They use the song "So Macho" for a class that runs 3 x per week.

Lyrics:

I don't want no seven stone weakling
Or a boy who thinks he's a girl
I'm after a hunk of a guy
An experienced man of the world
There ain't no way that I'll make do
With anything less than I'm used to
If I have a man tonight
He's gotta be right, right, right

So Macho
He's got to be
So Macho
He's got to be big and strong enough
to turn me on
He's got to have, big blue eyes
Be able to satisfy
He's got to be big and strong enough
to turn me on

I'm tired of taking the lead
I want a man who will dominate me
Someone who will love and protect me
And take care of my every need
Now I don't mean to be personal
But a guy like that's more preferable
In my humble point of view
Than any of you

So Macho
He's got to be
So Macho
He's got to be big and strong enough
to turn me on
He's got to have, big blue eyes
Be able to satisfy
He's got to be big and strong enough
to turn me on

So Macho
He's got to be
So Macho
He's got to be big and strong enough
to turn me on
He's got to have, big blue eyes
Be able to satisfy
He's got to be big and strong enough
to turn me on

Macho man
-Ooh I'm in need of a
Macho man
-Ooh I'm in need of a man...
He's got to be...

Its hardly "Smack my bitch up" is it?

Anyway, thanks for the earworm...

On another note - Norbert (awesome name), do you just like the name or do you live near the A38?! Maybe you should suggest it on a baby name thread! I love the way it rolls off the tongue.

CookPassBabtrigde · 14/05/2015 21:25

YANBU, I can see your point but besides that, its a really crap song. Surely there's something else they can do gym class to?

When I was at school James Blunt was popular and our PE teacher liked to put the album on during the whole lesson. She used to sing along too. Every. Fucking. Lesson.
It was torture

NorbertDentressangle · 14/05/2015 21:26

Chesntoots the name change came from a funny Eddie Stobart thread years ago but it's a name I admired for years having seen it on lorries across France before it was quite so popular here in the UK.

If I'd had a third child I might have been tempted to call him Norbert Grin!

SistersofPercy · 14/05/2015 21:27

You're going to implode when you hear Frankie Goes To Hollywood Wink Grin

Roseforarose · 14/05/2015 21:29

I also remember dancing to this on a holiday park. Great little song for dancing to. I also love macho men. Who wants a weakling. Stop being petty.

RedCrayons · 14/05/2015 21:33

Well I'm not one for censorship but I'll make and exception for Sinitta.

If you notice the words then you're now working hard enough.

RedCrayons · 14/05/2015 21:34

*not

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 14/05/2015 21:54

At DH gym , they showed the video for "Valerie" , the Stevie Winwood not Amy winehouse.
Y'know the lycra clad gym workout one....

DrElizabethPlimpton · 14/05/2015 21:59

You wouldn't have enjoyed Rewind Festival Henley a couple of years ago OP. Sinitta sang it there with a stage of men in tiny little shorts.

BadgersArse · 14/05/2015 22:02

a)
what a shit gym

b) No dont say that. its a song.

BadgersArse · 14/05/2015 22:03

lol at being at school during James Blunt - wasnt that like ,er last year?

LomaLinda77 · 14/05/2015 22:05

I always thought it was "so mature" Blush

CookPassBabtrigde · 14/05/2015 22:27

More like 10 years ago, badger...

26Point2Miles · 14/05/2015 22:30

God how petty! They would just laugh at you op...

apintofwhine · 14/05/2015 22:42

I listen to it while putting my leg warmers on to get me in the mood but prefer Bonnie Tyler 'holding out for a hero' for my aerobics

SeenSheen · 14/05/2015 22:46

Perhaps suggest that all of the songs are pre-approved by all of the class members?
Sorry you are being ridiculous, it is a crap song but presumably the instructor likes it.
If you really can't bear it then don't go to the class but don't try & dictate what others can exercise to.

Fairenuff · 14/05/2015 22:51

I don't think the lyrics are sexist, she is just stating her own personal preferences.

formerbabe · 14/05/2015 22:56

A hysterical thread! Op...yabvvvu!

PaulaJane37 · 14/05/2015 22:56

I love 80's music however cheesy!!! I thin YABU it's just a song! I'm sure Sinitta didn't even understand the lyrics, not anyone else, I never thought once about them! Same as Meghan Trainor going on about stick thin barbies! I couldn't give a shit, I like the songs! Fat bottomed girls the lot, not sexist, fattist, thinnest, just songs!!

Wantsunshine · 14/05/2015 23:03

Hahaha yes please complain and report back! And apinot that is the greatest song ever and I am jealous if you have leg warmers

Icimoi · 14/05/2015 23:03

YANBU. Any song with lyrics like "But a guy like that's more preferable" should be banned for crimes against grammar anyway.

LonnyVonnyWilsonFrickett · 14/05/2015 23:10

Paula you might want to leave some exclamation marks for the next poster Grin

Op it's one of the biggest, gayest, big gay anthems in the history of the world ever. Context is everything. Pull your judgy leg warmers down a bit and just go with the flow...

SistersofPercy · 14/05/2015 23:20

You could solve this issue by insisting gyms only play Disney songs. Spinning class to hi ho? Aerobics to under the sea?
It would be magical

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 14/05/2015 23:20

I thought this was another "Blurred Lines" bashing thread before I clicked.

drbadbride · 15/05/2015 07:01

If you want something clean, fresh-faced and yet 1980stastic, can I propose the lovely
