we had a bowl of ice cream at lunch. It had choc sauce, crushed peanuts and digestive biscuits on top.

except the peanuts and digestive weren't on top. DH mashed mine into the ice cream. I wanted it sprinkled. i thanked him, but inside i was shedding a tear for the ice cream as i had envisioned it. it just didn't taste the same.

aibu for feeling so ungrateful? Wink

Well, yes.

MrsNextDoor · 25/05/2015 14:25

YANBU. Who MASHES someone else's topping?? I think you need to discuss topping etiquette with him asap!

My DH did similar when I was pregnant and had Pica...which meant I wanted to eat crushed ice constantly.

I had one tray of cubes left and asked him to get them and smash them for me....he brought them to me SULLIED with an added lolly ice!

Wtf?

He'd thought it would "be nice! Angry

cardibach · 25/05/2015 14:26

Probably, yes. But what's he doing mashing your food? He IBO ( is being odd)

FirstWeTakeManhattan · 25/05/2015 14:27

I had an unshed tear for the lovely buttery garlic naan bread I made last night. 'Take it out of the oven after 3 minutes' I told DH as I went off to feed DD2. 25 minutes later, we 'enjoyed' our brittle, burned forgot it was in the bloody oven naan and curry.

And just now, I carefully put on nice make up, opened the dishwasher halfway through the cycle to chuck in a teaspoon and got hit full in the face by a thwack of lukewarm dish water.

YANBU OP. It's just one thing after another, innit?

BaronVonShush · 25/05/2015 14:29

If we have stuff on ice cream, he likes it mashed in. He generally likes mashing most of his food, e.g. roast potatoes and gravy all mashed together.

I don't like it mashed in. I like to taste the different flavours more clearly. Horses for courses and all that!

It just wasn't what I had in mind...

I had tonsillitis last week and asked my OH to get me some ice cream. "something like magnums" I said.

He came back with Morrisons own brand mint choc chip ice cream.

I was fuming inside, but politely thanked him.

BaronVonShush · 25/05/2015 14:32

I would be RAGING about the naan bread! I did rage once when I was on a diet and I had enough points for a veg curry. I generously offered DH some and he took all the potato out of it. It was the best bit! I did shed a very visible tear then.

And I would have RAGED about the ice - especially if pregnant.

Irrational, moi?

FadedRed · 25/05/2015 14:41

Oh I feel for you, OP, what a dissapointment!
My DH, who is perfect in many ways, has the same disregard for the delicate cheesy topping on moussaka and fish pie. Just one of life's little pleasures needlessly lessened.........

Dowser · 25/05/2015 14:41

Are we being a princess? Of course we are, but if they love us they need to know what makes us tick!

Spoiling a good ice cream like that is never, ever acceptable even from your worst enemy.

I had to endure fish and chips yesterday with NO I mean none at all salt and vinegar.

I might as well have chews on my leg it was probably tastier.

I think we need to LTB's OP!

ILovedYouYesterday · 25/05/2015 14:42

Yanbu

DH used to think he was being helpful by dishing up takeaways while I was still taking my coat off.

ie. Dumping everything in a heap on the plate.

He now knows he can do this with his own portion if he likes but I prefer to serve mine up with a little more care and attention!

Dowser · 25/05/2015 14:43

Or I could just put milk in his black coffee!

Ooops! Forgot you LIKED it black! Sorry!

Dowser · 25/05/2015 14:47

I'm now faced with an awful dilemma. Been no sugar for 4.5 weeks. Just enjoyed a hearty lunch in a naive restaurant and there's two choccie mints on a plate.

I mean choccie mints. My fave food.

I'm going to have to leave them aren't I?

Cry!

Huge sobs!

BaronVonShush · 25/05/2015 14:52

Dowser you can do it! Don't waste 4.5 weeks of effort. I feel for you though. And now I feel bad for starting a sugar related thread!

OP posts:
DrinkFeckArseGirls · 25/05/2015 14:59

Step away from them! I just made chocolate truffles (no sugar), 85% choc, double cream, butter. Yum and no sugar (well, tiny bit in chocolate but acceptable).

DrinkFeckArseGirls · 25/05/2015 14:59

Did I mention they were no sugar Hmm

Iforgottotellyou · 25/05/2015 15:01

At out local school fair I was helping on a stall and asked my dh to go and get me a cake - nothing too messy to eat standing up just a plain sponge with minimal icing and 'nothing chocolate'.
He brought back a 'chocolate' sponge with cream, glitter and a flipping butterfly on top.

JacquesHammer · 25/05/2015 15:02

Woah that would make me re-evaluate EVERYTHING. Who mashes a topping?!

I went out for dinner with the fling the other day - he asked me if I wanted to try some of his pudding and then carefully selected The Best Bit to give to me.

He might be a keeper after all

manchestermummy · 25/05/2015 15:38

I have a mild lactose intolerance and ice cream is my worst trigger by a long way. If dh gets ice cream for him and the dc he never thinks of getting me a treat I can have without the immediate dash to the loo that is a consequence of ice cream.

What is it with all these people hmm?

Pixa · 25/05/2015 15:43

Mashing a topping is definitely the way to go, but only if it's done properly. It can't be just bashed and then mixed in.

MagelanicClouds · 25/05/2015 16:08

Reminds me of the time dh said he'd get me a hot cross bun.
He buttered it and just handed it over!
They're hot cross buns! HOT cross buns! No bloody good if they're cold! He never even thought to ask. I ask if people want them toasted as I am aware there are some oddities who don't. But they're so much nicer toasted! Lasy time I bought some me and the ds's didn't save him any as he doesn't appreciate them properly.

Why would you need to mash ice cream? Why?????

iklboo · 25/05/2015 16:16

I asked DH to bring me cake. He brought choc ices. Nice but not CAKE!

Pixa · 25/05/2015 16:18

I have posted these photos once on Mumsnet already today but.. I think you all need to see this. Grin

Then you give it a quick fold with the 'spatulas'. Flavours include, but are not limited to; bounty, daim, fruits, brownie pieces, white chocolate buttons and Oreos.

'Mashing' is the way forward - when done properly. Grin

YANBU dh brought a curry home a few weeks ago, no pickles tray Sad and then said 'but i thought you didn't like them' which brought on the Angry .

HeartsTrumpDiamonds · 25/05/2015 16:48
