to think the fast 7 movie is really arrogant and distasteful

Saw this last night, not my choice I add, and although it is very tragic that someone died and left behind a family. They were in a car that from what I understand was doing double the speed limit on a public road. The movie shows all these complex stunts that are pure fantasy and that's good for escapism but in real life you can just die instantly by speeding and hitting a lampost. The song has just come on the radio about "see you again" and quite frankly no you wont see anyone again, driving at high speed and crashing can kill you instantly. Maybe I'm skwed though as lost a friend last year in a motorbike accident and quite sensitive to this, more than I thought I'd be.

Just stopping by to hand you a 'Grip'Hmm

PureMorning · 24/04/2015 11:23

Did you not know what the film was about?

OfaFrenchMind · 24/04/2015 11:27

It's Fast and Furious, not Moderate and Sensible....

Misslgl88 · 24/04/2015 11:28

Total off topic but I sobbed at the end Sad

Oliversmumsarmy · 24/04/2015 11:29

Driving a car through a window of one tower block and expecting to land through the window of another can also kill you if you miss.

I have also lost more than my fair share of dfs to car and motorbike accidents including dp's bf 6 weeks after he was married.

Car accident down the road last year was some one in a "super car" doing 140mph on a 30mph country lane. It wasn't the speed that killed him but the fact he was not wearing a seat belt. His passenger walked away virtually unscathed whilst he was flung from the car

TaliZorahVasNormandy · 24/04/2015 11:29

Paul Walkers family were happy with the way the did the film. If they are happy with it, I wont judge.

FuckingLiability · 24/04/2015 11:30

I thought it was great. Love the fast cars, stunts and not at all like real life because it's a film action.

DinkyDye · 24/04/2015 11:32

what, more arrogant and distasteful than the other previous 6 Confused

In future, probably best to only bother going to see films you may have some interest in seeing.

twojobsjane · 24/04/2015 11:45

I'm not expressing how I feel well, I just didn't enjoy it. Totally tainted by someone being killed by dangerous driving.

OP posts:
OfaFrenchMind · 24/04/2015 11:54

War movies are distasteful, as so many people died in war.
Heist movies are distasteful, as security guards and bystanders have been known to be killed by thieves.
Love movies are distasteful, as many people have been killed by their loved ones, or are alone after separations or divorces...
....

You knew what it was about, I am surprised you went anyway...

Proudmummy2456 · 24/04/2015 11:56

Don't watch it again then?!

GraysAnalogy · 24/04/2015 11:59

OP perhaps watching action and drama films aren't to your taste. The whole point is that they display fantasy, things we couldn't do in RL.

The cast in the film damn well know just what dangerous driving does as they lost Paul Walker.

I think this thread is more distasteful to be honest.

Idontseeanydragons · 24/04/2015 12:08

I think considering that Paul Walkers 2 brothers were cast as stand ins for him after his death proves that the family were completely ok with the film carrying on.
The films aren't my cup of tea and I've not seen any of them so can't comment on the storylines but they're obviously popular and apparently another one is on it's way.
It reminds me of The Crow - Brandon Lee died on set doing a stunt that was reshot with a stand in and kept in the film.

plannedshock · 24/04/2015 12:17

Moderate and sensible ????

DonkeysDontRideBicycles · 24/04/2015 12:27

I haven't watched the series but gather it moved on from illegal street racing to ever more fantastic feats so isn't the target audience 12 - 18 year olds? Although the cast seem quite a lot older.

Sorry about your friend.

BolshierAyraStark · 24/04/2015 12:29

Who gives a shit, Jason Statham & Vin Diesel in the same film? Don't mind if I do... Grin

Seriously though, it's a film-get over it.

OurGlass · 24/04/2015 12:39

Frenchmaid Grin

twojobsjane · 24/04/2015 12:42

Well I'm not talking about his family finding it distasteful, I'm talking about me. His family do stand to make 10s of millions from it.

Well yes it probably isn't for me, will insist he doesn't pick such unsuitable films for date night.

Not sure it is for teenagers, thought it was for middle aged men seeing as the male cast look not far away from 50. Obviously all the women are a lot younger.

OP posts:
googoodolly · 24/04/2015 12:47

Haha, moderate and sensible Grin

The whole series is like that. When I went , two weeks after it came out, the cinema was sold out for every showing that weekend, and there were people of all ages there - teens, twenties, elderly people. The clue is kind of in the name, anyway.

MajesticWhine · 24/04/2015 12:49

DH went with DD1. They loved it. I wouldn't go near it.
Anyway, YAB a bit U, but sorry for your loss.

TheFlis12345 · 24/04/2015 12:50

To quote Paul Walker himself, “If one day the speed kills me, don't cry. Because I was smiling.”

Idontseeanydragons · 24/04/2015 12:51

DS loves them (he's 14). He has 2&5 on DVD and keeps mithering me to watch one. I'll see how bored I am this weekend Grin

AuntyMag10 · 24/04/2015 12:55

This movie has raving reviews and had such a moving message. You must be the only person who thinks it's 'arrogant'Hmm here, have a grip.

Oliversmumsarmy · 24/04/2015 13:24

Went to see it with my 15 year old dd. I am mid 50s, dh and son stayed in. Spent most of the film giggling at the stunts.

Will you not be watching any Robin Williams films because someone killed themselves or anything in that has a person who has since died?

TruJay · 24/04/2015 13:35

DH and I have grown up with the franchise and love it! It's not everyone's cup of tea but neither are all films. Everyone has different tastes.
We were gutted when Paul walker passed away and the ending of Fast7 was perfect and a very fitting tribute to Paul. I bloody love the song 'see you again'

misslgl88 we sobbed too
