For those of you who have seen this Nivea ad, AIBU to think it's shitty?

I get what they're doing, the mum is older than she looks and the young girlfriend can't believe it.

But people actually do have babies at very young ages. As much as it's not ideal it happens and this advert suggests that it obviously doesn't happen.

Also, shouldn't this little madam know it's rude to comment on someone's age. Especially if she HAD infact had him at 12.

And breathe.

i havent seen the advert, so can only comment on what you have written....

so in that vein, Yes YABU! its supposed to be a compliment in the way of "you look so young because of the NIVEA you are using"

talk about looking for something to get upset about.... (again only commenting on what you have written)

ScaryMaryHinge · 30/04/2015 16:54

I saw this ad the other day, it certainty made me Hmm.

CarryOnCramping · 30/04/2015 16:56

I probably should have clarified tht the thread is meant to be slightly lighthearted. I'm not actually distraught or anything. But I still think my points are valid.

Of course I understand why they've done it. But as someone who actually is a young mum and gets this a lot...I think it's a shitty advert.

ScaryMary

Glad it's not just me then

I saw this the other day and it made me laugh as all my friends used to say the same to me about my mum as she's alway looked so much younger than she is.

I too have had "God you must've been a kid yourself when you had him!" Kind of comments when I had DS. People who say things like that are just bloody rude but that isn't what I get from the advert at all.

ahbollocks · 30/04/2015 18:40

Yanbu!!!!! Saw this today and my jaw HIT the floor.
'Do was your mum a victim of statutory rape?!' Lols!

Seriously what the actual fuck

Akire · 30/04/2015 18:42

It's so cringeworthy, considering girls have babies now at 12/13 you are more likely to think well did she?!

MangoJuggler · 30/04/2015 18:44

Yes I winced too. I think they've not Thought It Through, them Ad Agency folks.

SingingHinnies · 30/04/2015 18:46

15, dad 14 Shock

AuntyMag10 · 30/04/2015 18:56

Yabu, it's just an ad!

morethanpotatoprints · 30/04/2015 18:58

I loved it and immediately fb future dil to look out for it, with an added that's the way to treat your future mil.
She thought it was funny and has been dryly making nice comments ever since Grin

AmyElliotDunne · 30/04/2015 18:59

My DM always found it really rude when people said that to her about my DB, as she looked fab for her age. (Might not have helped that she was abused at around that age, so it was sadly possible - sorry to bring down the lighthearted tone!)

It's a weird advert that's for sure.

BeaufortBelle · 30/04/2015 19:04

Sorry, totally confused. My mum was 23 when she had me and was a model. People always commented that we might be sisters. I had my first at 35 and last at 38. People have never said that and I wish, sometimes, they had. I think it's meant as a compliment - a bit how I'd take a wolf whistle but I don't those any more either.

Be glad nobody's asking if you're your child's grandma - and no I haven't been asked that either but I have a friend who's only three years older than me who has

Littlecaf · 30/04/2015 19:09

This thread is so going to end up as a Daily Fail article...... "Mumsnet accuses Nivea of encouraging teen pregnancy" etc etc

YouBetterWerk · 30/04/2015 19:15

I saw it first time today and you are definitely NBU.
Creepy and weird as fuck.

Frolicacid · 30/04/2015 19:18

YANBU!
My jaw hit the floor. It's just not funny.

shewept · 30/04/2015 19:20

I haven't seen it, but from what you put yanbu.

I second what ahbollocks said.

Bogeyface · 30/04/2015 19:23

I have had that said to me because I dont look my age and I had my son at 17 so people do sometimes think that I must have had him very young.

I dont see the issue, its an advert not a documentary commenting on the dire state of the country with regards to pre-teen pregnancy.....

ImNameyChangey · 30/04/2015 19:24

YANBU it's terrible!

oddfodd · 30/04/2015 19:25

I agree with you OP. Particularly as DS is in a class with a child who's sister was born when his mum was 12.

Really not light-hearted and actually quite grim

WhirlpoolGalaxyM51 · 30/04/2015 19:34

I'm bored so thought I'd try and find a link to the ad and all I found is one on MSE where someone has posted the same thing as the OP! So you aren't alone OP.

Obviously not seen it, hence looking for link, but I agree with you, children having babies at 12 is not unheard of, so the message is a bit grim really isn't it.

SingingHinnies · 30/04/2015 19:36

As me and my parent's have aged I think I have aged (sunbed's in the 90's) worse than them so the 15/14 year gap look's less, people don't believe they are my parents which is not helped by people telling my DM she look's like she's in her late 30's but that's what i am and probably look it.

SingingHinnies · 30/04/2015 19:37

she must have used nivea

Bodyinpyjamas10 · 30/04/2015 19:41

It's a bit distasteful I think.

oddfodd · 30/04/2015 19:41

who's? whose Blush
