To think The Sun front page is really quite sinister?

Sun have done their usual pre-election front page, this time headlined "It's a Tory!", with a picture of a newborn being cuddled in blankets. Newborn's head is david cameron's. It's hideous.

Aside from that, does anyone else find it really quite sinister in terms of not-so-subtle meaning?

It might backfire, if that's what a Tory victory looks like ....

hackmum · 30/04/2015 09:06

Yes, it is rather sinister. It's reminiscent of that time they put Neil Kinnock's face inside a lightbulb and said "Will the last person to leave Britain please turn off the lights?"

I see the Scottish edition of the Sun is backing the SNP.

blue42 · 30/04/2015 09:07

I'm not certain "backfire" is quite the right word - looks to me like a very backhanded endorsement, and a fairly implicit threat. Not that I give a damn, it just struck me as particularly odd.

I don't think for one second that the editorial team are as moronic as they try to make out. I'm pretty sure there's a very specific reason they've done this.

I think the Sun is sinister full stop.

ratspeaker · 30/04/2015 09:08

Take it you've not seen the Scottish edition where they have Nicola dressed as Princess Leia.
Yes they're backing the SNP up here.

Not that I would ever buy that paper.

TwinkieTwinkle · 30/04/2015 09:09

The two front pages.

BettyCatKitten · 30/04/2015 09:10

It is very odd and weird!

SagaNorensLeatherTrousers · 30/04/2015 09:14

Vile. I hate how biased journalism is these days.

BigRedBall · 30/04/2015 09:14

I don't get it. Some one explain please.

blue42 · 30/04/2015 09:19

I've seen the Scottish one, yes. Although it's equally hideous, Sturgeon is pictured as a heroine and a fighter. Shiny Face is pictured as a helpless dependent - which is quite true, but a very odd way of endorsing your preferred prime minister.

They are simply saying what Murdoch wants them to say. He is power-crazed and loves to meddle in politics.

CaptainAnkles · 30/04/2015 09:22

It made me feel rather ill. I hope they don't have any influence over the way their readership votes. The paper can proclaim what they predict as much as they want but hopefully nobody will be swayed just because a paper prints a disturbing picture of Cameron depicted as a massive headed baby.

meglet · 30/04/2015 09:23

yanbu. horrible.

reminds me of Rosemary's Baby

meglet · 30/04/2015 09:26

blue shiny Dave is a helpless dependent, of Murdoch.

blue42 · 30/04/2015 09:28

CaptinAnkles, the Sun endorsement is one of the most powerful in media land. Plenty of people vote based on their front pages, sadly.

CrystalCove · 30/04/2015 09:29

Agree with Sallyforth.

lucysnowe · 30/04/2015 09:30

Heh, I think it's quite funny with the obvious Labour pun and the also obvious association with the Royal Baby. The Scottish one looks fun as well although Princess Leia Sturgeon is a little odd looking.

(not a Tory voter, just like puns and fun front pages)

blue42 · 30/04/2015 09:30

blue shiny Dave is a helpless dependent, of Murdoch.

Yes, I know, that's what I'm saying.

Cynical vileness from the Murdoch camp. Sun readers both north and south of the border hopefully aware of the covers running in Scotland and England.

Steven fry and huge laurie, hit the nail on the head when they did a sketch called What if Rupert Murdoch hadn't never been born

I think the paper has a lot of influence over how their readers vote. This is accomplished by not so subtle stories and 'facts' drip fed to them over the years.

One of my relatives reads the Daily Mail and all of her conversations are based around things she has read in it. It's scary how much influence it seems to have over her.

TwartFaceBeetj · 30/04/2015 10:01

The thing is conservatives would rather the Scottish vote snp then labour. Because if labour win most of the seats in Scotland then labour could/possibly win the election outright.
But if it were to go to a hung parliament torys have a chance of a coalition again.

BBC this morning was making a big deal out of the sun having conflicting opinions north and south of the boarder.
But that's not the case both Suns are following orders.
Divide and conquer

Tbh I find it a bit distasteful that they've cut out the head of Prince George leaving the hospital with his parents and replaced him with David Cameron.

I can't quite explain why I feel that way, but I admit I would probably be upset if someone tinkered with a photo of my child to replace their head with someone else's.
