To think Lowri Turner is a massive twat?

Googling tips on caring for DD's hair, and I came across this article (it is old)

Lowri Turner on being the mother of a mixed race child

Amongst other things, she talks of being dismayed her friend says DD is getting darker, and says anyone in an interracial relationship is trying to make a statement.

Maybe it just struck a chord with me, after someone told me when DD was a few weeks old that they would find it weird having a baby a different colour to them, but AIBU to think this was really shitty of Lowri?

I have thought she was an idiot for years.

She did a piece for an inflight magazine about travelling with children.

Her advice was pick flight times where they will sleep, take something to entertain them like colouring books and if all else fails 'give them a big dose of calpol, let them sleep and order yourself a g&t'

So during a flight you should entertian your child or drug them up.

This just compounds my opinion of her.

Dowser · 03/05/2015 08:26

She's the new healthy living messiah isn't she?

Crocodopolis · 03/05/2015 08:34

Very nice - from the article linked above, Turner says that when she tells people her sister is autistic, there is a horrified silence so she says that she is one of twins.

I have autism. Thanks a lot, Lowri Turner. So sorry that the existence of people like myself so offends you that you pretend we don't exist.

Superexcited · 03/05/2015 08:37

I had to google to make sure about the triplet thing as I can't actually believe that somebody would be so cuntish, but to my horror it is absolutely true. Her triplet has autism and a learning disability and Lowri can't stand people's reactions to that so called herself a twin instead.
She is just a big cunt.

Stitchintime1 · 03/05/2015 09:09

I think there are all kinds of wrong with the article - especially the timing. But that's what some women journalists do. They sell their inner feelings to papers. Men do it but not so much. They tend to sell their ideas.

But I think it is very believable and, while not pretty, interesting. She discovered she was less liberal than she thought. She wasn't as easy with difference as she thought. She had to think about whether she was a decent unprejudiced, unjudging person and discovered that she wasn't. She realised that she shared many preconceptions that she thougtht her boho upbringing and education had freed her from.

It is offensive in many ways but I think she found herself quite offensive too.

Stitchintime1 · 03/05/2015 09:11

A lot of people think they are not offensive and not prejudiced and not carrying around a shed load of social baggage and they are and they can't see it.

Notyouagaintoday · 03/05/2015 09:11

I didn't have an opinion on her before, but the twin/triplet thing is just ugly. Yanub to think she is a indeed a massive twat.

revealall · 03/05/2015 09:11

I thought she just sounded honest.

As a mixed race child myself I can tell you there are plenty of cultural differences if you live in the country. Heaving an Indian mother who married a farmer brought that right home. There aren't any black or Asian farmers so no one in my rural setting looked like me.
Even now there are no racists as such but an assumption from people that I live in a town, am vegetarian, can speak another language etc.. So not just Lowri by a long shot.

Stitchintime1 · 03/05/2015 09:13

I've just googled the triplet thing and I can't see a reference to her being ashamed. She was asked if she didn't mentin her because she was ashamed and that made her angry.

Stitchintime1 · 03/05/2015 09:17

And not seeing someone's race (which is often held up as the gold standard of non prejudice) is not necessarily good if they hold an identify that is predicated to any degree on race.

It's like when people say "I don't care if your're black, white, green, polka-dotted etc.." It's the green and multi-coloured that gives away the fact they haven't given the matter any real thought. Because there is no such thing as green or polka dot people tand they are equating equating imposibilities with realities.

Stitchintime1 · 03/05/2015 09:18

Sorry, tons of typos there.

ComposHatComesBack · 03/05/2015 09:25

She's also got form for homophobia suggesting gay people shouldn't be able to hold political office as their lifestyle wasn't normal.

She's basically a pound shop Katie Hopkins.

Stitchintime1 · 03/05/2015 09:30

Just googled her comments on gay people - I really must get out more! - and she's bang out of order there.

ClumsyNinja · 03/05/2015 09:43

I like Lowrie and don't think she's a bit like Katie Hopkins at all.

I've never met her in real life but 99% of the posters slating her here haven't either so I guess my point of view is as valid as the next persons.

ComposHatComesBack · 03/05/2015 09:58

She's not like Katie Hopkins how?

Making deliberately inflammatory comments in order to generate publicity. Although to give Lowri her due she was at it when all La Hopkins was known for was flouncing off the apprentice and riding someone else's husband.

Unless you actually think she believes those hateful bigoted things? (Not sure of that's better or worse)

Crocodopolis · 03/05/2015 10:07

Clumsy, I have had to edit my response to you because I am sure that if I said what I wanted to, I would be booted off of MN.

ClumsyNinja · 03/05/2015 10:23

Croc, say what you like, it won't upset me. Its just words on a screen, after all.

I stated I like Lowrie, you obviously don't. I don't like Katie Hopkins at all but again, I haven't met her either.

Crocodopolis · 03/05/2015 10:34

Ninja, I wouldn't waste my breath: I won't get in the mud with the pig because I'll only get dirty and the pig will enjoy it.

RustyParker · 03/05/2015 10:34

Pretty cuntish to use other peoples reactions to her having an autistic triplet as an excuse to refer to herself as a twin. In the age of the internet, she can't avoid people finding out she is a triplet but I'm pretty sure it took a long time of her denying it before it came out.

She's the Aldi Katie Hopkins.

helenahandbag · 03/05/2015 10:35

This is weird, I was looking for 'clean eating' books on Amazon a couple of days ago and a cook book by Lowri Turner popped up. My first thought was 'is Lowri Turner still relevant?'

I didn't realise that she was such a horrible person.

Keletubbie · 03/05/2015 10:39

She's a vulgar little woman and should definitely be shipped off to sea with Hopkins.

I'm biracial, and so is my daughter. At no point did her father or I need to grieve about her appearance before she arrived... and neither did mine.

Scarily, DD and I look like clones.

SoleSource · 03/05/2015 10:46

I have always disliked this Woman. I recall her saying she told her relatives and friends not to dare to but her any baby gifts in primary colours.

Lowri is a complete and utter stomach churning, cringe worthy snob.

Maybe she doesn't publicly acknowledge her disabled Sister because she finds other peoples opinions and questioning of her upsetting?

ComposHatComesBack · 03/05/2015 10:49

ninja

Having met/not met Hopkins or Turner is a complete red herring as i suspect you knowknow that. Can no one pass a judgement on David Cameron and his conduct as prime minister unless you've met him, or critique an artist's body of work unless you've met them personally ?

It isnt like the world has taken an arbitrary dislike of them. Both women have aired their views in public to such an extent that people can or do make a judgement on them, their their views andand what motivates them.

BadgersNadgers · 03/05/2015 11:34

Part of the grief I am going through with my daughter is the loss of the possibility that she will look like me

She isn't just a twat, she's an egotistical twat (with a magic mirror)
