I last bought one in a French supermarket for £40 and it needs replacing

£170 on JL!!!

I can't believe anybody would pay that.

I used my Le Creuset almost every day, although did arrange one artfully when we had our house on the market. Don't think it made any difference, though.

Koalafications · 27/05/2015 21:48

There's a Le Creuset shop in Bicester Village and there's about 20% off.

I got a casserole dish from the IL's for Christmas, can't believe they spent that much money! I do love it though.

PattiODoors · 27/05/2015 21:49

God I love mine. As a pp above I brought back from La France decades ago.

Look out for them on amazon, sometimes they have £££ off.

Use mine more than once weekly, best thing ever. I even bake my bread in it. #ponce

LBOCS · 27/05/2015 21:51

Our local TK Maxx always has loads of them in.

TheOneWiththeNicestSmile · 27/05/2015 21:52

I've got 2 - a large round one in yellow (bought over 30 years ago from a shop called Abbode in Accrington which seems to have vanished Sad It cost about £50 I think) & a larger oval one in brown which cost peanuts in a French supermarket about 25 years ago.

Every time I go to France I look in supermarkets & the prices do seem to get sillier Hmm - if they're smashing their moulds every time, no wonder!

They are good though. Mine are gradually getting darker & darker inside, esp the larger one which gets used for stews etc a lot more, but they still scrub up ok

Tapasfairy · 27/05/2015 21:52

Good lord, just checked my other pans and I have a paella type and they sell for £170.

I have quite a few I bought at least ten years ago. I use them daily and they do still look fab. But the prices??

TwelveLeggedWalk · 27/05/2015 21:54

Another vote for TK Maxx, although I actually bought a slightly less bulky style from another manufacturer there (something vaguely Scandi sounding..) and although it probably won't last 20 years it does the job just fine for under £20.

Seriously. They too heavy to use. Ive just sold my mils as she or i didnt get with them.

User543212345 · 27/05/2015 22:00

They're horrible things. I can cope with the saucepans but am on the verge of throwing my frying pans in the bin as I can't lift them with one arm (and I'm strong).

If anyone in SW London wants a blue one of these with a glass lid PM me, it's about to go to landfill.

londonrach · 27/05/2015 22:07

Sweary they sell really well on gumtree, local fb page. Mil and i couldnt lift the dam things so sold all hers so she could buy some lighter ones with the money. Cant see hy anyone like them but had people queuing up to buy them...

Notso · 27/05/2015 22:09

I've got an ancient orange set my Mum and Dad had as a wedding present. I don't really see what's so good about them. The casseroles I make in my other dishes taste exactly the same as the le creuset ones and I don't risk injury lifting them out of the oven.

vpillow · 27/05/2015 22:09

They last forever. We had a full set as wedding presents nearly 30 years ago, use them daily and they are still in near-perfect condition.

mineofuselessinformation · 27/05/2015 22:10

Sweaty, if I lived anywhere near you I'd be round like a shot!
I love LC - I have a couple of casseroles and a small frypan from the days when I had money...
I now have a complete set of volcanic saucepans too thanks to ebay (and a stand to put them in). Casseroles come up at good prices too.
Yes they're heavy, but will last forever.

IvyBean · 27/05/2015 22:10

They are heavy which is why I only have the casserole.

I can't live without the casserole, use it all the time.

Will check out some of these suggestions.

My mother has the entire range from ramekins up. Starting to think stuff the jewellery on inheritance, the Le Crueset will be worth fighting dsis over more.< joke>Grin

£170!! Shock

I have one in the kitchen cupboard and then found another I'd forgotten about when I was clearing out the utility room. Both bought on Amazon for less than half price about 10 years ago. I've also got a set of saucepans, 2 stoneware oven dishes and a frying pan. All bought in sales over the years. Guess I can always pawn them if times get hard.

JillBYeats · 27/05/2015 22:11

They are very heavy empty let alone full of your delicious casserole....I have a few - mainly because my mum bought them and now finds them too heavy to carry about the kitchen! It would put me off buying new ones.

mineofuselessinformation · 27/05/2015 22:11

Oops! Grin Sweary, not sweaty. Bloody autocorrect.

SodiumReindeer · 27/05/2015 22:12

£170!!!! Mine went in the bin, DH left a casserole in it and forgot to bin it before we went on a 3 week holiday and refused to clean it. We had words.....

emotionsecho · 27/05/2015 22:14

I was given two Le Creuset casserole dishes as a wedding present, the person who gave them went over to France to buy them. The dishes (and the marriage!) are still going strong after more than 25 years!

If you could work out cost per use then the price doesn't seem quite so excessive.

Pipbin · 27/05/2015 22:17

I got my set for free about 15 years ago.
I worked in a department store and we only opened Sundays over Christmas. We got store credit if we worked every Sunday. I used mine and my discount to get a 3 pan, frying pan and casserole set.
I gave the pans away.…

Bababing1 · 27/05/2015 22:23

We've had the ikea version of the big oval casserole dish for yrs and we find it really good quality. Very reasonably priced.

NeedsAsockamnesty · 27/05/2015 22:26

The do not last forever if you drop them. Feet are usually none to chuffed about this

londonrach · 27/05/2015 22:27

Got a jl casserole dish which is lighter than lc, cost less and the food certainly tastes very good. Looks like new. Mil has same one 40 years ago and looks the same as day bought. Remember these arent lc as we find them too heavy but cheaper lighter ones..
