I'm in the process of buying my first house and boyfriend (of 18 months) knew I was going to put in an offer on one I love this morning. I usually text him every morning (when I'm not with him of course) saying 'morning' but didn't today as I've been so nervous/ excited. Anyway my offer has just been accepted (Grin) and the bloody [removed at OPs request] hasn't even bothered to text me yet today asking how it's all gone. He KNEW I was going to put the offer in first thing and it's 11.37 and still no text. I am having extreme PMT which is causing me to be slightly over sensitive so am I being a crazy bitch or am I being reasonable in feeling slightly annoyed?

When someone I care about is doing something really important to them which might not have a happy ending I often don't contact them until they contact me (or it gets embarrassingly late) in case it would upset them - for example if your offer had not been accepted you might have been upset to talk about it. If he doesn't reply to your text, then he is indeed a non-offensive swear word.

mrsgooglemad · 22/05/2015 18:18

So you can say pretty much anything on here but not retard?? Retard is a slang phrase so I don't get how it's any more offensive than anything else?? Please correct me if I'm wrong! Confused

monkeysaymoo · 22/05/2015 18:28

Retard is not a slang phrase it's a derogatory term and is offensive in the same way as using the term spastic.

mrsgooglemad · 22/05/2015 18:32

So how is cunt, wanker or twat not a derogatory term? Just comparing as I don't see the difference??

NerrSnerr · 22/05/2015 18:37

Retard is short for retarded. It mocks people with learning disabilities. Can you really not see it?

ilovesooty · 22/05/2015 18:40

What Nerr said. Surely the difference is clear?

mrsgooglemad · 22/05/2015 18:42

I work in social care and I have never referred to anyone as "retarded" as I thought it was a very un pc phrase! I didn't even think it was used to be honest! I have done my particular type of job for ten years and have never, ever heard that word used professionally or in conversation to mean a learning difficulty. I am baffled to be perfectly honest.

mrsgooglemad · 22/05/2015 18:43

And who even says spastic anymore?! Good god.

monkeysaymoo · 22/05/2015 18:44

Of FFS stop being so obtuse mrsgoogleland if you really don't get it then I'm concerned you have a job in social care

EduCated · 22/05/2015 18:46

Had a jolt the other day when I heard 'spaz out' in a song. Really thought that was long gone by now.

OP YAB a bit U, sorry. Have you heard from him by now?!

NerrSnerr · 22/05/2015 18:46

I have no words.

Didn't realise the f-t word was a contraction of that - assumed it was a contraction of f*king bstard, infinitely more acceptable. Glad I got my education before I accidentally used it!

monkeysaymoo · 22/05/2015 18:56

HA HA HA HA HA mrsgoogleland thank you that's made my day!!!

monkeysaymoo · 22/05/2015 18:58

WhenSheWasBadSheWasHorrid · 22/05/2015 18:58

Another one here who had never heard the f--t word before. I assumed it was fucking bastard.

You are being a little over sensitive.

NerrSnerr · 22/05/2015 18:58

'Cunt cow faced monkey'. My husband came through from the kitchen to see what I'm laughing at.

WhenSheWasBadSheWasHorrid · 22/05/2015 19:00

I'm hopping mrsgoogles post doesn't get deleted. Pure genius. Grin

cuntycowfacemonkey · 22/05/2015 19:02

what do you think ladies?

cuntycowfacemonkey · 22/05/2015 19:02

Yes I'm not reporting it I want it to stay!

lougle · 22/05/2015 19:03

A bit extreme mrsgooglemad!

Retard is recognised as a pejorative term. In fact, so much so that Rosa's Law was passed in 2010, which changed the term 'mental retardation' to 'intellectual disability' in US law.

Retard (verb) means to slow, delay or hold back. Retardation is the act or state of being retarded.

mrsgooglemad the reason you've never heard it used in your line of work is because it is widely known to be offensive! I'd be more concerned if you had heard it being used.

By the way, simpleton has similar connotations. A simple rule of thumb is:

If you are describing an intellectually typical individual's behaviour or character using a term that could be used to describe someone with an intellectual disability, you're being offensive.

WhenSheWasBadSheWasHorrid · 22/05/2015 19:06

Ooh looks fantastic monkey

Tempted to change my name to WhenSheWasBadSheWasACowFacedCunt

Idefix · 22/05/2015 19:12

Oh op maybe a tad over sensitive but congrats on the house.

cuntycowfacemonkey · 22/05/2015 19:12
