Usually I manage to have

my purse
nappies
wipes
keys
a couple of random toys

What else should I always carry and not take out of my bag and leave on the kitchen worktop.

if you have got pants on and your shoes match consider it a victory Grin

Purplepoodle · 27/05/2015 21:02

Change of clothes, bibs, drink

Lollypop27 · 27/05/2015 21:02

I can't remeber what you need for small children but I do remeber always forgetting things. I sorted it by every time I came home I would restock the changing bag with nappies, wipes, snacks etc so it was ready to go. I even went as far as having another key cut just to keep in the changing bag.

TheFirstOfHerName · 27/05/2015 21:03

What you've listed, plus:
Tissues
Calpol sachets
Nappy sacks
Water
Snacks
Emergency spare clothing items (for them)

A lot of patience
Low expectations

Worked for me when I had 3 under 3

mistbecomingrain · 27/05/2015 21:03

I have a list of essentials - I keep it in my change bag - and every night I make sure everything is in the bag and ready to go

I also bring
Coins for parking the car
Change of clothes - if needed for accidents
Nappy bags
Snacks / drinks for children
Soothers?
Depending on the weather - Sun hats / sun cream or rain gear

theowlandthebear · 27/05/2015 21:05

A small but fairly decent first aid kit. I have a Thomas the tank engine one and have added my own bits as it is a bit crap otherwise.

Other than that I don't carry much more than you do, I have a swiss army knife on my key ring which is really useful (and legal, I checked).

On a slightly more organised day I might have tissues, hand sanitizer, lip balm, pocket sized sun screen and rain coats.

...and bubbles if we are going out for the day.

GoldfishCrackers · 27/05/2015 21:10

Emergency trousers: a pair with an elasticated waist that could be rolled up if need be and fit either one of the 3 DCs. Saves carrying around 3 outfits.

KindergartenKop · 27/05/2015 21:11

I have 2 but...
Nappies
Wipes
Nappy bags
Change of clothes
Drink
Bottles for baby
Maybe a small toy for the big one

MrsClueless · 27/05/2015 21:12

Snacks to use as bribes, nappies, wipes, change of clothes, water bottles. Anything else and you run the risk if being overloaded!

IPlayBass · 27/05/2015 21:12

I always carry a drink for them and maybe a little snack like some raisins. And suncream and a hatfif the weather's nice or looks like it might brighten up.

Marshy · 27/05/2015 21:14

Swiss army knife - theowlandthebear you get the prize for being the most prepared Grin

Stopandlook · 27/05/2015 21:16

Bless you. I have managed to not bring my purse and caught short without wipes many a time. Have also driven off without buggy. So sounds like you're doing well!

However to be more helpful, plasters in the purse come in useful. Chocolate buttons for emergency bribery when your toddler hides in a bush.

maddening · 27/05/2015 21:17

Depends - what age? In nappies? Potty training? Any chance of emergency outfit that would fit 2 or more dc?

How long you will be out? Eg snacks, drinks - if under 1 feeding - eg ff will need bottles and formula - will there be facilities and water for example? (Bf myself so don't know how much etc)

Where are you going? Eg outdoor wear sun screen & hats or rain gear

Do you need cash where you are going with no chance of cash points?

BlackeyedSusan · 27/05/2015 21:19

all three children would be a success!

nappies, nappy sacks, wipes, mat, something to clean your hands. spare clothes for each. (preferably something that could be used on two of the three to save weight, eg cardi or tshirt)

bibs, sippy cups, milk supplies, drinks, snacks, something to clean their hands.

toys. (toy car worked well for ds)

money, keys, change, cards

thewomaninwhitefluffybunnyears · 27/05/2015 21:20

Pad and paper for emergency boredom!

silverglitterpisser · 27/05/2015 21:22

Reading with interest. I too feel like the one who always forgets something.

Like the time we took r dts for their very first weigh at the health centre. Walked in proud as peacocks, they looked so gorgeous, we stripped them out of their designer gear, sucked in the compliments beaming at the progress they were making, proper showboating n preening n then when it was all over n they were to b dressed, we realised we had not brought any nappies to put back on them. We had to borrow two nappies from the health visitor on duty. I wanted to die n was worried for ages we'd be referred to social services. Still feel ashamed now almost 2 yrs later Blush .

