Help me out! Am I BU or is DP?

This is an argument we had yesterday but now I'm checking myself!

DP wants to save up for a van to help him with his hobbies (surfing and mountain biking) as our tiny car is making it difficult to get anywhere sensibly (think 9ft 6in surfboard on a smart car!). All good.

Yesterday he decides no, he doesn't want a van, he wants an estate car. I was ok with this (his car, his choice) until he tells me.....the surfboard wouldn't be going on the roof, it would be going IN the car with the front passenger seat down. MY fecking seat! 'Where will I sit?' I say, 'In the back of course!' he replies.

I became a bit rude at this point, told him he could fuck off if he thought I was being relegated to the back of the car on account of a surfboard. He got huffy, said 'fine I'm giving up surfing then' fucking child lol 'Oh well' I say, 'maybe you could take up rambling of something?'. This seemed to upset him and he wailed 'you are so U, all I want is for my surfboard to be safe' Hmm

So......am I BU to not want to be shoved in the back of the car? Or should I suck it up and get a longed for dog so it can sit in the front of my car whilst DP is made to sit in the back?

What's your point fuzz ? If you think it's pathetic why are you still investing time in it?

I didn't ask if I was being pathetic, I asked if I was being unreasonable Wink

Must admit I wouldn't have a problem with it actually - sorry. So I think you are being a tad unreasonable. It is very inefficient fuel-wise to put the surf-board on the roof, and can make the car steering go wobbly if it's windy. I personally don't mind sitting in the back. At least I could watch iplayer on my iPad or something whilst he drives. Or I would drive and let home sit in the back. (As for getting a dog to sit in the front - nooooooo..... unless you get a special dog seat-belt for it).

I'm surprised that so many people feel that sitting in the back seat is somehow 'relegation' - sickness aside, what's so bad about the back seat?

SnowyPiglet · 18/05/2015 17:49

'home' = 'him'. Sorry.

Be grateful he doesn't play a harp. You'd be getting the bus.

I think opinions might also depend on how often people have had to sit in the back seat and in what kinds of cars (and on what kinds of journeys). I've been in the back seat in many teeny tiny cars on motorways in the last year or two and I haven't a chance in hell of hearing what the people in the front are saying, because of the teeny tiny car's rattling and lack of insulation against the roar of the motorway.

Icimoi · 18/05/2015 18:06

I'm not sure whether people who can't see the problem with sitting in the back realise that OP is going to have to share it with the surfboard and a car seat. OP, would you have to sit in the middle, or would you be at the side? Either way, it has to be more uncomfortable than sitting in the front.

Littlemonstersrule · 18/05/2015 18:22

Wouldn't bother me but I'm not precious about where I sit in a car.

In a side not, if my partner swore at me like you did he would have been sleeping elsewhere that night!
