I fancy him something rotten. I can hardly watch the show. When I see women talking to him I know that they are falling in love with him and not even listening to what he is saying. He is absolutely gorgeous.

YABU. I just googled him - yuck! Grin
Each to her own though, OP!

SunshineAndShadows · 31/05/2015 01:59

A nice article outlining why informed and educated dog behaviourists in the UK and USA disagrre with CMC methods
m.petmd.com/blogs/fullyvetted/2009/march/why-veterinary-behaviorists-cant-stand-cesar-millan-6741
Sadly actual science is less popular on TV than dog-behaviour-voodoo and so CN will remain popular with the general public Sad

SunshineAndShadows · 31/05/2015 02:00

CM obviously - bloody autocorrect!

ShakesBootyFlabWobbles · 31/05/2015 02:17

Someone better let North Shore Animal League America,The Pet Savers Foundation and Yale University’s School of the 21st Century know how shit he is Sunshine as their Mutt-i-grees programme is being developed with CM and is funded by The Millan Foundation by the tune of $1million (may make OP want to shag him more mind)

www.yale.edu/21C/about_muttigrees.html

Send them your link sunshine they need to know what they are getting themselves into. They can give the money back too.

ShakesBootyFlabWobbles · 31/05/2015 02:25

...and send the link here too, I mean, were the International Association of Canine Professionals sniffing glue when they awarded CM into their hall of fame?

www.canineprofessionals.com/international-hall-of-fame

Then again, you know what Abraham Lincoln said... "Never believe what you read on the internet."

PrincessGeorge · 31/05/2015 02:31

I thought he'd died ... Now I have to figure out who I confused him with.

Decanter · 31/05/2015 02:31

Hahahahaha. I just googled him Grin

BrowersBlues · 31/05/2015 02:32

I still want to shag him about the same as I did before I knew he was affiliated with Yale.

OP posts:
jigglywiggly · 31/05/2015 02:41

I like him, but certainly don't fancy him! He's all yours OP. I will buy a hat in anticipation!

bluesbaby · 31/05/2015 03:04

You're not talking about the guy who literally whispers to his dog, with amazing discipline? sean sarantos the body builder from anaheim? Because he's a fittie !

KoalaDownUnder · 31/05/2015 03:34

To be fair, Shakes, I'm not sure that American institutions taking money from him to promote his methods really proves anything about the validity of said methods.

Not that I know enough about what he does to have an opinion one way it another. I do know he's controversial.

Stanky · 31/05/2015 03:42

I like him. He rescued and loved all of those aggressive dogs when no one else would, and gave them a good life.

AdoraBell · 31/05/2015 03:49

Sunshine serious question, how does someone who does what CM does with dogs achieve what ShakesBooty pointed out, having all Those dogs together in a small-ish space getting along so calmly¿

ShakesBootyFlabWobbles · 31/05/2015 04:23

I appreciate your point Koala. I am not a superfan by any stretch, I just had a five minute Google after reading Sunshine's link to see if it was all doom and gloom on t'internet about CM as I do quite like his show. But it isn't all bad out there. There is a US Dog Behaviour University that has awarded him an honorary degree (not without some bad press from certain academics though). I don't think his methods are THE method (emphasis of the singular, not shouting); just one of several on offer.

I know some people find him controversial. I can't say I do particularly. I think his technique of energy matching is fairly sound, and similar energy matching techniques are taught in human soft skills courses too. CM often doesn't have to say a word or touch dogs, he just uses his energy to convey a message.

If a highly aggressive dog goes for you, you are hardly likely to get it to stop by saying sit sternly; you are going to have to defend yourself robustly in the moment. Doesn't mean you are going to behave like that with all dogs in all situations. If you encounter aggressive dogs regularly, people will see you dealing with 'the moment' and may think that it is how it always is.

When my young DD was attacked by a large dog on the street my husband had to drag it off, getting bitten in the process. He had to be fairly robust in the 'moment' too. Is he a dog hating aggressive bully? No, he loves dogs but wouldn't hesitate to use such necessary force should the same situation happen again (heaven forbid).