So, all I actually worry about now is nappies, wipes, suncream n a drink for little uns. I prioritise them n anything else I remember to pack is a bonus. I do have a specific bag that I try to keep packed with nappies, wipes, sun cream, long life snacks n juice, sunglasses, hats, Calpol, teething gel n spare clothes. Simple case of remembering to grab it off the hook on our way out n then u just may have all the essentials u need for a run to Tesco Grin

defineme · 27/05/2015 21:25

It's a while since I had 3 under 3, but food, drinks, change of clothes but as pp said gender neutral thing like elasticated waist shorts, nappy roll change mat thing that had wipes container, nappies and tiny pot sudocrem in its pockets, hand gel, suncream smallf50stick thing, pac a macs depending on forecast- but usually put those in buggy net, distraction toy like small
rainmaker or favourite little board book, soothers, packet of tissues, purse, phone, keys. Could fit it in a large handbag on a good day. Try sticking a list on the front door.

spad · 27/05/2015 21:30

I love this idea of one outfit to do them all as a change of clothes. Not quite sure how that will work though. DC3 hasn't yet been born, won't be long now though. DC2 is nine months and DC1 is 2 and a half.

But do you actually take all of that out with you everywhere you go? I am also thinking of trading my changing bag for a rucksack changing bag because I have deluded myself into thinking that that will make my life easier. What do you all think?

I think a checklist for everything I need to sort out when we get home is a great idea too.

Anymore?

In terms of an outfit that is one-size fits all, a t-shirt that fits the biggest can be used for the younger one too, and a pair of stretchy shorts will fit a baby in a nappy but also a toddler in pants (less padding).

TheFirstOfHerName · 27/05/2015 21:36

As soon as they are pre-school age, they can each carry a small rucksack containing their own essentials (cagoule, water bottle, jumper).

Tolivebythesea · 27/05/2015 21:38

Most essential keys, purse, phone. Plus the usual nappies, wipes, toys etc.

I also have a make up sized bag which lives in my handbag, this has in it.

Tissues
Anti bacterial hand gel
Assorted plasters
Antiseptic wipes
Tweezers
Sting cream
Safety pins
Hair bands and clips
Lip balm
Sun cream
Tampons
Nail file
Scissors
Pen

FirstWeTakeManhattan · 27/05/2015 21:38

Nappies
Wipes
Bottom Cream
Nappy bags (spares as really handy for loads of things)
Age appropriate snacks
Drinks
Change of clothes
The odd toy, but only because there's usually some lurking in my bag
Phone
Money
Lip balm
Sugar sweets for me (low blood sugar)
Hand gel stuff
A plaster or two
Sun block
Sunglasses
My lovely Contigo flask (with tea!)
Coats/fleeces

In the summer I also chuck in a towel and spare sandals in case we go to the waterpark.

It's not often I'm without any of it, really. It seems like loads, but stashes under pram/in bag easily.

SoftSheen · 27/05/2015 21:41

Nappies
Wipes
Nappy bags
Disposable changing mat
Muslin
Complete change of clothes for baby
Spare pants for preschooler

Small emergency snack
Plasters

I only have a baby and a 4 year old, quails at thought of 3 under 3

MuddlingMackem · 27/05/2015 21:42

Although I only had the two, I agree with restocking the changing bag the night before. Also, if you're driving put it in the boot before you go to bed, if you're car-less and have a pushchair load the pushchair up before you go to bed. I also used to keep a few toys and board books in one of those mesh nets on the back of the buggy. Oh, and if you do drive, keep a spare set of clothes, nappies and wipes in the car for those days when you didn't take enough in the changing bag. :)

Despite their rep, fruit shoots or equivalent are handy just for keeping a spare one in the bag or the buggy in case you forget drinks. If you're formula feeding it's also handy to keep a couple of those ready made cartons in the bag in case you end up being out longer than you intended.

FWIW, don't ever let the children take toys out of the house they or you would be upset if they lost. Learnt that one the hard way! Keeping tabs on the stuff two children have with them is stressful enough, three would be impossible.

grabaspoon · 27/05/2015 21:42
