To wonder where all the Tory voters are?

All I've seen all day is messages about how disastrous the Tories carry on is.
Personally I don't see the problem (I didn't vote as recently moved house and didn't register in time).
But as far as I can see, Tories increased personal tax allowance so I'm better off and has at least cut the redicilous amount of benefits people are getting, which means I'm worse off as a working single parent but I've been saying for years how crazy it is the amount of money I've been given for getting myself pregnant and having to change my career. I have a much bigger disposable income than couples I know as my rent, council tax and childcare is paid.
However, Tories got most votes. But I'm wondering where they all are as it seems like everyone is against it.

What's the price of Ed Milibands house got to do with anything?

MuttonCadet · 08/05/2015 22:28

No crumpet, over 1 in 3 voted Tory and 2 out of 3 voted.

None of which is great, but you can't force people to vote.

crumpetbutter · 08/05/2015 22:29

Why do people go into threads on mumsnet that they don't want to contribute to? Bonkers.

Happfeet2911 · 08/05/2015 22:29

We are all down the pub celebrating, before we retire to our mansions! FFS what planet are some of you on, not every Tory voter is rich - that is as outdated as the archetypal image of the labour voter, cloth cap and union card.

AtSea1979 · 08/05/2015 22:29

Ah, thankyou for that stats makes much more sense now. I wasn't aware that rich people leaned towards Tory vote either. A number of working class people seem to have voted them due to the personal tax allowance (that's how I learnt that bit).

37% of electorate or 37% of those that bothered voting?

Surely you only have to take into account the views of those who bothered to vote? Those who couldn't be bothered don't care either way presumably?

crumpetbutter · 08/05/2015 22:33

'Surely you only have to take into account those that voted'

That isn't what the thread is asking.

So, one in three OF the two in three people that ACTUALLY voted were/are Tory.

IKnowIAmButWhatAreYou · 08/05/2015 22:34

Here you go - knock on a door anywhere coloured Blue and you've got a 30% chance of finding one of us.....

To wonder where all the Tory voters are?
grovel · 08/05/2015 22:36

Those who voted.

AtSea1979 · 08/05/2015 22:37

Oh I seem to live in a red area, that probably explains the fb rants then.

piggychops · 08/05/2015 22:39

You made the point that the Tories were all in their million pound houses, Tons but the former Labour leader also lives in one, and is married to someone who also has a rather large salary.

crumpetbutter · 08/05/2015 22:39

People on mumsnet THAT correct grammatical errors almost as tedious as THAT who go onto threads just to moan about THERE content.

Anyway, all of the stats are made. UKIP got double the amount of votes of SNP - or thereabouts - but just one seat.

We have a very strange system. Or maybe not fit for purpose anymore. Or maybe it is and we need to change our thinking about it. Lots to think about in the months and years ahead!

Stickytoffeepuddingplease · 08/05/2015 22:40

Tory voter here. Everyone I know Tory too.

piggychops · 08/05/2015 22:40

Ton

crumpetbutter · 08/05/2015 22:42

Not all Tory voters are rich. Not all Labour voters are poor. Lots of rich people don't work hard, lots of poor people do... sweeping generalisations just don't apply, and even less now than in previous years and elections.

Clawdy · 08/05/2015 22:43

This reminds me of the line from Brassed Off - "You never meet anyone who votes for them, but the buggers always seem to get in....."

Stickytoffeepuddingplease · 08/05/2015 22:44

I'm not living in a mansion, I don't earn a high salary and I never went to private school. Just a normal person who works hard as does DH and my family.

We are all Tory voters

hamiltoes · 08/05/2015 22:44

But I guess in some way I feel I should be struggling.

I'm sorry but why do you feel like you should be struggling?

Why can't life just be "not too bad, can't complain" for everyone at the very least? We are one of the wealthyest countries in the world, you work, you are raising the next generation of taxpayers. Why should you struggle Hmm??

Fairenuff · 08/05/2015 22:44

That isn't what the thread is asking.

It is exactly what the thread is asking. OP is not asking about the people who didn't vote, they are asking about those who did.

TondelayoSchwarzkopf · 08/05/2015 22:44

No piggy I said Tory voters were posting about their million houses and six figure salaries on certain Tory threads. Because the OP seemed to think that MN has no Tory voters.

Not sure what Ed has to do with it. Confused

AtSea1979 · 08/05/2015 22:44

crumpet you make a lot of sense. Thankyou for replying and not making me feel like a complete idiot, and everyone else too (except Margo obviously).

The Tories took my tax credits from me, but I still voted for them

I just work extra shifts to make up the loss.

funnyossity · 08/05/2015 22:46

I grew up in a Labour stronghold in a political family but even there I got to know a few tory voters over teh years. It came out as we talked current affairs / about the local MP etc and you find out. (if you can engage politely with people and not terrify them!)

Now I don't talk politics so much but I can guess a lot of people I know vote Tory. They are nice people, but usually coming at things from a different life experience.

AtSea1979 · 08/05/2015 22:49

hamiltoes I guess because my parents response to I'm pregnant was along lines of "well I can't believe you've thrown your career and life away", and with my upbringing I feel guilty to be on "hand outs". Despite working full time (albeit from well paid job to minimum wage)

AtSea1979 · 08/05/2015 22:50

hidden what happened to your tax creds? I still get them?
