Ex Lib-Dem voter and I will probably be voting Green even though they haven't a hope in hell of getting in where I live. There are no parties that represent me 100% and I feel like the Greens are offering a lot of fresh polices (as well as quite a few crazy ones) but I am ready for change.

I would vote Labour but I'm in a Tory seat and the only way our Tory candidate will lose is if the SNP make the predicted huge gains. So I think I might have to vote SNP to get the Tories out. I never thought the day would come.

timeandchancewin · 06/05/2015 16:48

Been ploughing through the Bbc policy guide for conservatives and labour and now at a point where they both seemed to have just blurred into one. They both seem to be trying to do exact,y the same thin but just slightly differently. Some policies for labour don't state how they will be funded and some particular issues are not mentioned at all by conservatives e.g bedroom tax? It's clear the will have to be cuts in spending and increase taxes, both parties have there good and bad policies, neither is outstanding.

OnlyLovers · 06/05/2015 16:49

I can't really think of any cons to being part of Europe but IMO there are many upsides – trade agreements and free movement to name just two.

JoanHickson · 06/05/2015 16:50

If you want to spoil your paper just put your name on it , if you make a mistake don't sign your name on the correction or your paper will be spoilt.

If you put a giant X through the whole paper they will give your vote to whom ever is nearest the middle of the cross.Shock

HesterShaw · 06/05/2015 16:52

The thing that alarms me about the prospect of a Europe in/out referendum is the amount of propaganda which will be pedalled. Even more than in a UK election, it will be desperately difficult to get hold of actual facts. And it scares me that people who don't know the first thing about it other than the fact that they're not keen on having people from the Balkans as neighbours, or Poles in their children's class, or hearing Slovakian spoken in the doctor's surgery, will have the chance to vote on something which is so utterly crucial for business and human rights. We keep being told by UKIP how much more money the country would have if we weren't having to pay into the EU - this conveniently ignores the fact that so many areas receive EU funding who have been otherwise forgotten about and ignored by Westminster. Do they honestly think that the money we don't spend on Europe would be magically pumped back into developing the deprived areas of the UK, like here in West Cornwall, or in some areas of Wales? Don't be daft! It would simply provide more tax breaks for the government's wealthy chums.

Withershins · 06/05/2015 16:54

I will write "We did nothing to deserve any of you", I figure that will be spoilt enough.

JazzAnnNonMouse · 06/05/2015 16:55

Green.

JazzAnnNonMouse · 06/05/2015 16:55

Dh is green too

Erudite · 06/05/2015 17:02

Lotta - I vote Tory because I am an evil, greedy, rich Bullingdon bastard who hates the poor, the sick, the disabled and anyone who doesn't live in Chipping Norton.

Why else would anyone all the millions that will tomorrow and likely be a majority vote for such evil bastards? Hmm

drbonnieblossman · 06/05/2015 17:03

Have spent the last week reading up and most likely it'll be Tory I think.

Worryingly, I did one of the online quizzes and it said I should vote UKIP which isn't something to entertain, broadly, for me. Although I did like a couple of their policies but not enough to vote for them and ignore the policies which unfuriAte me.

OnlyLovers · 06/05/2015 17:04

Come on, Erudite, that's hardly fair. Lotta said she genuinely wanted to know and wouldn't call you names. Can we have a sensible discussion about it?

zen1 · 06/05/2015 17:09

Varya, I voted for the NHAP in my local elections. Unfortunately, they aren't fielding a candidate in my area for the General, so I will be voting Green.

Erudite · 06/05/2015 17:10

Are you serious, Onlylovers?

You really want to know why most people who vote , vote Tory? Really? You don't know/have lived in a cave for the past six months?

Because they have turned the economy around, lowered unemployment, tackled the bloated welfare state, rewarded hard work, taken the poor out of tax , introduced the pupil premium, redirected financial support away from CB for teh comfortably off to those who need it and are restoring Britain to a booming and vibrant economy.

maninawomansworld · 06/05/2015 17:10

I am voting Conservative.
Our MP is very good for the area, he is from a farming background and understands rural issues. Labour and the Greens are the enemy of the countryside. Lib Dems are just a bit wet behind the ears.

The Conservatives have also made a good start on sorting the economy after the mess Labour left them with. It would be nice if they could get rid of the dead weight that is the Lib Dems and have a Tory majority this time to let them just crack on with the job!

cashewnutty · 06/05/2015 17:13

Our seat has been safe LD seat for years. However the much esteemed LD candidate has now retired so it could all be up for grabs. Tory has always had the next highest number of votes in this seat.

I think i will vote Labour, DD will vote Green and DH has already voted LD but he now regrets his choice.

Erudite · 06/05/2015 17:14

Can we have a sensible discussion about it?

I'd love a sensible discussion. Sadly, as soon as people start questioning if those who vote Tory have a social conscience or accuse them of being evil racists then that conversation is over.

DoorsAndWater · 06/05/2015 17:15

Labour here in both local and General, Tories have decimated local government in my opinion, lots of pet projects here, I just can't trust them

OnlyLovers · 06/05/2015 17:17

Erudite, no, I haven't lived in a cave for the past six months. Hmm

I asked a calm and civilised question backing up a calm and civilised question from someone else. I didn't expect and I don't appreciate such a snappish response.

I'll not be engaging with you further on this thread.

derxa · 06/05/2015 17:17

Don't know

HesterShaw · 06/05/2015 17:18

I think personally that the lowering of unemployment is absolutely meaningless if what it actually means in reality is that loads of these jobs are part time zero hours contracts and so poorly paid that they need to be topped up by welfare payments, and that the other thing helping these employment figures is that there are loads of young people being forced to stay on in education even though they are completely unsuited to it, so that they are not in any unemployment statistics. I personally don't think that's the sign of a booming and vibrant economy actually Erudite. And wasn't the news just out that the economy isn't growing nearly as fast as it was claimed (not that I think a perpetually"growing economy" is a particular sign of anything good, when the earth's resources are finite.)

lostlalaloopsy · 06/05/2015 17:19

SNP

AGnu · 06/05/2015 17:22

I had been thinking about voting Green but I've been doing more research on their policies today & come to the conclusion that, although they're highly unlikely to gain any significant power, I can't vote for them.

I think I'll probably just scrawl "YABU" over the paper - none of the parties currently available in my area represent how I'd like the country run.

Daft question - will I get separate papers for local & general elections? I may or may not wish to vote for someone locally... Not that I've decided who though! Confused

BestIsWest · 06/05/2015 17:24

Labour to keep out the Conservatives in this constituency. But have a growing respect for Plaid Cymru as they are a more truly socialist party than Labour these days.

BestIsWest · 06/05/2015 17:25

Yes you will get separate papers for local and General election.

YouTheCat · 06/05/2015 17:25

What Hester said - very well put!

Labour here.

I'd like an NHS not sold off to the Tory donors. And I'd like to see Gove's friends give back all those deeds they were given that were previously school land held by local councils.

I'd like to see the sick and disabled not have to live in abject poverty because of reasons they cannot help. I'd like to see a living wage and an end to zero hours contracts.
