In thinking the garden centre should be more bothered and take the spidery yucca away?

End of March, OH bought me a lovely yucca to replace the one she had killed after 8yrs (RIP first yucca).
Last weekend, she noticed a huuuuuuge web in its leaves (think beautifully constructed trampoline).
In said web were hundreds of bright yellow spiders. Plant now outside and bin bagged.
She consulted Google Bellamy (she is far braver than me) and thinks they might be baby garden spiders but, of course, they might not be.
The centre delivers plants to our area, so I thought they might want to pick it up and investigate.
First call to garden centre, she was told 'just pop it in the car, bring it in and if you have proof of purchase, we will refund'. Slightly MN incredulous (I daresay I said 'I think not!), I got on the blower the next day.
I was told the 'plant manager' would call back.
Still waiting.
Will phone the manager manager today, but just want to check I am not being unreasonable.
Despite my loathing of our eight-legged friends, I feel slightly guilty they may have died in the bin bag. Alternatively, a tropical spider species has been unleashed.
AIBU to insist they pick up the plant when I call later?

I lived in the Middle East and the camel spiders are verrry real Wink My cat caught one and left it scurrying on the doorstep, lovely!

OP you definitely sound unhinged. Grin

Here is a pic to prove it as I know you all really want to see it!

Honestly, if I was as stressed as you I would just throw the whole bin bag, plant, pot and all into the black bin and move the bin away from my house

Oh I don't like camel spiders. It takes forever to get all the hairs off their legs, and if you miss any, they get stuck between your teeth. Tasty though.

The question to have asked was: are the Yucca plants imported or propagated here? If imported, THEN ask about potential evil immigrant spiders.

But I suspect this is a native-born yucca, as they are easier to grow from cuttings than from seed. So spider is most likely also native and even from your own house or garden.

They won't be tropical spiders. They will be garden spiders. Poke the little yellow bunch and they gently bloom outwards like a soft explosion, then regroup in a little clot. Cute.
Even if it had somehow been a dangerous import, it would have been unlikely to thrive in the UK's generally non tropical weather.

On an unrelated note, I used to work in a plant nursery and we imported plug plants, chilled, from Israel. One delivery I opened a box and discovered the plants were covered in blood. Because it had been chilled it was all still red and fresh. Niiice.

Apparently the camel spiders come running towards you at 10 miles an hour, but they really want to stand in your shadow to keep cool!
