To think that Pampers are utterly shit?

I usually use Lidl disposables on DS, which are the best- no leaks and dirt cheap.
On the very rare occasion that I am caught out and have had to buy Pampers I have had to deal with wet pyjamas most mornings and even the smallest poos end up in a blow out. I seriously considered throwing his pjs away today such was the extent of the damage.
When DD was a baby I was thrilled when she was big enough to fit into her cloth nappies as it was so much easier to clean those than get the poo stains out of her clothes from the bloody useless Pampers. I didn't realise back then that it was only stupid crap Pampers that failed like this.
How can they charge so much for what are IMO the worst nappies on the market?

I find them very good apart from the sizing which is tiny, think this is wrong as they are so expensive.

Aldi Mamia ones are brilliant.

Boots own ones give ds very sore hips/back, for some reason. Not sure what they put in them.

Psippsina · 26/05/2015 09:10

When I say sizing we are on a 5 or 5+ in every other brand but the 5+ in Pampers barely does up.

OlivesTree · 26/05/2015 09:11

I agree with the poster who said that they need regular changing. My kids aren't heavy wetters and Pampers are the only nappies I have used (apart from cloth) where I have needed to change them as they are wet (full and bulging) as opposed to just freshening them up before naps etc.

I also found that lidl and Asda were the best - buggies were awful and leaked every time.

WinterOfOurDiscountTents15 · 26/05/2015 09:15

Everyone's child is different. Why would you imagine that every nappy would fit every arse.
So pampers don't work for you, its weird and arrogant to announce they must be objectively awful. Just buy the ones you do like and quit the moaning.

Valsoldknickers · 26/05/2015 09:21

YABU, no problems with any of my DC's.

ChwatFeechers · 26/05/2015 10:28

Utterly shit. I'm rather taken with Aldi's nappies, last time my DS slept in a Pampers he woke up pissed wet through.

PomeralLights · 26/05/2015 10:32

Pampers sizing is weird. We've found them to be the best BUT only if we use the size bigger than it says is suitable (so dd now 14lb, is in ones for 20lb up)

reni1 · 26/05/2015 10:52

I found pampers the best by far. No leaks and all the others caused nappy rash.

SaucyJack · 26/05/2015 11:08

I dunno tbh.

We use the Tesco nappies in the green packet for DD3 and they're fine for us so don't see the need to buy Pampers at twice the price.

Plus, they have really funky Nordic owls on them:

1Morewineplease · 26/05/2015 11:09

Not sure I'm qualified to add to this thread as my DCs are late teens/early 20s but when DD was in nappies I took part in market research and on one occasion I was asked to trial various brands of nappies. They all came in plain white packs and I could only tell which ones were pampers owing to the recognisable pattern at the time... Didn't recognise the others. Needless to say pampers were the worst performers even then! The best by far was a shop's own brand but I wasn't allowed to be told which shop. What I was told was that my response was pretty much in line with what others were saying. I discovered by chance that they were made by Boots but , as I said , this was a long time ago.

SaucyJack · 26/05/2015 11:11

Having said that, Pampers newborn nappies are much softer than the other brands. I always buy a pack for the first few days.

DramaAlpaca · 26/05/2015 11:13

Like someone upthread said, it depends on the shape of the baby. My babies were all long & skinny, & Huggies were the best for us for daytime. IIRC, I used to use Boots night nappies for overnight.

cogitosum · 26/05/2015 11:15

I'm the opposite. On advice from here tried lidls along with other supermarket brands. All leak apart from pampers.

I think it varies from baby to baby what's roght for them (fit etc)

Bursarymum · 26/05/2015 11:16

When my dd1 who is now 13 was a baby, Pampers were really good. Then for some reason they took the absorbant part out of the back of the nappy and now they are, yes, shit. For my youngest who is now 6 I used Asda's Little Angels so Pampers have been bad for that long!

Jetgir1 · 26/05/2015 11:21

I loved Pampers. Struggled with other brands I tried BUT I only ever bought the Baby Dry ones. I detested Huggies as they leaked like crazy and found the cheap brands invoked huge nappy rash!

WorldsBiggestGrotbag · 26/05/2015 11:52

Yeah Lidl nappies are awful IMO. Scratchy and poorly fitting, and leaked within an hour or 2.

ScaredofthePill · 26/05/2015 12:07

Pampers were the only ones which didn't give my DS a rash. Never really had a problem with them leaking - used the active fit during the day and baby dry at night. Along with the pull ups when potty training.

RackofPeas · 26/05/2015 12:24

When I was expecting ds1 I asked a friend who was having her 7th child which nappies she recommended.
Pampers, she said. She'd tried all the different brands and own makes on the multiplicity of bums in her hpusehold and they were the ones she found lasted longest and leaked least. I took her advice.
We did try a few Huggies and own brand nappies and found them not to be as good.
My sister condemned my wastefulness of not using cloth nappies like she did. Her two children had near permanent nappy rash though.
Yabu, everyone I know with a little one in nappies uses pampers, at least overnight.

LauraMipsum · 26/05/2015 12:48

YANBU, Pampers just don't work on DD, they leak and give her horrible nappy rash. Tesco Loves Baby seem to be the ones that are best for her shape.

Lorgy · 26/05/2015 12:49

I have also found pampers to be really good and no leakage issues. I hate the stiff cardboard feel of cheaper nappies.

bluebeanie · 26/05/2015 12:58

Huggies were awful. Pampers I find are great and we use them at night only due to the expense. Asda are great for during the day (and cheap!). I think it is a bum shape thing. Will have to try out on dc2 come January.

Cliffdiver · 26/05/2015 13:03

YABU.

Been using nappies for past 3.6 years (2 DC) and tried a lot of different brands and always comeback to Pampers.

The number of packs of alternative brands I have given away due to leaks / rashes is ridiculous.

For me Pampers nappies and wipes are second to none.

FirstWeTakeManhattan · 26/05/2015 13:09

Pampers Baby Dry are fine, but Pampers Active Fit are awful. They were fine before they 'improved' Hmm a few years back, but I would never buy Pampers now - the improvement was a disaster and they went from the best to bloody awful.

I can be a bit of a label snob, but Tesco own brand beat Pampers hands down.

Yeasayer · 26/05/2015 13:11

I don't rate pampers either for the same reason as OP but I guess it depends on the fit to your baby.
Aldi used to be brilliant but they changed them at the end of last year and they feel really flimsy now. Have moved on to Sainsburys own and these have been great.
