To think a strip wash isn't very nice?

As in a bowl, water, flannel and soap?

AIBU to think that if able people should be able to have a bath or a shower?

It does the job if there's little option.

gamerchick · 16/05/2015 14:04

My SIL only baths a couple of times a year and I've never known her to smell bad. She just strip washes or uses baby wipes.

Nevercallmehun · 16/05/2015 14:04

Better than nothing if you're in a hurry.

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 16/05/2015 14:06

Don't have one then, OP. Have a shower or a bath.

Or, were you wanting to talk about OTHER people and what they do? Hmm

Theycallmemellowjello · 16/05/2015 14:06

Used to be the norm a couple of generations ago, apart from bath night once a week! I don't see a problem with it myself, apart from perhaps in the height of summer.

DustyMaiden · 16/05/2015 14:07

Bed bath wipes warmed in the microwave are nice.

Sirzy · 16/05/2015 14:07

As long as people are washing why does it matter how they do it?

They're very environmentally friendly.

SlaggyIsland · 16/05/2015 14:10

I used baby wipes to wash when there was no other option - it really didn't keep me clean. Being able to have a shower afterwards was a big relief.

Vanillachocolateyummy · 16/05/2015 14:11

I'm trying to think what I personally would want, and I definitely wouldn't want my only option to be a bowl and a flannel. If someone chooses to wash like that that's different. Lying, yes, other people.

My 2 year old gets a wash on nights where he doesn't really need a bath.

It's just hot water and wash stuff on a flannel? Not sure what the big deal is!

He gets a bath if he's actually dirty!

He wears clean clothes to bed, clean clothes each day.

Bedding changed regulalry.

Nope, can't see the issue??

CupidStuntSurvivor · 16/05/2015 14:13

In any particular situation OP or did you just fancy lecturing people on personal hygiene?

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 16/05/2015 14:13

Why? Why does it bother you what other people do? I don't have strip washes, I couldn't care less what other people do, including you.

You're starting a bunfighty thread.

cozietoesie · 16/05/2015 14:14

I spent 4 years in a cold-water flat without bath or shower and counted myself lucky to have an inside (although shared) toilet. Washing had to be done with water heated in the kettle - so Yes, a strip wash was what I did.

Not everyone has options.

Vanillachocolateyummy · 16/05/2015 14:14

Oh of course it isn't a lecture. I have to give people strip washes as part of my job as there isn't the allocated time to give them a shower. So most people would surely prefer to have a proper shower rather than a wash with a bowl?

I wondered if anybody thought differently.

Vanillachocolateyummy · 16/05/2015 14:15

It's not a bunfight. You are the one wanting to argue with me. Confused

OP posts:
CupidStuntSurvivor · 16/05/2015 14:15

As long as people don't smell offensive, I couldn't really care less. It's not like I lick them to say hello.

ditavonteesed · 16/05/2015 14:15

we had them for a week over christamas when the boiler had broken, don't think we smelt, mind you we had that many layers on you probably couldnt tell anyway.

5YearsTime · 16/05/2015 14:16

I don't feel as clean with a strip wash than I do with a shower or bath. Plus it takes just as long as having a shower.

mrsdavidbowie · 16/05/2015 14:16

Reminds me of the sixties qgwn we had strip washes every night and a bath on Sunday.
Horrible.

CalleighDoodle · 16/05/2015 14:17

Now thats a different issue. If you look on the nursing pay threadtheres some posts about how sad it is theres considered no time to give people a bath and how sad that is

FernGullysWoollyPully · 16/05/2015 14:17

My kids have a wash like this every morning.

Bath and hair wash is twice a week.

Their clothes are clean on every day as are their pyjamas usually. Beds are stripped and washed weekly.

I don't see what the problem is here OP? They aren't dirty.

Quitelikely · 16/05/2015 14:18

Gamerchick why does your sil not take baths/showers?

If you don't mind me asking Blush

I personally wouldn't feel clean without having a bath or shower

Vanillachocolateyummy · 16/05/2015 14:18

Well, I did say in my OP 'if able people should be able to have a bath or a shower' :)
