To give my dinner guests a take away?

Oh God. I had a beautiful meal planned for my neighbours tonight; slow cooked beef rump in a lovely sauce.

Forgot to turn the shitting slow cooker on before I left the house this morning Sad I fully burst into tears in front of a bemused DH. I am actually stupid. I was so looking forward to it.

It's half an hour before they get here (only just in from work) so there is no time to make something else. I'm going to be the subject of one of those awful dinner party threads, I just know it.

There's no other food in, not shopping day until tomorrow.

It's beans on toast or takeaway. DH is brightly brandishing Indian takeaway menus and saying we'll just pay for a big Indian.

Is this ok? I feel so sorry for my neighbours, they've organised one of their mums to babysit and looking forward to this!

Completely fine as you're paying! Enjoy.

3littlefrogs · 29/05/2015 20:03

I would not be the least bit offended.
A takeaway is a treat in our house.

Open a couple of bottles of wine and enjoy minimum effort and washing up.

TidyDancer · 29/05/2015 20:03

I would love this. I don't think you have anything to worry about. Have a lovely evening!

3littlefrogs · 29/05/2015 20:07

I used to look after my elderly (very posh, but lovely) neighbours.
I would frequently cook for them, but this particular evening I had been really busy, so I suggested that I order and bring over a takeaway.

They were thrilled and we all sat down to a beautifully set table and a couple of bottles of cabernet sauvignon. Grin

It was a very nice evening.

OberonTheHopeful · 29/05/2015 20:11

I would be well chuffed if I was one of your guests :)

StepAwayFromTheEcclesCakes · 29/05/2015 20:12

wouldn't bother me but tbh I would probably stick it in the microwave for a blast then bung it in the oven to finish and drink a gallon of wine with nibbles and chat until it cooked. enjoy though Smile

LoveVintage · 29/05/2015 20:15

Ooh yes, an Indian followed by an Easter egg for pudding. Fab.

Seriously, get a glass of wine in their hands, put out some nibbles, order takeaway. Have a lovely evening.

gamerchick · 29/05/2015 20:15

Ah can I come, I could murder an Indian Grin

Stick the slow cooker on before you go to bed and have beef tomorrow.

FantasticRik · 29/05/2015 20:21

An Indian, good friends and some wine sounds like a perfect evening to me OP.

I really, really want a curry now...

SueBigFatSue · 29/05/2015 20:22

Check with your neighbours what their fave takeaways but yes, I would love this! At least it's not your food being judged as well Wink

ilovemargaretatwood8931 · 29/05/2015 20:25

I would also love this. My favourite food ever is Indian takeaway. I'd probably be secretly pleased to have it rather than a high quality, lovingly home cooked meal... Enjoy!

JemFinch · 29/05/2015 20:28

I have a set d friends who by their own admission, can't cook. We go there for dinner and it's a take away, they pay for it. Always great evenings, no one stuck in the kitchen, minimal cleaning up. Perfect dinner party!

And the bonus is you get the beef tomorrow:)

Valsoldknickers · 29/05/2015 20:31

I posted about the same a few weeks ago asking whether takeaway would be acceptable for visitors.

After advice from the wise M'Netters I went with it and it turned out to be a lovely relaxing evening! Nobody batted an eyelid and everyone got exactly what they wanted to eat.

londonrach · 29/05/2015 20:36

King would love an easter egg for desert. Op just get takeaway your guests will love it. Enjoy.

HopOnTheMonnerBus · 29/05/2015 20:39

Oh op I feel for you, I'd have cried too.

Indian however is my favourite food so I'd be very happy with that, just don't order stuff to share, nothing worse than only a bit of your favourite because everyone else is digging in. Let them order what they want.

Stitchintime1 · 29/05/2015 20:41

An Indian takeaway and an Easter egg. No wine though Beer. Kingfisher beer. I so want to come.

londonrach · 29/05/2015 20:43

Op can i come please...sounds a perfect evening..

Iwasbornin1993 · 29/05/2015 20:44

I'd love this, sounds like a fab Friday night!

FantasticRik · 29/05/2015 20:44

Shall we gatecrash Stitch?

WinterOfOurDiscountTents15 · 29/05/2015 20:45

God yeah, totally fine. Just make sure you order a few different things so everyone is happy, and have some booze. It'll be a funny story in no time Wink

Stitchintime1 · 29/05/2015 20:45

Definitely. I've got my coat on. I'll pick you up. I do hope there's sag aloo and some tandoori prawns.

Summerisle1 · 29/05/2015 20:46

YANBU. I'd be very happy with a takeaway. In fact I could polish off a curry right now!

Reminds me of the time when we invited two friends over for dinner and, mysteriously, they just didn't show up. This was back in the days before mobile phones and they'd just moved house and were waiting for a landline to be installed. Hence no way of getting in touch quickly. We were a bit surprised but in the end, ex-h and I simply ate the rather tasty casserole I'd made for two days running.

Thought nothing more of it really until the following Friday evening when I was doing some nicely grubby gardening and ex-h tinkering about with his motor bike. To say we were looking scruffy was an understatement. Suddenly our friends arrived, nicely turned out, bearing a couple of bottles of wine and clearly expecting dinner. We never did get to the bottom of which of us had got the dates wrong but the Chinese takeaway was blimmin' lovely and definitely just as good (if not better) than the previous week's lovingly home-cooked offering!

3littlefrogs · 29/05/2015 20:47

Oh yes - only kingfisher with Indian. Smile

Koalafications · 29/05/2015 20:49

I would prefer this, I hate eating other people's food Blush

3littlefrogs · 29/05/2015 20:49

We are having fish and chips and a glass of white this evening. Grin
I am so hungry I have eaten most of the olives and DH isn't home yet. Blush (Lidl olives stuffed with almonds - yum)
