To hate it when a cashier puts the receipt/notes into your hand before the coins?

Whats the point of that? You then have coins sliding around on top of a piece of paper in your hand, which makes it take longer to put it away in your purse, whilst the cashier sits there impatiently waiting for you to leave.

I have worked a till before and I always gave the customer the coins first. Nobody ever seemed unhappy with this, in fact one woman thanked me for not shoving the coins on top of her notes.

Its very rare (at least where I live) for a cashier to give the coins first. Are they being trained to give the notes/receipt first?

Am I BU, or does this annoy anyone else?

I prefer this. Means I can slide the dirty coins into my purse and zip them away without having to touch them. Yuck.

Of course, touching them isn't a problem when I'm then having to get them out of my purse. My purse magically cleans them, you see.

LadyNym · 16/05/2015 14:14

YANBU!! I have ranted about this before and gotten strange, bemused looks from people who don't 'get' it. Thank God I'm not the only one!

Drives me totally fucking mental, especially if I have a loyalty card too, so we get a loyalty card, receipt, notes, coins, I have perfected a kind of hand trick thing where I take the notes quickly and pop them in my purse, sometimes the cashier drops some coins, but I am always really polite and friendly and say, "sorry only got one pair of hands" with a smile. It is really hard when you also have other shopping bags in your free hand.
The other thing is when the cashier pops all your really heavy shopping in one bag - say 2 x 4 pints of milk, again I smile and point out it is too heavy to carry, but honestly, think it through.

Lol at dirty coins weirdo

UPDATE - Inspired by some of the posts on here, I went to the shop and when the cashier put the note into my hand, I quickly moved my hand away, put the note in my purse and then took the coins from her.

She looked really perplexed. Grin

Yes, then they glare at you whilst you juggle with a handful and try to stop the coins from sliding onto the floor Hmm

usualsuspect333 · 16/05/2015 18:00

Oh poor you all, having to spend a few seconds putting your money away.

I would have put your coins on the counter if you moved your hand away. I would have smiled while I did it though.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 16/05/2015 18:01

No, notes first is correct, I can't stand it when they do coins first as I end up dropping the coins when I'm trying to put the notes away. Tip coins from top of note into open purse, leaves hand free to fold notes and put them away separately.

Miltonmaid · 16/05/2015 18:02

YANBU. This really winds me up. It makes it so awkward to get them back into my purse.

usualsuspect333 · 16/05/2015 18:05

Some like notes first, some like coins first. Forgive us till workers for not having mind reading powers.

UnsolvedMystery · 16/05/2015 18:10

YANBU - I hate it too
I have never understood why they do it that way.

usualsuspect333 · 16/05/2015 18:11

Probably because that's the order they take the change out of the till.

Nanny0gg · 16/05/2015 18:45

I always try and manoeuvre my hand to take the coins first so that they go in my palm and I take the notes in my fingers.

Much easier to put away. You just curl your hand around the coins so you don't drop them, put the notes away and then the coins.

JassyRadlett · 16/05/2015 18:49

YAB totally U. Correct way - coin part of purse is unzipped ready for coins to be dropped into it. Notes then placed in note compartment or folded into coin bit. How can you fold notes neatly if you're juggling a handful of coins? Bonkers.

PerspicaciaTick · 16/05/2015 19:34

Um, the coins weigh down the receipt and notes so they don't drift off. So YABU.

Pedallleur · 16/05/2015 21:18

just back from holiday in Nice and a number of shops didn't handle your money. They totalled the bill and you put your money into a machine (notes on side, coins the other) and the correct change came out at the bottom. Staff then handed you your goods

balletnotlacrosse · 16/05/2015 22:09

YANBU, I was thinking exactly the same thing today as I tried to stop a pile of coins from sliding onto the floor before I managed to grasp everything in my hand. If they'd even give you time to put the notes into your purse before handing you the coins it would help. But everything's rush rush rush these days!

MrsNextDoor · 16/05/2015 22:12

YANBU. My Mum makes a big deal out of placing the coins and receipt on the counter and sorting it all out when they do that. She won't shove it all in her purse.

motleymop · 16/05/2015 22:16

I can barely remember getting change which includes notes. I use a debit card for pretty much everything. Suggest you follow suit and there'll be none of this irritating notes/coins business

balletnotlacrosse · 16/05/2015 22:43

Oh yes, why doesn't everyone use a debit card everytime they want to buy a pint of milk and a paper.

Seriously Motley?

AyeAmarok · 16/05/2015 22:46

I use a debit card to buy milk. I thought lots of people did these days. No? Blush

Dirty coin weirdo. (cheers Badger )

MrsNextDoor · 16/05/2015 22:56

I use a debit card for small purchases. Why not?

Pyjamaramadrama · 16/05/2015 22:58

Yanbu, why do they do that? It makes you nearly drop all your money.
When I worked in a shop I always put coins first then notes.

motleymop · 16/05/2015 23:20

Yes, seriously! What's wrong with that?!
