DH been offered Wimbledon tickets with Corporate entertaining as part of his new job. I've never been before. But I've just realised it's my DDs Sports Afternoon that day.

I have to go to Sports day dont I?

I'm gutted for you but I would put sports day first.

esiotrot2015 · 04/05/2015 10:37

Could grandparents go to sports day in your place ?

OwlBeeBack · 04/05/2015 10:39

What would your dd think? My Dcs aren't that bothered about sports day and would tell me to go to Wimbledon if faced with that choice,

AuntieStella · 04/05/2015 10:41

How old is DD, and how sporty is she?

Do you have a granny handy?

Topseyt · 04/05/2015 10:43

I'd go to Wimbledon, but then mine are at secondary school now.

I went to primary school sports days all bar one (was in hospital having DD3 5 weeks early), but I didn't like them and don't miss them.

Are there grandparents nearby who could go in your place?

I would be very reluctant to give up the Wimbledon trip. I'd probably go anyway.

firesafety · 04/05/2015 10:43

I'd be at Wimbledon. Probably. :motherofteens:

Grandparents? Aunt/uncle? Close family friend?

How old is DD?

Tommy · 04/05/2015 10:45

Wimbledon definitely!
It's quite tricky to get tickets and you can go to sports day any year.
Make sure there is someone to cheer him on - friend, granny etc and go to Wimbledon
(if you don't - I'll have your ticket Grin )

fiveacres · 04/05/2015 10:45

Oh, go to Wimbledon! Gosh, I wouldn't even need to think about this, I must admit!

Shirleycantbe · 04/05/2015 10:51

Ooh I was expecting everyone to say Sports day! My 2 DDs are 10 (not sporty at all) and 7 (very sporty).

Might have to have a rethink and speak to my mum about it...

Sports Day, there's only a few of those left before secondary school. Myou can watch Wimbledon on the TV if you find tennis interesting.

manicinsomniac · 04/05/2015 10:55

I'd go to Wimbledon! That's a pretty special, one off kind of chance. Sports Day happens every year.

I'm at my kids' sports day every year but I rarely see them compete because I teach at the school and am invariably stuck raking the sand pit all day! Same with plays - I'm generally always backstage. Children get over it.

ilovesooty · 04/05/2015 11:00

Surely a lot of people work and never get to sports day at all.
Wimbledon tickets are a rare opportunity.

Dowser · 04/05/2015 11:04

Wimbledon. Definitely.

That's what grannies are for!

BeaufortBelle · 04/05/2015 11:06

Not sure where you live OP but can't you do sports day, be away by about 3pm having arrange "teas" for the DC or possibly your mum to come and look after them and hop on a train to Wimbledon and join your DH for the champagne bit and possibly some evening tennis which will almost certainly continue until about 8.30pm - especially if during the first week? Unless you are miles and miles away I think you can kill two birds with one stone here and your husband's colleagues will give you extra brownie points for being a good mum and having the confidence to tip up on your own. Have a Mnet gin on the way though because they'll all be pissed when you arrive and there's nothing so tiresome as pissed people when you are sober.

CSIJanner · 04/05/2015 11:10

What would your DC say if hu ask them? Besides try to extort some other treat from you and get GP's to spoil them in the day.

Remember - sports days can usually change due to weather.

Topseyt · 04/05/2015 11:13

Been thinking further.

Wimbledon all the way here. You may not get the opportunity again, and school sports day just doesn't compare at all. Doesn't even come close.

Wimbledon. You know you'll regret it if you don't, and there is only so much putting the kids first that you really want to do if your mum is willing to have them.

limitedperiodonly · 04/05/2015 11:17

Go to Wimbledon. I've had a lot of corporate tickets. You get there for about 11.30am and go to the corporate suite for champagne, lunch at noon, everyone out by 1pm with tickets for either Centre Court or Number 1 Court.

You nip back from 4pm for tea and cakes and have somewhere to store your belongings and go to the loo.

It's fantastic. Lucky you.

wigglesrock · 04/05/2015 11:17

I wouldn't even have to think twice, I'd be away to Wimbeldon without a backward glance. Sports day just doesn't seem to be that big a deal where I am. I know very few people who take the day off work for it, I've went to work, the dentist, etc on it.

TheFallenMadonna · 04/05/2015 11:19

I haven't been to Sports Day for 7 years (teacher). My mum goes and sends me whatsapp updates, which I go through with DD after school.

rumbleinthejungle · 04/05/2015 11:20

Wimbledon. It always rains on sports day so is rescheduled - like Wimbledon really!

ilovesooty · 04/05/2015 11:21

Until I came on here I didn't even know that parents going to sports day was even expected.

fiveacres · 04/05/2015 11:22

It's really really boring, ilovesooty

so is the nativity play

watchingthedetectives · 04/05/2015 11:22

Definitely Wimbledon - I had to miss a few sports days because of work and the DCs were not in the slightest bothered.

tictactoad · 04/05/2015 11:28

Wimbledon every time.

Sports Day sucks.

wigglesrock · 04/05/2015 11:47

ilovesooty - I mentioned once on MN that I hadn't been to my eldest daughters first sports day - it was tantamount to admitting I had dressed her in head to toe pink sparkles from birth complete with matching hair band and earrings whilst she was swigging from a bottle filled with coke Smile
