Is posting a two minute interview of your 2and 1/2 year old daughter sitting on the toilet going too far ?

I've been watching a family on YouTube but I've become increasingly uncomfortable with what they do :( Am I wrong in thinking it's voyeuristic to the extreme especially this video ?
I mean the toilet seriously [confusedm.youtube.com/#/watch?v=d00MegenWHc

Those children are posted online for at least 20min everyday .They have rampages ,fan videos and God knows what else .I don't think the link I posted here is making it any worse than it already is for these poor exploited children .There is even a video of the oldest having a seizure which the Father calls a funny face Angry

OP I agree with you. I can't see why turn it off or don't watch is even an appropriate response to this. As a mother yes, Im concerned and I wish there was some way parents could be cautioned and videoclip removed, in instances like this. Unfortunately I doubt it will ever happen.

& I think some people take the notion of "mind your own business" way too far in a lot of instances which means even more children are either endangered or exploited. Its a horrible thought..but there are people out there who would get off on watching a child in a toilet situation. Its just beyond horrible...this whole thing of stupid parents who will do anything for 15 minutes of fame, even their own children aren't safe from parents' great need to matter to the masses, be seen and heard

Agree with DottyStripes also

Hope2003 · 25/05/2015 20:51

I'm just glad to know I'm NBU when it comes to this issue .And if everyone was " to turn away and mind our own business " what would this world be like .Thank you ladies x

I am Confused How is this kid being humiliated, or put in danger?

It is just an extremely boring video of a headshot of a kid stood in a bathroom (she is not sitting on a toilet unless they have a 6 foot toilet seat) prattling on.

Shortandsweet20 · 26/05/2015 14:29

My younger sister follows this family so eagerly everyd and has even met them! They have so much love for their children and people clearly love watching their videos!
Personally I think it must be nice to know when the children are older they can say look this was your first word or your first steps etc. I would love to be able to sit and watch some of my childhood memories.

LeopardLamp · 27/05/2015 19:18

So every day of this child's life since (and including!) birth has been uploaded to YouTube? Horrible exploitation in my eyes.

MayPolist · 27/05/2015 19:36

How is it exploitative? Confused

Hope2003 · 27/05/2015 20:05

Well I thought I'd seen it all but this takes the biscuit .www.change.org/p/anna-saccone-jonathan-joly-gleam-futures-take-emilia-to-a-doctor?just_created=true
If 700+people care more for your child than you do then you've a problem .I'm done this is too much for my blood pressure and I hope to God these two tests are held responsible for what they are doing Angry

I think the issue with this family is not just that they have posted videos from every single day of their childs lives on youtube, but that they are effectively using their children as cash cows. That just doesn't quite sit comfortably with me I'm afraid. Just my opinion though.
I don't actively follow them (although know of them) and the nice house, cars and lifestyle that you see in their videos is all bought through the money they make from posting these videos of their children. Neither of the parents work outside filming their children. Exploiting each moment of their childs lives is what brings in the money for them. I do have to wonder at what point the children will get a say in this, and what the long term effects might be having their lives documented in such detail to the public. So many child stars end up with such big issues later on with their lives that I hope the parents have thought through just what they are doing.

I do also know through seeing petitions online that one of their children recently had a seizure of some kind which they filmed. Depsite many "fans" recognising what had occured and kindly suggesting that they take her to the Dr's to be checked the parents refused to do so saying she was just pulling a funny face instead.
It shows another problem with what they are doing really. I have seen whole threads elsewhere focused on different ways they abuse their children and are terrible parents. The intense scrutiny that they have set themselves and their kids up for is just downright scary.Topics discussing the childrens development in a negative way etc are going to be on the internet for the children, their future friends, family etc to see forever and that shouldn't be taken lightly.
I think they are setting themselves up for all sorts of problems later in life by doing what they do, and I could never do it myself despite the millions they are making from doing this.

