To want to bang my head against a brick wall regarding dh's TV habits?

So:

He is currently watching Dinner Date.
He watches that rubbish dating one Saturday...had to ask him what it's called...Take Me Out, that's it.
Also Britain's Got Talent and The Voice. Hmm

Occasionally silly films that he watches a quarter of, in between flicking between another silly film.

And nothing else. Nothing I would be interested in (not much anyway, but I'm sure I could find something more interesting).
Drives me bananas.
I suppose I should be grateful he doesn't watch Big Brother.

Tell me I am not alone.

That motorway series was pretty interesting Grin
We have similar tastes and are very tolerant of each other's viewing in general. Having a TV in the playroom and a radio in the garage also helps...
The one tiny thing that bugs me is his mild obsession with the rewind button on Sky Plus. He can make one episode of TBBT last around 45 minutes with the stop/rewind/play thing at times if he doesn't hear jokes properly.
It's getting better though. It used to be an hour until I threatened to take his toy away

We pretty much have the same taste in TV (I've trained him well Smile). But the teenagers in the house are obsessed with Storage Wars, Come Dine With Me and Big Bang Theory and can need quite a lot of persuasion to relinquish the remote.

I really hate Storage Wars, it's based around vultures carving up the belongings of people who've not been able to pay to reclaim their stuff.

Netball yes, the first time I saw a storage place with children's stuff in was the last time I watched it. A family's belonging thrown out as junk was horrible to watch.

I did watch an episode of hoarders. The woman's house was terrible. Way past the disgusting ones we used to see on how clean is your house? When they finally sorted it out they found $4000 in loose change and dollar bills.

The motorway one sounds quite appealing, actually. See, I'm not fussy. Ed, motorways, even war.

We did collectively watch a couple of episodes of Indian Summers thing on C4, but it was a bit late for me Blush.

Dh doesn't really hog the TV; if I wanted to watch something he wouldn't mind, but I don't feel that passionately about anything on TV.

I just hate the mindless stuff he watches.
And the flicking.

Dp loves war stuff too. And boats. And ships. Especially ships. It's a form of porn for him I think. I don't mind, I can play about on my kindle on here but I get "look at that ship, that's like the one I served on in 1856" or "I know him".

Worst ever is the island parish series which is running on Fridays at the moment. It's a documentary about the Falklands and he's been everywhere, knows everyone, has them all as friends on Facebook and every week I get "I went for dinner in their house" "I've been there, that's pebble island" "I've stayed there" "I know him" I FUCKING KNOW!!! YOU TOLD ME LAST WEEK!!

Bless him :o

Not DH but Fil watches sky sports news. All day long. When we go to visit, we end up watching the same bloody stories over and over again. And if they pay us a visit, FIL puts it on as soon as he gets in, whether the tv is on or not!

mine likes to watch at least three programs that are on at the same time by constantly hopping between each one drives me up the wall even though I am sitting at my computer and not watching the frigging tv

somewheresomehow, my sentiments exactly. It feels a bit selfish, as I am not even the watching the drivel programme. But somehow it still winds me up.

What does wind me up is when he has the remote control in his hand all night he goes ballistic if he cannot put his hand on it immediately, tis usually under the cushion on his door.

Also when I put headphones to watch summat on lappy, the ads come on his programme so he deigns to talk to me, I do not hear immediately because of headphones so he then moans that he is Billy no mates and does not know why he bothers to sit with me in the evening. Angry

I reckon there is whole PhD to be done on how TV habits reveal some inner subconscious/ deep character traits/ underlying thoughts/ buried feelings or summat.

Having just recently moved in with DP, the first week we had joint decisions but now in the lounge it's:

English football
Spanish football
English football
Spanish football
Scottish football
English football
English football
Spanish football
Scottish football
German football
English football
American "soccer"
Sky Sports news
English football
Spanish football

Repeat...

He has useful advice though "watch it on your tablet or in the bedroom?"

There is an amazing new invention out. It is called 'another television' or if you are really inventive 'Tinternet' where you can ferret out actual interesting stuff.

Report
MerryMarigold · 01/05/2015 09:07

Yes, we have 'Tinternet' on the very amazing invention of 'Laptop'. I just can't bear to hear the rubbish in the background as I do feel it's important to at least be in the company of H even if we're doing different things. And that occasionally it would be nice to watch something together, but nothing he flicks to ever catches my interest!

He should watch First Dates if he likes Dinner Date, it's really funny watching people making cringeworthy conversation with a stranger!

And The Undateables is wonderful. There's an element of the other cringey dating shows, but generally the people on there end up meeting someone they really like, it's heartwarming as many of them have never been on a single date before and you can see their confidence growing.

Luckily my DP and I have very similar taste in TV, but he does get obsessive. Current fave is Impractical Jokers, which I do find funny in moderation, but he will record them all and watch them every day!

Cycling, cycling, cycling, cricket, more cycling, a bit of rugby, footie. More cycling.

We watch Game of Thrones together. I love Mad Men with a passion and have always been very put out that DH will not join me on the sofa for that one. What's not to like?

Report
MerryMarigold · 01/05/2015 11:46

Amy, STOP IT!

Cheesy, ok maybe cycling and cricket do top even Take Me Out in the mindless stakes. Maybe it's an alternative to sleeping.
