyesVest · 10/06/2015 08:19

I get the DH/DS/DD ones but like others, outside that it just gets confusing, especially when posters start randomly inserting abbreviations. I had to read an op three times yesterday to figure out if the poster was referring to her children's Grandparents (GP), doctor (GP) or guinea pig (GP). Although I probably should have dismissed the guinea pig based on the lack of "D" Confused
