To ask what about the *nationalist* bit in SNP and Plaid Cymru?

Posting here for traffic as it could seriously influence the way I vote.
I'm attracted by the anti-austerity message in their campaigns..but..
Thinking about Plaid Cymru-are they really for everyone living in Wales? I understand the necessity of preserving the unique culture and language-but does this mean that English people living in Wales and non Welsh speaking Welsh people would be well represented by Plaid.
(I have learned Welsh but can't achieve fluency?)
In Scotland too-Is there anti-English sentiment?
Looking for opinions rather than a row. No-one seems to ask this on TV.
Should there be free movement of people within the UK?

Wasn't it Snp who pledged to have small primary classes?

And they've cut a lot of FE places.

But they'll say that's because they don't get enough revenue from Westminster - even though Scotland gets more per head than Wales.

Yes, they pledged smaller class sizes and made a big hoo-hah about it. They talk about the 'greatness' of Scottish universities, when jobs are being axed all over the place. Education is devolved to Hollyrood. While I'm sure the situation isn't great anywhere, the SNP is making its own mess, too. It's the smugness that gets me. I like living in Scotland. I like the overall left-wing focus. I'd rather be here than down south any day. However, as things are going, I'm going to have to leave at some point and follow where the jobs are. Unless something radical happens, I. 5-10 years, Scottish higher education is going to be so inferior & there will be no jobs left.

Anyway, I'm pulling this a little bit off course. I just hate the SNP smarminess and refusal to stand up to reality. In this respect, they're no better than the Tories.

Sorry, that was meant to read in 5-10 years.

chocoluvva · 04/05/2015 13:35

I completely agree with you about the snp.

littlejohnnydory · 04/05/2015 18:29

Cymry doesn't mean 'The Welsh', fuckyouchrisandthathorse - it's just a misspelling of Cymru and has no meaning.

FuckYouChrisAndThatHorse · 04/05/2015 18:39

yes it does Johnnydory.

That's exactly what it means. What a weird post Confused

FuckYouChrisAndThatHorse · 04/05/2015 18:44

If it's any help (no idea if you're a Welsh speaker or not, I am), it's the plural of Cymro.

MoominKoalaAndMiniMoom · 04/05/2015 20:10

littlejohnny Cymry is 'the Welsh', the people of Wales.
