AIBU?

AIBU to think my DD should be able to wash her own hair by now?

DD is 10.

She is at the age where she'd rather shower or bath in privacy. Absolutely fine. I respect that.
But she is rubbish at washing her hair! She leaves tons of soap on afterwards or doesn't condition properly (as I've showed her so many times) so it's just like a tangled birds nest at the back. We keep it shorter than she'd like because of this (just above collarbone).

It always looks a bit greasy because of it.

AIBU to think that a 10 year old should be pretty competent at washing her own hair? Especially when she is able to do things like Loom bands pretty well?

Please be careful what you use on her hair. Cheap conditioner is just silicone (as is frizz ease) and is really bad for hair. I use a tiny spot of naked care gentle conditioner on DD's long fine hair when it's washed (usually twice a week). It's brilliant stuff.

And a tangle teaser is superb for getting hair brushed without a fuss too.

Have you thought about getting her a pair of goggles? Might help with not liking the spray...

I had to inspect dds hair until she was about 11yo. Thick, long hair and she used to still have suds in her hair.

My 10 year old DS is still getting the hang of washing his hair properly.

He has standard issue Small Boy Short Hair which should take almost no effort to wash but he still comes out the bath with it dirty/half the shampoo still in.

No advice, just to let you know it's not just you. Grin

Sending him back to do it properly again and again is getting through to him slowly.

My DD took a while to get the knack of thoroughly washing and rinsing her hair. I would check it and wash myself every couple of washes. Even now she still loves it if I wash and dry her hair.
Could your daughter lean over the bath with her hands over her eyes whilst you wash her hair? That way she wouldn't need to get naked.
