www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-3086328/Schoolgirl-close-tears-Holland-Barrett-shop-assistant-said-just-eat-eat-eat.html

I know it's a Mail link, but it was the original story.

I also think that the mum should not let her daughter buy diet pills, but the staff was out of order.

A 16 year old girl was trying to buy diet pills and her Mother & The Mail think her being called "big" is the issue?

happygirl87 · 20/05/2015 17:18

If she'd say that it's obviously not a good thing.

I feel for the girl and for anyone who puts on weight due to their medication.

She is not a size 12.

Jacobsmum1972 · 20/05/2015 17:20

I don't think that a 16 year old would make up being bodyshamed.

I don't think that a 16 year old would make up being bodyshamed.

I disagree

I think it's quite likely she took offence at 'You're big for your age', and then added the other bit to give weight (no pun intended) to her complaint.

Of course it's all guess work though. We'll never know.

VivaLeBeaver · 20/05/2015 17:27

Do you know many 16yo girls? Grin

I don't think she'd make it up maybe, but major exaggeration? Quite probably.

i can Imagine a conversation Along the lines of girl asking about diet pills and saying she felt she'd put weight on. Sales assistant says under 18s can't have diet pills and she'd be best of watching what she ate for a bit if she wanted to lose a few pounds.

00100001 · 20/05/2015 17:37

She would definitely... embelish what was said OP

Pipbin · 20/05/2015 17:50

So some people not only believe every word of a 16 year old but also every word printed in the Daily Mail?

Jacobsmum1972 · 20/05/2015 17:50

Okay, maybe a bit of embellishment. Blush

Jacobsmum1972 · 20/05/2015 17:51

Pipbin i don't read the mail but they brought the story. The mail lie daily.

I don't think that a 16 year old would make up being bodyshamed.

Even one who takes that body shaming to a national newspaper?

00100001 · 20/05/2015 17:52

so, all in all, yes YABU Grin

00100001 · 20/05/2015 17:54

I'm a bit disappointed the was no Sad Face :(

vindscreenviper · 20/05/2015 17:57

Get with the programme, granny.

it's all duck-faces these days! Grin

PinkSquash · 20/05/2015 17:58

I think it's worrying that a 16 year old would resort to diet pills to try and lose weight.

00100001 · 20/05/2015 17:59

true!

Grin
StupidBloodyKindle · 20/05/2015 18:00

Damn, vindscreen (love your name btw) you were too fast for me....the duckfaces are hellish, assume the Fail kust lifted them from facebook/instagram.

StupidBloodyKindle · 20/05/2015 18:01

just

Jacobsmum1972 · 20/05/2015 18:01

balletgirlmum · 20/05/2015 18:03

They sold my young loking 13 year old daughter iron tablets that said only suitable for adults last week.

Dd does need iron, I buy her slow release ferraglobin that state age 12 up but I as a parent should be able to keep track of what she is taking.

SoOverItNow · 20/05/2015 18:09

Sales assistant was right not selling her diet pills.

Sounds like its possible she exaggerated what was said so she could have her pout published in a national newspaper.

Cue lots of "Awwww babes you soooo beautifuuuuul"

PinkSquash · 20/05/2015 18:14

Powdered caffeine? she's better off with a red bull. Grin

fiveacres · 20/05/2015 18:22

If the employer said it, she should be sacked. But it doesn't sound like she did.

Poor girl though; whatever happened it clearly upset her.

fiveacres · 20/05/2015 18:24

I think it's more likely that the article initially appeared in the local news. The Mail will have grabbed it maybe this happened to me once Grin

However - the pictures will be from Facebook. Yes, she's posing and pouting but come on - kids DO!

26Point2Miles · 20/05/2015 18:26

A conversation between herself and the shop assistant was 'humiliating'..... So instead of keeping it quiet she shouts it out to the whole world? Yeah right....silly silly girl

Jacobsmum1972 · 20/05/2015 18:31

I know wonder if they recieved a fee from local paper/daily mail.
