It used to be if someone wanted something they worked hard for it to get it. Now people rather than working just look and moan at what others have and blame others for their shortcomings. The amount of anger I get thrown at me sometimes for being a professional buy to let landlord and born in the post war boom is disgusting.

I'm envious that my parents, born in the late 50's, could afford a house in their early twenties. That they graduated nursing school and medical school with no debt. That they've just sold their house and bought a second, mortgage free, for nearly 300k with the proceedings. When I was younger, we had 3-4 foreign holidays a year and I went to private school.

I'm 26, living with DP and renting from a private landlord. We'll never be able to afford a house even though we both work full-time. I left uni with 9k of debt which is now nearly £13k thanks to interest. Our DC will be state-educated (nothing wrong with that ofc) but we will struggle massively to afford a foreign holiday. We had to save for a couple of months just to get DP's passport renewed Sad

My DH and I were born in the early 1950's. We had public sector jobs and have public sector pensions. We both worked very hard and also did voluntary work. Now we are both retired and want to help our DCs to move a few steps further on the ladder that seemed to stretch effortlessly and encouragingly above us. Jealously and envy are natural in today's economic and political climate and I hope my generation have the grace to accept this and do their best to ensure their grandchildren have a better, fairer start in life.