Anyway, I am no dog behaviour expert but there are a Canine Organisations, Animal Charities and some Universities that are involved with CM and appear to support him. There are some canine experts and animal behaviour experts that don't. I expect when you are that successful in any career path, you will pretty much always experience this reaction.

Apologies for going off piste OP, which is about your lust fest after all.

ShakesBootyFlabWobbles · 31/05/2015 04:29

PrincessGeorge there was a viral internet hoax a year or two ago saying that he had died so probably is the same person you are thinking of.

alrayyan · 31/05/2015 06:23

You are going to regret this when the dog house lot get here Wink

A guy in my compound uses this, he has a really well behaved saluki but he puts a 10th back pack on it every night so it can't walk beside him because he is pack leader. This beautiful dog doesn't need dominating or bullying, I have him every summer for 6 weeks and he is a sweet gentle soul with a bed chewing habit. It breaks my heart. The owner is a primary special needs teacher.

Maybe CM is successful in certain specific and complicated situations but he shouldn't be applied to normal ownership. I think he is a dangerous, cruel and cowardly bully.

alrayyan · 31/05/2015 06:24

10kg

RavioliOnToast · 31/05/2015 07:01

before I googled him, I was picturing the bounty hunter guy Blush

alrayyan · 31/05/2015 07:01

and actually I would question why we want to rescue aggressive dogs? I appreciate that humans made them so but I strongly believe that there are too many unwanted dogs in the world already. I have lived abroad in various animal unfriendly places such as India and Saudi, still in ME now and am on my 70 something foster heee. Some of these have been nervous and suspicious. Some have been dangerously aggressive. I have no shame in being involved in the.pts of aggressive dogs.

I run a home overpopulated with dogs, cats, birds, odd monkey and sugar glider etc and don't have a pack or hierarchy other than the literal pecking order. We have kindness, positivity and sharp voiced NO for really naughty stuff like huskies counter surfing. It works, it's calm and nobody got their throat squeezed until their tongue went blue.

DartmoorDoughnut · 31/05/2015 07:08

Yabu he's a twat. Happy to help!

Alisvolatpropiis · 31/05/2015 07:13

He seems very short? I'm not sure if this is actually correct or not, i'be only seen him alone in photographs.

I used his puppy training book with my dog when we first got her, seemed really good. Flicked through his adult training book some time later and was a bit Hmm about it. Didn't buy it.

Alisvolatpropiis · 31/05/2015 07:13

Adult dog that is, as far as I know Mr Milan has not branched out into training humans.

SunshineAndShadows · 31/05/2015 10:57

I assume that those organisations support him because he's charismatic and has a strong media presence, asnone of them are animal behaviour organisations so I'm not sure how they support his credentials?

His methods have been discredited by all reputable dog behaviour organisations such as the UK's APBC (the governing body for qualifiedanimal behaviourists) www.apbc.org.uk/APBC_Continues_to_Challenge_Cesar_Millan

Organisations mentioned above such as the 'international association of canine professionals' are meaningless so I wouldn't take their recommendations seriously.

Fear-based training can be very effective at getting dogs to do what you want which is why he appears successful - but it is very psychologically damaging - why would you want your dog to be terrified of you? Because of his methods he's banned from working in Germany as he has no behaviour qualifications and his methods contravene their animal welfare legislation. His programmes are also heavily edited and his failures are not shown

QueefOfTheDamned · 31/05/2015 11:01

Someone who chokes digs til they pass out and punches and kicks them into submission floats your boat? Alrighty then Hmm

You can occasionally find the video evidence if this online but his shit hot legal team are very good about making sure only CM approved material stays available. Everything else gets taken down under threat of lawsuits.

SunshineAndShadows · 31/05/2015 11:08

This article by a qualified veterinary behaviourist debunks a lot of Cesar's methodology and also explains some of the apparent 'success' e.g groups dogs together as mentioned by a PP
drsophiayin.com/philosophy/dominance

And this article outlines why a lot of professional organisations challenge his training methodology - its flawed and unscientific - content.time.com/time/health/article/0,8599,2007250,00.html

Basically he's not supported by any reputable animal behaviour or veterinary organisation because he's not a behaviourist - he's a fear-based trainer who makes good TV shows.
