'How old was your mum when she had you? 12?'

For those of you who have seen this Nivea ad, AIBU to think it's shitty?

I get what they're doing, the mum is older than she looks and the young girlfriend can't believe it.

But people actually do have babies at very young ages. As much as it's not ideal it happens and this advert suggests that it obviously doesn't happen.

Also, shouldn't this little madam know it's rude to comment on someone's age. Especially if she HAD infact had him at 12.

And breathe.

oddfodd get a life, i'm on my phone, I take it if people have a lower standard of education than you or have a learning disability they really shouldn't post on mumsnet because the will embarrass themselves

I would be embarrassed to be you more than I am at myself Blush Blush

Second thread i have been pulled up on in 5 mins, I better go back to school and get off my phone with autocorrect

SingingHinnies · 30/04/2015 20:06

the = they obviously unless you can't understand that

iLoveFlop · 30/04/2015 20:08

Jesus hinnies, she was correcting HER OWN mistake.

I think you owe her an apology.

iLoveFlop · 30/04/2015 20:10

'Her' being oddfodd, sorry that was rude of me.

Providore · 30/04/2015 20:10

Ermm, she was correcting HERSELF. Hit a raw nerve did it?

SingingHinnies · 30/04/2015 20:10

Oh shit sorry odd, i read it wrong everytime i type something wrong i get abuse about it. Now i really am Blush.

SingingHinnies · 30/04/2015 20:14

i didn't click back and thought she was correcting my typing when she was correcting her own and ranted

oddfodd · 30/04/2015 20:24

:o

Apology accepted. I never correct other people's spelling and grammar ftr - only my own!

IslandintheStreamIng · 30/04/2015 20:35

Slightly irrelevant, but I wanted to mention that Henry VII's mother was only 12 or 13 when she gave birth to him in C15. So young motherhood not exclusively a modern phenomenum.

SingingHinnies · 30/04/2015 20:45

Odd i feel really awful and really embarrassed, i really shouldnt use MN on my phone, i just jumped to conclusions after getting ribbed for my English elsewhere which isnt the best to start with , i struggled at school with an undiagnosed problem and should do them over as i quite often use the wrong words. Its made worse due to my phone and i didnt hit page back. I need my pc fixed so decided to try it on the phone but seems im making problems for myself as i struggle to read and correct the small letters. No excuse i really should have read the thread before ranting that at you like that.

Gruntfuttock · 30/04/2015 21:14

I know you've apologised, but how on earth could Oddfodd have been correcting you when you hadn't even used the word (who's) that she corrected?

PHANTOMnamechanger · 30/04/2015 21:23

I have not seen the ad but agree, alluding to people having babies at 12, in a jocular manner, is very bad taste.

only yesterday I was reading about a 10yo, pg having been raped by her stepfather, pg only discovered at about 20 weeks when she complained of tummy pains and was taken to hospital - her mother is fighting for her to be allowed an abortion because continuing with the pg might endanger her life.

Trills · 30/04/2015 21:32

Maragaret Beaufort had Henry Tudor (Henry VII) at 12.

Trills · 30/04/2015 21:32

Snap IsalandInTheStreaming ! :o

Trills · 30/04/2015 21:35

They could easily have done the same advert with an exclamation of

I thought that was your big sister!

(feel free to tell horrific stories of big sisters who turned out to be mothers...)

TheEggityOddity · 30/04/2015 21:47

I said to myneighbour. "Wow is he your son? You look too young!" when we first met, meant as a compliment. She then went on to say she was indeed too young and had regretted it. I felt so bad and very rude Sad

chrome100 · 30/04/2015 23:37

YABU. It's just an advert.

MrsHathaway · 30/04/2015 23:43

Slightly irrelevant, but I wanted to mention that Henry VII's mother was only 12 or 13 when she gave birth to him in C15. So young motherhood not exclusively a modern phenomenum.

Lady Margaret very nearly died doing so. It was hugely frowned upon at the time to actually impregnate such a young child (bear in mind their puberty and growth was a bit earlier than ours). She could never have another baby as she was completely ruined by him.

Not a good precedent to cite, tbh.

myusernameisusername · 01/05/2015 02:28

Made me cringe like crazy i wish my MIL was that nice though

987flowers · 01/05/2015 06:45

All I remember thinking is that the mum didn't look very young at all to have a son that age!!

PushAPushPop · 01/05/2015 09:03

I miss the days when people thought DD was my sister.

Whenever anyone asked how old I was when I had her I always replied, "Not old enough" Grin

SandysMam · 01/05/2015 13:32

That's terrible!!

Icimoi · 01/05/2015 14:30

The odd thing is that whoever wrote the ad doesn't seem to realise that it could actually be a bit of an insult to the person being addressed. If someone told me I only looked 12 years younger than my mother, I'm likely to think they mean that I look 20 years older than I actually am.
