To ask you to look at this before you decide to vote the same MP in

www.theyworkforyou.com

It allows you to see what your MP (before they dissolved) voted for and against, who their donors are, what they said, what they did and their expenses.

Worth looking at if you're thinking of voting the same person in and they're a knob or thinking about not voting for them and they're actually alright.

That isa brilliant site. I wish I'd known about it sooner.

namechangeafternamechange · 06/05/2015 22:08

Well that proved what I knew...my mp is a wet fish! Sits on the fence with very important issues, votes strongly against anything that would impede the beautiful life of the rich and strongly agreeing with moves that would make the working poor fall to their knees!

Guess what party she runs for Hmm

SwedishEdith · 06/05/2015 22:08

Bit depressing. Problem is, you can't see (obviously!) what the alternatives would vote for or against. You can guess, clearly but. Aargh!

Apatite1 · 06/05/2015 22:11

Great. I'm defintely voting for my MP who voted almost completely in my interests throughout. Thanks for this site!

tilder · 06/05/2015 22:14

Confirmed my views. My mp is a git. Definitely won't vote for them.

meandjulio · 06/05/2015 22:18

Blimey. I was almost swayed by that - my MP has voted for something I think is very important and which is against the general run of opinion in her party.

Nope, not swayed enough.

Bogeyface · 06/05/2015 22:19

Mine voted for the bedroom tax, increase of uni fees and to reduce funding to local government. Voted against gay equal rights, gay marriage, human rights and equality, the increase in financial support of the disabled and to provide guaranteed jobs for long term unemployed young people.

Yes, he is a Tory Cunt.

Apatite1 · 06/05/2015 22:21

I'd have never voted for my MP if he voted against gay rights and marriage. Thank goodness he didn't!

Mousefinkle · 06/05/2015 22:34

Thanks for this. Our local lib dem MP is a bit of a prick at best, I've just got angrier and angrier reading through that Grin. I've always voted lib dem so after reading that I'm even more glad I'm voting labour this time. Not entirely sure why he's lib dem, his views are clearly more in line with Tories...

Eversobusyeveryday · 06/05/2015 22:40

Bogey face, I think we have the same MP. On the grounds that he voted against gay marriage and equal rights for gay people I will never vote for him.

Bogeyface · 06/05/2015 22:41

IMO Lib Dems should be renamed "Fence Sitters UK". Although they are more right than left these days, so can safely be popped into the Tory Cunt category.

ilovesooty · 06/05/2015 22:44

Mine isn't exactly personally popular in my constituency but I'm happy that he's voted almost completely in accordance with my beliefs.

JazzAnnNonMouse · 06/05/2015 23:11

You can get updates from the website for the next lot of mps when they vote. You can make it really specific so say if there's one issue that you feel really strongly about you can just have an alert for that one thing. I think it allows a lot more interaction with mps and really holds them accountable for their decisions.

Brilliant thread OP Star Star Star Star Star

My MP will be voted in again. It's a VERY safe conservative seat. Sad His profile was exactly what you would expect but at least he voted for gay rights etc (sorry if wrong term) other than that he is a Tory Cunt. Angry

I've vote swapped so will be voting for the greens (I know who can believe it! Shock ). In return 'Matthew' who lives in a marginal seat will be voting 'on my behalf' for the party I think the least objectionable.

Radiatorvalves · 06/05/2015 23:51

I'm not a labour voter, but reasonably happy with incumbent labour MPs record. I am still going to "waste" my vote on the LibDems though.

Good link!

ExcuseTheTypos · 06/05/2015 23:52

I also think it's useful but potentially depressing to remind yourself if your local MPs to be were involved in the Expenses Scandal. It's such a good measure of someone's morals.

I haven't forgotten about it Smile.

JazzAnnNonMouse · 07/05/2015 07:40

It seems that most people and the media have forgotten about the expenses...scandals don't stay for long and they don't seem to get any action other than some head shaking

My MP voted well for me and badly for his party. He is also considered to be a good Conservative MP by quite left-leaning people. I have written to him numerous times, always asking for help with an issue and telling him that I'm sorry I don't vote for him. His replies are helpful, go above and beyond and are polite and nice. WHY can't he just run as an independent?

Anyway, the choice is moot now because I live overseas. I applied for a postal vote but my rule was that I couldn't be eligible to vote in two places (unfair) so now my new citizenship is on the cards, I'm not using my vote this year. I feel sort of fine that there won't be my vote against him, IYSWIM.

JazzAnnNonMouse · 07/05/2015 15:10

Sometimes it's really interesting when an mp votes against the party line

OP posts:
Dawndonnaagain · 07/05/2015 15:15

I told my MP this morning that he should be ashamed of himself.

googoodolly · 07/05/2015 15:15

Good link! I looked up my local MP and it basically reassured me that I did the right thing by not voting for him.

It doesn't make much difference here though, he'll get in anyway because it's been a conservative seat for years. Ho hum.

JazzAnnNonMouse · 07/05/2015 15:56

I was surprised by mine. She's much more left of labour than I expected which was a nice surprise as despite me voting green I'm certain labour will get in again here which actually I'm ok about now I've read that

OP posts:
JoolsSchmools · 07/05/2015 16:46

I knew mine was a total twat and that just proved it.
Think mine may be the same as Bogeyface too unless there's two of the twunts.

ouryve · 07/05/2015 17:00

I could do worse than mine. Nothing where his vote disagrees with my opinions is a dealbreaker.

JazzAnnNonMouse · 07/05/2015 17:15

It's useful - I think I'll be asking for updates on whoever gets in my area.
