To feel sick and disappointed everytime I hear Nicki Minaj

Lyrics from her current single:

"Yes I'll do the cooking, yes I'll do the cleaning
Plus I keep the na-na, real sweet, for your eating
Yes you be the boss, and yes I be respecting
Whatever that you tell me, cause it's game you be spitting"

why is this shite on the radio.. why is the word woman being summed down to these attributes?! thinking of young girls singing this crap makes me sick (and I'm not some sort of radical feminist who is looking for things to point sexism at I just think this takes the mick surely.)

probably because of my age.. 22

Haven't you heard of anything before 1993 then? Confused That must make lots of conversations really difficult.

WorraLiberty · 12/05/2015 18:28

Sorry OP, I appear have have caused your thread to stray off topic Blush

DoTheDuckFace · 12/05/2015 18:30

I thought Nana was referring to her vagina but it's a new one on me.

MrBloomFantasies · 12/05/2015 18:36

So who said poetry is dead?????????

Minaj.....Shut.It.

WinterBabyof89 · 12/05/2015 18:42

Ignoring these awful lyrics, the song is dead catchy.. Such a shame..

I thought she was a bit more hardcore than these lyrics portray.. Can't imagine her doing the cooking and cleaning, and 'respecting' HA
God it's laughable..

StillStayingClassySanDiego · 12/05/2015 18:43

I don't know what the word is for Nicki Minaj. Someone on a thread ages ago was talking about the video for her song 'Anaconda'. I watched it and it was basically a load of bums dancing about independent of the ladies they were attached to. Strangely fascinating but my face was Shock the whole time.

Also I think Minaj sounds like a word for vagina.

ApocalypseNowt · 12/05/2015 18:47

More than nana anyhoo

MrBloomFantasies · 12/05/2015 18:47

You're deprived!

no.. my DP puts absolute 80s on every sunday and it's horrific!

not sure which i'd rather listen to on repeat nicki imnaj or absolute 80s... it's some sort of awful nightmare...

it is awful and so is that new chris brown one, ay-o I think its called

it just seems in so much music "these days" (at risk of sounding ancient) women are just decorations to be fucked

horrible

PinkSquash · 12/05/2015 18:53

Nowt wrong with 80s music. Shock 70s is pretty dire IMO.

Still not keen on Minaj

I agree.. i don't get up in arms about much with regards to modern feminism in the western world, but i think modern day music leaves a lot to be desired. makes me very glad i don't have a daughter.

Literally snorting tea at the thought that my vagina is to be referred to as 'me Nana'.

A lot of the singers and dancers in music through the 70s 80s and 90s have worn skin tight body suits, skimpy bikini suits, skin tight clothing, revealing clothing, provocative dancing, it's nothing new. Nicki Minaj just approaches it in a more masculine way with a lot of her lyrics, and obviously it's all about the ass with her. But she isn't the first to do it, or be vulgar.

Only the other day I was looking at the video for Vengaboys "Boom boom" and I wash shocked at how I would dance and sing to this as a kid, no idea what it was portraying... plenty of other songs like that too.

I'm 27, so I grew up with 90s and early 00s music and music videos, and if you go back and look at them they really are a mess. Britney Spears "oops I did it again" Christina Milian "Dip it low" way more sexualised and sexist. I think people just forget what has been before.

CaptainAnkles · 12/05/2015 19:49

I've heard of calling it a ninny and a noo-noo, so I suppose nana isn't that weird. Pretty grim lyrics though.

WhiteConverseSkinnyJeans · 12/05/2015 19:53

yeah you are right coffee

I think its when you have dc (esp daughters) it just becomes so much more stark and you see it through different eyes

CoffeeAndBiscuitsPlease · 12/05/2015 19:56

I do have a daughter :)

bigfatfailure15 · 12/05/2015 19:58

I think its meant to be tongue and cheek, she often does these kinds of things to make a point.

CoffeeAndBiscuitsPlease · 12/05/2015 20:05

I listen to her and quite like her, but then, I listen to everything from Queen to Slipknot and Norah Jones to Nicki Minaj.

I find the kind of sexual shit disguised as bubblegum pop more influential to young girls, such as Katie Perry, Meghan Trainer...etc

I mean have you seen Meghan Trainers new song? First she sings an "empowering" song "All About That Bass" telling girls about not having to be skinny, then she follows on with a song called "Dear Future Husband" singing about giving him head if he's a good husband and showing her scrubbing the floors dressed as a typical housewife in her music videos.

LadyDeadpool · 12/05/2015 20:17

Sorry can't stand Megan Trainhor but her new song is not sexist in fact it is all in her favour and against her husband "know we'll never see your family more than mine" and this is the only sexual part I could find -
If you wanna get that special lovin'
Tell me I'm beautiful each and every night

After every fight
Just apologize
And maybe then I'll let you try and rock my body right
Even if I was wrong
