To feel sick and disappointed everytime I hear Nicki Minaj

Lyrics from her current single:

"Yes I'll do the cooking, yes I'll do the cleaning
Plus I keep the na-na, real sweet, for your eating
Yes you be the boss, and yes I be respecting
Whatever that you tell me, cause it's game you be spitting"

why is this shite on the radio.. why is the word woman being summed down to these attributes?! thinking of young girls singing this crap makes me sick (and I'm not some sort of radical feminist who is looking for things to point sexism at I just think this takes the mick surely.)

I think its meant to be tongue and cheek,

hmm yes, but ones tongue risks being jammed at this rate!

I Find Meghan trainers music/videos a a bit refreshing after listening to, Nicki Minaj and co. Al tough i do wince every time "dear future husband" comes on.

Its like creativity has gone completely out of the window now. Michael Jackson managed to sing so many hits without this level of shite.

CoffeeAndBiscuitsPlease · 12/05/2015 20:21

LadyDeadPool

I'll be sleeping on the left side of the bed (hey)
Open doors for me and you might get some kisses
Don't have a dirty mind
Just be a classy guy
Buy me a ring
Buy-buy me a ring, (babe)

You have to listen to the song, not read the lyrics to see the joke about head here, but I'm sure you can see the joke in the lyrics.

The video also depicts her on her knees scrubbing the kitchen floor.

CoffeeAndBiscuitsPlease · 12/05/2015 20:23

Michael Jackson is a genius, nothing beats him in my eyes. But even he hit some controversy with his Black or White teaser video with the panther.

And his "In the Closet" video is a bit saucy. :)

MrBloomFantasies · 12/05/2015 20:25

singing about giving him head if he's a good husband and showing her scrubbing the floors dressed as a typical housewife in her music videos.

wtf?! it's become the norm for pop songs to be sexual.. this one it is literally all of this balls about serving some bloke with "game" no mention what he does in return, he just has to be a man while she on the otherhand:

be whatever on demand
give him sex whenever he wants it
cooking
cleaning
keeping her banana vagina nice
respects whatever he says
makes sure he gets his share
takes care of him
rubs him down

Hmm

oh yes, "In the closet" video was saucy Wink

CoffeeAndBiscuitsPlease · 12/05/2015 20:29

Somelikeitcold - I'll give you 5 mins to go and youtube the vid ;)

BitOutOfPractice · 12/05/2015 20:31

OP I think "sick and disappointed" sums up my feelings too

If it helps at all, my 15yo dd is appalled and disgusted by her

Flingmoo · 12/05/2015 20:32

I actually quite like Anaconda... The excessive bums and twerking are so OTT it's clearly self aware, its just her homage to that hypersexual 90s style...

CoffeeAndBiscuitsPlease · 12/05/2015 20:32

Mamushka - Agree

nilbyname · 12/05/2015 20:35

dementedma · 12/05/2015 20:36

Erm, I thought Nicky menaj was a guy! Shows how up to date I am!

MrBloomFantasies · 12/05/2015 20:38

the songs called Hey Mama

shitebag · 12/05/2015 20:40

Can I just add that I'm 28 and had never heard of that Tammy woman, I know the song but not a clue who sang it!

I also agree that pop music is rather sexualized and it was the same when I was younger I just didn't realise at the time and I dread the day my daughter starts singing along to whatever shite is popular. Hopefully she'll take after her brother and prefer Iron Maiden and Metallica :o

Actually slightly off subject but after hearing Britney Spears Hit me baby one more time the other day, is it just me or was that song being sung from the prospective of a victim of domestic abuse? I cannot fathom another logic for those lyrics Hmm

Oh god I've just remembered little girls in my work dancing singing "all of the boys and all of the girls are begging to if you seek Amy" that was awful!

CoffeeAndBiscuitsPlease · 12/05/2015 20:43

If you seek Amy! oh I forgot about that song, was a good joke song when I was younger.

Hit me baby one more time was the first song that my OH mentioned when I showed him that thread. "over school age lass dressed in a school uniform in a mini top singing about needing a guy who seems to want to hit her" lol

But... my parents bought me that single, I only remember becayse I liked the B side better :)

LadyDeadpool · 12/05/2015 20:45

Ah but Coffee she also tells him not to expect her to cook and that she will be working
"You got that 9 to 5
But, baby, so do I
So don't be thinking I'll be home and baking apple pies
I never learned to cook"
and tbh I think thag line literally means kisses. As much as I personally dislike her I think she's a decent role model.

shitebag · 12/05/2015 20:47

I had the Britney album too before I hit high school and got experimental and saw the light turned goth :o

It didn't bother me at the time but now listening back it really is disturbing the message this shit sends to kids subconsciously.

CoffeeAndBiscuitsPlease · 12/05/2015 20:47

Nicki Minaj also tells men where to shove it and what to do in many of her songs, I didn't realise it counteracted the shit. That's fair enough then. They are both OK

and tbh I think thag line literally means kisses

Listen to the song!! and you will realise you are wrong..... Yes it looks like an accident in the written lyrics, unless you listen to the song, then you know it's definitely deliberate. (Hence the next line about a dirty mind)

WyrdByrd · 12/05/2015 20:48

LadyD I was just about to post the same thing.

Otherwise I am proper LOL at this thread. Not that I don't get the sexism thing, but the na-na thing is hilarious Grin.

undermythumb · 12/05/2015 20:53

'It's hit me one more time' as in blackjack. Ie lets do it again, or take another chance. Nothing at all to do with her being physically hit.

CoffeeAndBiscuitsPlease · 12/05/2015 20:53

If you listen to the song, and you don't see the blatant joke about giving him head then you are potty. There is a very deliberate pause, and the next line says not to think dirty, and she is scrubbing bloody floors.

As for a role model, poppy cock. Saying she is happy with her image while trying to suck herself in in her Lips are moving video as much as possible.

Same shit different package. In the next couple of months she will have a huge weight loss and her music will shift.

Jesse J started off great, and went down the same shitty slope.

Even an interview I watched of Adelle a few years back had her saying she doesn't berate the sexy music videos and said she would do the same if she could, but she does the music she does because it's more fitting to her size and image.

Royalsighness · 12/05/2015 20:55

Apocalypsenowt your post made me cry Grin
