To think any flavour of jam apart from srawberry or raspberry is just nasty?

DH keeps trying to persuade me to try some peach and ginger jam a friend gave him. It looks brown and nasty and smells like something rotted in it.
My mum swears by fig, plum and apple jam. It looks like someone else ate it first and nothing will tempt me to try.
In fact any jam I have tried that isn't strawberry or raspberry has just tasted bad and been a bitter disappointment.

Damson is the prince of jams

Allalonenow · 25/04/2015 19:55

I like apricot best, I buy the La Vieja Fabrica brand, also Bonne Maman blueberry is very tasty. Though nothing beats home made really.

fluffymouse · 25/04/2015 19:57

Fig is yum especially bonne maman

PourMeSomethingStronger · 25/04/2015 19:58

I agree LittleIda, Nothing beats a victoria sponge sandwiched with cream and homemade damson jam. Pure heaven.

notsmartenough · 25/04/2015 19:58

I love apricot jam - reminds me of my very first 'continental' breakfast. Warm crusty roll, curls of butter, apricot jam and creamy coffee.

Pineapple is nice, and bramble jelly too (with peanut butter sometimes).

Lemon curd is delicious on shortbread.

I make my own jam, there's a grove of mirabelle trees near me and my confiture de mirabelle won first prize at the village show last year. YAthereforeBVVU.

Welshmaenad · 25/04/2015 20:01

Also, I made papaya, lime and passion fruit jam last year and very nearly cried when I used the last of it.

FryOneFatManic · 25/04/2015 20:03

I once made a fantastic tasting wild cherry jam. It had an interesting sherbet like taste, but I was never able to make more of the jam as those particular plants were ripped up long ago.

I make a redcurrant jelly that DS loves on toast. I have a drawer full of redcurrants in the freezer, so I need to make room by making more jelly. Grin

Another vote for Bonne Maman Cherry or Blackcurrent jam. On butter. On a warm, crisp and soft croissant. With a it mug of coffee.

Or Rhubard and Ginger on butter on wholegrain toast. With a mug of tea.

Bloody delicious.

mateysmum · 25/04/2015 20:05

70 is your mum fromLancashire or Yorkshire? We used to call lemon curd lemon cheese and apples or fruitcake with lancashire cheese is a well known local delicacy.

Bluestocking · 25/04/2015 20:07

Mirabelle jam is divine! I'm jealous of your neighbours, Welshmaenad.
In the dark days before I gave up sugar, I had a weakness for Bonne Maman apricot on granary. And I did love toast and marmalade.

KaputKiss · 25/04/2015 20:08

I completely agree with you op.

MillionToOneChances · 25/04/2015 20:08

Bonne Maman Blackcurrant jelly or you haven't lived.

HarrietSchulenberg · 25/04/2015 20:11

If you only like factory made strawberry and raspberry jam then you ABVVVU as they are syrupy gloop. Home made jams are waaay better and are piss easy to make.

My fave is my rhubarb and vanilla, hotly followed by rhubarb and ginger.

My plum's not bad and my strawberry is amazing when it's made with British strawberries in season but still OK when it's made with imported ones. Raspberry too, but my dcs grumble about the pips.

You can't sneer at other flavours unless you've actually tried them.

PerspicaciaTick · 25/04/2015 20:12

The only bought strawberry jam I like is Tiptree's Little Scarlet. But at £4 a jat it is a rare treat.
Blackcurrant is yummy. Homemade raspberry as made by my grannie is delicious. Gooseberry is good. I like cherry. Plum or greengage is lovely on soda bread.
But I'm not keen on unlikely marriages.

Phoenix0x0 · 25/04/2015 20:13

Blackcurrant, morello cherry and raspberry are the best!

OTheHugeManatee · 25/04/2015 20:14

YABU OP. You've never tried my damson jelly Grin

SwirlyThingAlert · 25/04/2015 20:23

Blackcurrant or plum jam is delicious.

possumbird · 25/04/2015 20:24

Blackcurrant is lovely with a bit of sharpness.
Bonne Maman Blueberry is lush

aoife24 · 25/04/2015 20:26

Yes, blackberry, apricot and gooseberry are lovely.

TelephoneIgnoringMachine · 25/04/2015 20:27

Blackcurrant, morello cherry, raspbrrry, apple & lavender, blueberry, Victoria/Mirabelle plum. All yum.

I made quince jelly once. I was rather pleased with that one. And autumn hedgerow jam is delicious. Mainly blackberries & crab apples, some hawthorn berries.

I rather fancy trying fig jam now...

MagelanicClouds · 25/04/2015 20:28

The last time I made a proper fruitcake I stuck the marzipan on with honey. Nobody noticed.
Really trying to understand what's so good about rhubarb. You need to cook it with so much sugar to even make it remotely edible and it still makes me gag.

Yes to this ^

Jam is so easy to make. I really think it tastes nicer than the over-sweet bought ones. Bonne Maman tend to be good though.

pressone · 25/04/2015 20:35

Hate strawberry jam, tried all sorts including my own that everyone else loves, don't like any of them (but them I don't like strawberry ice-cream, strawberry jelly, strawberry milkshake in fact strawberry anything - although I love strawberries).
Apricot jam is the only thing to have with croissants.

Blackberry jam confusingly called bramble jam is my favourite, especially proper French mûre jam.