FindoGask · 27/05/2015 20:46

You could have maybe raised the issue without posting the link. You're just exploiting her even more, if that's what you think is happening.

FWIW, there are very few pictures of my children online and none that can be seen by the public. Since the first days of facebook, when I think people shared a lot more, me included, I've become increasingly cagey about my private life and especially that of my children, who - as you and others point out - have no control over their own image. I'm sure most of us can remember cringing over old pictures of us as children, stark naked in paddling pools or whatever. Imagine if those pictures had been seen by thousands of people and not just family and the first boyfriend you brought home.

FindoGask · 27/05/2015 20:46

You are making their audience bigger, though (reading some later points of yours) - I'd never heard of them before.

GatoradeMeBitch · 27/05/2015 23:21

I really doubt the Mumsnet demographic (in general) would be watching their daily vlogs, that seems more something for 11-13 year olds - going by the inane 'Hi friends!!! Where are you all from???' comments on the video I watched.

FUNM · 28/05/2015 15:48

The Mumsnet Demographic would not be watching these videos, however, their kids will be. As a mum, I am glad I am aware of what is going on especially with the advertising placed into the middle of the videos, something that could influence impressionable kids.

My kids started to constantly ask for new toys, products they had seen advertised on various videos and, frankly, it caused a lot of family problems and tension. Not to mention the cost. I had to put my foot down and say no, even though there were tantrums for days. It is bad enough that kids are bombarded with adverts on TV, but online too now. And it seems they have been targeted specifically by these marketing people. I am glad my eyes were opened after reading this article in The Independent
www.independent.co.uk/news/media/online/vloggers-increasingly-target-children-with-covert-advertising-10114715.html

This recent commercialization of childhood has been observed in an official report published www.archbishopofyork.org/yorkdata/files/resources/3227/MOT_2552_LiveCopy_brochure_v4.pdf - so this is an issue that is directly affecting the kids, but indirectly affecting the parents, since they are the ones who will have to find extra money to buy these products, or use their children's pocket money, which could be better placed in a savings account that flushed down the drain on frivolous merchandise.

FUNM · 28/05/2015 16:10

*savings account rather than flushed

Hope2003 · 05/06/2015 10:33

FUNM that's an interesting article .It's certainly a new "first world problem " but that still doesn't excuse what they are doing .I suppose time will tell .It's sad though they are lovely kids being exploited by everyone who comes in contact with them even other Youtbers .Any who not my problem but their parents I suppose .Let's hope they save enough for therapy .Ciao x

Interesting article, and definitely something to think about. I wouldn't particularly want youtube footage of me on the toilet or in the bath as a baby. There certainly are a lot of weirdos around, and a disturbed person could in theory become obsessive and stalk a family.

TheNewStatesman · 21/09/2015 10:23

I have no interest in watching this video. Could MN please remove it?

And it is completely wrong for parents to post this kind of thing online. Frankly, I think posting ANY videos on children online is a pretty stupid idea, but this is awful.

BalthazarImpresario · 21/09/2015 11:04

Why would anyone want to watch a video interview with a toddler anyway? I can't imagine it is interesting. I've not watched but from reading the comments do they post lots of videos? (because they are the only people ever to have children? What a snoozefest)

Hope2003 · 21/09/2015 11:19

Yes they post a twenty min video everyday for the last 4/5years .
The Guardian did a piece on them and its quite derogatory I've linked it above .

I am just sick to death of this crop of gobshites who think their and their kids lives are so exciting they need to show the whole world wide interweb. FFS wrap up and stop being so self obsessed.
Thats without all the added technicalities of the childs privacy.

Fratelli · 21/09/2015 12:18

At the end of the day it isn't your child so probably not worth getting your knickers in a twist

spoonfulofgoodness · 21/09/2015 14:29

Is that the Saccone Joly family? They will do ANYTHING for money and publicity. I've seen their YouTube channel and the husband seems to have a screw loose.
